I see a lot of good info about the CP on here, but none of it has ever mentioned computer science (as far as I'm aware). Does anyone have experience being a computer science major doing the CP or knows someone who was a CS major?

The info I'm looking for is: what kind of options are available for me in the CP and how would it pertain to my future in computer science? Are there engineering based tracks in the CP that would pave ways for me to start in the CP and eventually, 20 years down the road (hehe) allow me to be an Imagineer or something?

Thanks in advance for an insight. I'm really interested in working for Disney as it relates to computers/technology/engineering but am just curious if the CP is a step in the right direction for me. Thanks again!!!

It doesn't really matter what your major is if you want to do a CP. If you do the CP, you are pretty much going to either be working in one of the Disney parks or at one of the Disney resorts doing a role of your choosing such as merchandising, fast food service, attractions, recreation, life guard etc. If you want to do something that deals with your major, you would have to try for a Professional Internship (PI), which are much more difficult to get. Usually you have to do a CP before they will accept you into the PI, but it's not always the case. It helps, though. I am currently doing the merchandising CP (being a Fine Arts - Electronic Media major, it has nothing to do with what I want to do in the future) and hoping to get a PI that DOES deal with my major for the Spring 2010 term. The CP is a good experience and it really could help you get to something that deals with your Computer Science major. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

look at the professional internship listings off of disneyinterns.com. they usually have some IT related.

Thanks for the input. I don't know if I'm allowed to ask this (sorry, I'm new), but how competitive is the pay doing a CP? I'm not looking for numbers exactly, but I have a regular job and I'm wondering if it would be a smart move to leave my job to do a CP if it has nothing to do with my major. :confused3

someone wrote a blog that broke down the pay really well, i'm sure someone else will link you to it

but basically you dont get paid much. especially after rent and everything
if you're doing it for the money, its definitely not worth it from what i have read

You DEFINITELY do it for the "experience", not the money. The pay is crap compared to everything that you have to deal with.
