We will be staying at Shades of Green, since we are military fam, I'm wondering if they have ddp has an option to add on to our reservations. I haven't seen anything on the website..but it is listed as a Disney resort. Does anyone know about this?

No, the Disney Dining Plan is not available to Shades of Green guests as they are not considered Disney Resort Guests for purposes of that plan.

Even though Shades is ON Disney property, it is not considered an official Disney Resort since it is not owned and operated by Disney. Any resort perks (such as EMH) are negotiated by contract between Disney and the government branch that operates Shades.

Considering the very low cost of Shades rooms, you still are coming out ahead in the cost department even buying food out-of-pocket instead of through the Dining Plan.

Well...considering we have to get the family suite which costs $275 a night..not sure if we would be better off staying at a value resort in 2 rooms and getting the ddp with it. Really confused!

I would crunch those numbers for sure...are you going during a Free Dining promotion? Even if you're going during no Free Dining, you could easily get two Value rooms for less than $275 a night - save you at least $50 a night, seems like. That'd pay for at least one person's dining plan all by itself.

While $275/night would most likely be more than two value rooms, it IS a significant discount off of what a comparable room at a Disney Deluxe would cost...and with the size of the Shades of Green rooms that's really what you have to compare it to.

We stayed at Shades last summer in the regular two-bedded rooms...two queens, tons of floor space, the table and chairs, the sofa...the nightly rate was only $111 (and that was the max rate they charge as my Dad's final rank grade falls in the top category; he was our sponsor).

A similar room at one of the Deluxe resorts would have easily topped $300-350.
