Good food is like music you can taste, color you can smell. There is excellence all around you. You need only to be aware to stop and savor it – Gusteau (Rattatouille)
Hello to all my Dis friends!
Welcome to my dining review. If you haven’t had a chance, you might bounce over and read “Parks? What Parks?...” (Link in my signature) It was my first attempt at a dining review and has tons of pics and reviews in it!
On to this year’s trip!
Your group of hosts (eaters) this trip will be:
Janis, Me – AKA Ms. Heimlich – I am 34 and like many of you, a lover of all things Disney. I especially like the Muppets and the newer Pixar movies like Bugs Life & Ratatouille. My day job is as an entomologist for a large pest management company. I am a fairly open minded eater but will NOT eat peaches and I prefer not to eat mushrooms.

I have no comment or caption for this picture....
Thomas, DH – He is 38 and tolerates my love of Disney. He has, however, been brought to the dark side by my cunning and smarts (ok… by the food!!). He is patient and appreciates all the time I spend researching food… err I mean our vacations! By day he works for our state DOT. He is also a very open minded eater. He loves just about everything but won’t eat beef liver.

Yummy! Chocolate Gingerbread Woman!
Faith, DD – She is 16. I could just leave it at that… but I will also say she loves the princess movies, with a tie between Belle and Ariel as her favorites. She will be a Junior in high school in the fall. She is a VERY adventurous eater and amazes me with her food selections on a regular basis. She loves fruit, tomatoes, and just about all veggie type foods. She is not a big fan of shrimp.

Our first culinary experience is at the Airport… Okay, maybe culinary experience might be a little strong, but it was food, and part of our vacation so I felt obliged to include it in this review.
We ate at the Waterloo Ice House. An Austin, Texas based restaurant begun in 1976, Waterloo Ice House is named after the original settlement where Austin now stands.
Unfortunately, their food tastes like it was made in 1976. It was warm and moderately edible. It kept us from gnawing our arms off while we waited and waited for our plane (which was delayed over an hour…).

2 Orders of fries (an extra one for the three of us to share) with a side of (nasty) ranch dressing.

Obviously, I don’t recommend the Waterloo Ice House at the Austin, Texas airport.
Bring your own food to the airport. :rolleyes1

We've eaten at the "real" Waterloo and found it good. Well passable! This was not. Oh, well.... next time I will bring my own or try something new!
I've got one more ready!

On to our first Disney food!! Yipee!
We arrived on Disney property about 8:00 and had made previous plans to eat at DTD. We stowed our many bags in the room and headed out.
Uh. Oh. DTD was a MAD HOUSE. :scared1:There were people EVERYWHERE and parking was scarce. I didn't even think about the fact that it was Friday night and DTD might be busy... We finally nabbed a spot (way in the boonies) and headed in to Earl of Sandwich!
The line was L O N G. We waited. Since we had not started our Dining plan yet, we paid out of pocket.

Thomas had The Original. Roast Beef, Cheddar Cheese & Creamy Horseradish Sauce on the lovely EOS bread.
http://inlinethumb15.webshots.com/44494/2154889780102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2154889780102416801fYFeuC)
Faith and I both had the All American - Roasted Turkey, Buttermilk Ranch, Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce & Tomato on the YUMMO EOS bread. The sandwich is supposed to come with cranberries…. We 86’d the cranberries. I mean I love cranberries, but with ranch dressing??? I don’t think so…
http://inlinethumb64.webshots.com/45247/2598685540102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2598685540102416801bVlefI)
We also got a bag of chips and a chocolate chip cookie.
http://inlinethumb47.webshots.com/43950/2285703340102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2285703340102416801GpDjbM)
Thomas wasn’t too crazy about his sandwich. He thought there was WAY too much of the creamy sauce on it. It wasn’t very horseradish-y either. There was no heat or zip, only glopped on creamy sauce. The roast beef was tasty though.
Faith and I LOVED our sandwiches. Thomas tried some of mine and agreed we had won this particular ordering match. The bread is wonderful (have I mentioned that here yet?) and the turkey, cheese, and ranch dressing were perfectly warmed through. The tomato was ripe the lettuce was still crisp. They went so well with the other ingredients… I loved this sandwich.
The cookie was large. Huge actually. It was soft and gooey... maybe a little on the greasy side, but the three of us polished it off in short order. I love the kettle cooked style potato chips. They are crispy and thicker than regular chips. I can feel my butt getting bigger when I eat them, but MAN they taste good!
All in all it was a memorable visit to DTD and EOS. I love their sandwiches and we managed one more visit here! We skedaddled out of DTD because it was SOOOOO crowded and we were beat. We also knew we had to get up and at ‘em early to get checked in to our real resort and make it to rope drop at MK.

I didn't mean Waterloo at the Airport!
I love Waterloo on Lamar @ 5th (or 6th?) - easy for families (we go with my brother, SIL, and niece) good quality - not fabulous, but consistent, easy and good - at the airport I ALWAYS go for Salt Lick, just 'cause I didn't have to drive to Dripping Springs to have it!
Now that that is cleared up -

Breakfast this morning found us at the Polynesian. We checked in to the Fort Wilderness Cabins (no, our room was not ready), got our Keys to the Kingdom and headed toward MK. We were hungry so we decided to run by the Poly to eat since it is so close to MK and parking.
None of us were starving so we decided to split a CS meal and a couple other things. We got the Adult Breakfast Platter which includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, and biscuit. Our CS credit also allowed 2 beverages, so we got 2 waters. We also opted to pay OOP for a pineapple bowl ($3.99) and a blueberry muffin ($2.59).
As an aside, I like the self serve kiosks that the Poly and Contemporary Resort have put in for their CS options. It really makes ordering easy! My only complaint is, it is nearly impossible to make substitutions or deletions with the new system.... but since I RARELY do that, it really is no problem for us.
http://inlinethumb56.webshots.com/45879/2749960960102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2749960960102416801izTUbG)
I did get (MUCH) better at taking food pics as the trip went on so don't judge me on this one... it is sucky.
The platter was bountiful and the food was warm and fresh. I like the scrambled eggs, but since Faith likes hers nearly to the point of "Rubber" she wasn't thrilled. She snarfed down the sausage and Thomas and she (almost by themselves) put away the fruit. I think I got 2 pieces of pineapple, but since I think I may be mildly allergic to it, it is probably for the best... The muffin was HUMONGOUS! We split it 3 ways and it was STILL a LOT of blueberry muffin. I believe we could've used a snack credit for this monstrosity, but for whatever reason at the time, paid cash for it.
We were very happy with this meal and walked into the MK very satisfied and ready for a fun filled day.
Used: 1 CS Coupon (Total used:$6.59 + $2.50 + $2.50 for the platter and 2 waters)
Cash out of pocket: $7.01

Faith just loves these. Thomas, Faith and I all shared it. It certainly is refreshing and I just love it when the soft serve starts to melt into the pineapple juice making a creamy kind of slurry you can suck through the straw. Again, I didn’t have a bunch of this because of my reaction to pineapple (in case you are wondering… if I eat too much I get BAD canker sores in my mouth which is NOT fun!). What I had of it was good though!!
We left the parks early (really before lunch time) to get our room organized and we had planned to make a quick trip to Walmart before our 5:00 reservation at Tutto Italia.
We drove over to the Cabins at Fort Wilderness and got our room number. We got there and found our cabin. Cute.
Lunch today was a fiasco.
I called the front desk to get them to deliver our bags and Faith jumped in the shower. Our plan was for her to shower, get dressed, and then we would make a run to Wal-Mart. Well, Faith showered, got out and waited in a towel. She dried her hair. I took pictures. We waited. An hour later, still no bags. We were also all getting hungry, too. Another 30 minutes goes by. I finally asked Thomas to find us some food. He walked to the Meadows Snack Bar and brought back a pepperoni pizza and a bottle of water.
Sorry, no picture. I was upset at this point. :headache:
I called MULTIPLE times to the front desk. I even said I would come get them and they kept promising they were on the way.
Finally TWO HOURS later, we get our bags. Faith gets dressed. We decided there is no way we have time for a Wal-Mart run so we cleaned up and headed out to Epcot for dinner.
As for the pizza??? Meh. It was not very good, but “hunger is the best sauce” so it went down with out complaint. Would I get it again? No. I am just not a “Disney” pizza lover. But without it, all of us would have been even MORE cranky!
Up next…. Tutto Italia in Epcot!
Oh, and for the bean counters of the group... We used a snack credit for the Dole Whip Float - $3.99. Thomas paid OOP for the pizza & water. I have no idea how much... no reciept. Sorry.

Thanks... Honestly it wasn't planned, but I had these three pics of us eating and it seemed... right for this review. :rotfl2:
I will add one more picture of us... One that is a little more flattering than those first ones! ;)
Enjoy!

I'm here but can't see pictures because Webshots is a blocked site here at work. That's why I'm a Photobucket kind o' girl. ;)
I'm enjoying the reviews, though. I got worked up over your luggage situation just reading about it! After 45 minutes, I would have said that I was coming to retrieve my bag. There's no excuse for it to take longer than that.

We got to Epcot and made our way back to Tutto Italia. We were a tad early so we browsed a bit around Italy then checked in. A large family was taking up the seating so we stood for a bit then when they were seated, lots of places to sit opened up.

We were seated in the area outside the main dining room, like a patio.

Once we were seated, our server “Cassa” according to the receipt, arrived. We placed our drink orders and pondered the menu.
The assistant server (a guy who’s name I never got) delivered our bread basket and dipping oil.

On to our entrees…
I had the Cannelloni “Al Forno”. Baked cannelonni pasta, spinach, ricotta, bechamel, parmesan cheese $24.00

Thomas got the Filetto Di Pesce In "Cartoccio" - Halibut filet, tomatoes, olives, capers, and vegetables baked in parchment paper. $34.00

This is what it looked like once you got the parchment open.
Faith had the Tortelli Di Vitello Al "Chianti" - Veal and chianti ravioli, parmesan cheese, sage butter, roasted tomato
http://inlinethumb37.webshots.com/26084/2361271000102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2361271000102416801HRJWBU)
I loved the little plate of antipasto (except for the mushrooms... don't eat those). The artichoke heart was yummy as was the ricotta-herby spread in the little dish. Faith didn't care for the pickle (and she is a pickle-aholic) so it must have been pretty yucky. I don't eat the little cucumbers soaked in evil unless they are between a bun and a beef patty. Thomas (the little fiend) ate ALL of the olives... (he didn't even save me ONE, so I ate the whole artichoke without a bit of guilt) so I can't report on those except to say they DO have pits in them still.
I have to say one other thing before I get to the entrees... Why does the bread have to come out cold? I really wish it was warm, room temperature or at least not freezing cold. I mean, it wasn't FROZEN, but it was very cold. I think it would have been a lot more appetizing other wise...
On to the entrees!!
Wow. My entrée was RICH. In my “real” life I rarely eat pasta, much less pasta stuffed full of cheese and then covered in more cheese. (If I did, I could be Ursula in Spectromagic without the aid of a costume…) So anyway… This dish was divine. I was what I wanted at that particular moment. If I was to order RIGHT now, I am not sure I would order the same thing, but this was REALLY excellent. It came with 2 filled tubes, and I only managed to hork down one. The other one was shared with Thomas, and Faith, and I may have had one or two more bites.
Thomas’ fish was a huge portion of fish. Thomas ate on it, he shared some with Faith, and then he and I traded entrees and I ate a bit of it. The fish was well seasoned and flavorful and not over or undercooked. The veggies were good and it wasn’t oily at all. I would definitely order this dish again, especially if I wanted something a little on the lighter side. He was looking for a light dish, so this was perfect.
Faith ordered the Tortelli because she didn’t recognize some of the ingredients. That is how she took to ordering after a while, whatever she didn’t know or recognize, she ordered. (In this case, she didn’t know what veal was… we told her later – after dinner – and she was a little shocked.) She really enjoyed this dish anyway (and hey… so did I – and I knew what veal is!) . The portion was reasonable, the filling was flavorful, and the tomato sauce they use is soooooooo good! I think it alone on pasta would be good… and I don’t even like plain pasta with tomato sauce!!
Desserts coming up soon….

On with the Food Porn!
Dessert and drinks at Tutto Italia!
Dessert was interesting at the Heimlich table here. We each ordered a dessert, but only one of us had the dessert we started with once it was all said and done. Let me elaborate.
I ordered the Gianduja-Torta Al Cioccolato - chocolate and hazelnut torte with whipped cream, and raspberry sauce - $10
http://inlinethumb18.webshots.com/28625/2361402900102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2361402900102416801lakqsA)

Faith ordered the Coppetta Sottobosco - berries, zabaglione cream gelato, and chocolate sauce - $14
http://inlinethumb34.webshots.com/45601/2542204470102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2542204470102416801HxrmAU)

Thomas got the Bugie/Chiacchiere – Tutto Italia’s signature dessert. Anise and sambucca-flavored crisp pastry with chocolate and apricot sauces - $10
http://inlinethumb57.webshots.com/42616/2384413630102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2384413630102416801XFKcKb) http://inlinethumb06.webshots.com/2565/2379721370102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2379721370102416801VpBMkR)
Then I ordered some hot tea and Thomas ordered an espresso.
http://inlinethumb51.webshots.com/42290/2846010930102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2846010930102416801hdWkbl)

I thought I was in the mood for chocolate. It sounded really good. It looked really good. It tasted really good. It just didn’t do it for me right then. :confused3 Faith loves berries (Remember what I said about fruit & veggies?) and ice cream. That dessert should’ve been right up her alley. She loved it but again, it just wasn’t floating her boat. I asked her if she wanted some of my torte. I took a bite of her Sottobosco. We promptly traded. I finished hers and she finished mine. All was right with the world. :goodvibes
I stole the chocolate straw off my dessert and she ate the biggest blackberries out of hers, so it was a fair trade, I think.
Thomas was very happy with his dessert. I can “hear” many of you thinking… What’s the big deal? Fried dough strips with some sauce… What gives? First let me say that he was looking for a light dessert. He’s not much of a sweets eater, though he appreciates good desserts. This dessert is so much tastier than it looks. The apricot dipping sauce kicked the chocolate one’s butt! It was very flavorful! The sugar dusting on the pastry is not powdered sugar and it is not granulated sugar. It is somewhere in between those grain sizes. It was different and I feel like he ordered a very unique and memorable dessert.
The hot tea was… hot tea. (I will explain more in a minute why I wanted hot tea in the middle of August in Florida momentarily.) They brought a little pot of hot water, a decent selection of tea and some milk. My only complaints were 1) no sweetener was served with the tea – I had to ask a neighboring table for some and 2) it should’ve been my drink on the DDP and I ended up having to pay cash for it. By the time I noticed #2, we were already out of there and it wasn’t worth the $4 to have to do the whole thing over again.
Thomas’ espresso was good and strong. It was served with a little biscotti that was very good (he let me have a taste). I’m not sure he would order this again… I think he was hoping for something a little better this being an Italian joint.
Ok – onto my overall impressions of Tutto. First, it was FREEZING in there. :cold: Both Faith & I were wearing sun dresses and flip flops. We were both freezing our rear ends off!! I am not sure if it is because we were in the little area to the left (as you are entering the place) or if they keep the place that cold so people don’t linger but we sure didn’t hang around!
Second, I was a bit disappointed in the feel of the place. All the pictures I saw and the menu prices pointed to a little finer dining than I feel like we got. For example, the table was covered with white PAPER over the tablecloth. Like at our local BBQ joint. White butcher paper. I felt this was very out of place for the kind of restaurant they are touting Tutto to be. Another example is the feeling of being rushed. I felt the whole time that we were being shooed out of there. Like “are you done yet?” I think it may have something to do with the fact that our waitress seemed a little hurried, but it was a definite impression we all got.
Would we go back??
The answer is yes. The food was good, the location is awesome, and overall I really liked it.
On to the Bean Counter portion of the show:
This meal was $154.96 if we had paid cash. We used 3 TS credits.
Our out of pocket items were: My Cosmo ($12), Espresso ($3.50), Chianti ($7), and Tea ($4) for a total of $28.23 after tax. The suggested tip amounts were $26.19 and $29.10.

Your three desserts...boy we had them all...the one your hubby had...DH loved it too....the one your daughter had I tried as well and it was great..but the one you had originally ordered...ooh baby I loved that one!
I agree about the atmosphere...for the price I would expect the setting to be posh-ier.

This is probably my favorite quick service meal (if you can call it that with their long lines) in Disney. I always look forward to an arrival or departure meal here.
We got to Epcot and made our way back to Tutto Italia.
On to our entrees…
I had the Cannelloni “Al Forno”. Baked cannelonni pasta, spinach, ricotta, bechamel, parmesan cheese $24.00

Tutto looks quite tasty ... my problem as always is with their pricing, which is why we've never dined there. $16 for a salad ??? :scared1: I know if you're on the dining plan it makes more sense but since we don't use that and since we have so many great Italian places here in Stinktown we always bypass Italy when in Epcot.
However ... we do have a F&W pairing there in October so I am looking forward to trying their cuisine in a different kind of setting and your review definitely has me excited about our choice. :thumbsup2

I don’t think so…
You should really try the sandwich with the cranberries. They add a lot to the flavor.

How have I missed this!?!?!? I absolutely love your last review and am SO in with this one!
Your family photos are outstanding - I remember your beautiful photos from your V&A reviews and they make the new ones even funnier!
Looking forward to the rest and scampering off (what is a scamper anyway? I must be tired....) to read your 2006 TR.
Oh - and off topic, but how did you like the cabins? DH is dying to stay in one but I'm afraid it may feel a little too secluded and non Disney...what did you think??

I'm glad you liked Tutto. I think it's the best Italian on property.
It certainly wasn't bad! I think we will be back.
Your three desserts...boy we had them all...the one your hubby had...DH loved it too....the one your daughter had I tried as well and it was great..but the one you had originally ordered...ooh baby I loved that one!
I agree about the atmosphere...for the price I would expect the setting to be posh-ier.
I am glad I am not the only one who feels that way... I was afraid I was being a little...:snooty:
All three of those desserts ARE fantastic. I just wasn't feeling the torte that night... It was all me and none of the dessert!
This is probably my favorite quick service meal (if you can call it that with their long lines) in Disney. I always look forward to an arrival or departure meal here.
I'm salivating over all of the entrees. The halibut looks especially good. Now I'm wondering if leaving Tutto off of our dining repertoire this coming trip was a wise idea.
EOS will always be near & dear to my heart! The halibut WAS great. It is SOOO hard to hit all the places we want to isn't it??? There are way too many great choices! I am sure (even without Tutto) your dining adventures will be GREAT!!!
my first official subscribing to a foodie trip report (no pressure)..hehehehe
I'll be there in a month and my first trip on the Dining plan. So, i'm looking for the good stuff.
on with the show........:cheer2:
WOW!! WELCOME! There is LOTS more to come! I hope I can finish this thing before you go!
Yay! Please, ma'am, we want some more!
Mrs. Spratt
Lots more coming up! thanks for sticking with me!
ack- I'm late to this review!
I loved your EOS review, I have still yet to get there and should really get in gear because sandwiches are my favorite food. I'm glad you liked Tutto! It's a shame about it being so cold though, and the Tortelli Di Vitello Al "Chianti" looks sooooo delish.:lovestruc
I have NEVER in my life issued a Tardy! I love sanwiches too! I eat them just about everyday and never get tired of them! YOU MUST TRY THIS DISH. Gold Stars issued all over the place to Faith for ordering it!!! :goodvibes
Great update on Tutto Italia. We can't wait to try it on our December trip. Great pictures.
I think you will love it!
Loving your reviews. I have to say as much as my DH and I LOVE sandwhiches (live on them in the summer) we have yet to visit EOS. I am making it one of the things we HAVE to do this trip. So I can cross it off our Have NOT done yet list.
Most of thier sanwiches are toasted (so therefore warm) but I love 'em. some people are turned off by hot sandwiches. I am not one of them.
Great reviews! Tutto looked especially good, totally different choices than we had two years ago. Your cannelloni looks like cheesy heaven!
Cheese is a gift from heaven.... I am fairly certain of it. :littleangel:
Tutto looks quite tasty ... my problem as always is with their pricing, which is why we've never dined there. $16 for a salad ??? :scared1: I know if you're on the dining plan it makes more sense but since we don't use that and since we have so many great Italian places here in Stinktown we always bypass Italy when in Epcot.
However ... we do have a F&W pairing there in October so I am looking forward to trying their cuisine in a different kind of setting and your review definitely has me excited about our choice. :thumbsup2
Seriously! I don't think I could justify their prices OOP either... I mean Victoria & Alberts is only about $18 per course and they charge that for a SALAD???
One of the reasons I chose this is because we DON'T eat italian food in our real life. It was a treat for us.
I can't wait to hear about the pairing! I am so jealous.
Loving the reviews so far, keep 'em coming! :mickeybar
:thumbsup2 You got it!
Same thoughts here, it looks great; but the pricing keeps us away.
Glad you mostly enjoyed your meal Ms. H :thumbsup2 Can't wait to see what's next! :goodvibes
Lots more, thats for sure! Thanks for dropping by!
You should really try the sandwich with the cranberries. They add a lot to the flavor.
:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
Thanks, but I have this thing about sweet things and meat. I don't eat 'em. EVER. Honeybaked ham? Blech. Maple syrup & bacon/sausage? Barf. Brown sugar glazed chicken? Vomit. I just can't handle it. IF the sandwich didn't have turkey... maybe. It is just a personal hang up of mine. :confused3
I won't pay for Tutto either but that veal tortellini looks awesome.
I also have the Tutto food/wine pairing booked, on September 26. Have done it back when they were Alfredo and it was very good then.
Ok... Now I am double-y jealous.

We wondered around the World Showcase for a bit...
We picked up a couple of snacks as we did.
In Japan we picked up some Gummy candy in all different fruit flavors (sorry no picture).
In the UK we picked up some Turkish Delight.
http://inlinethumb60.webshots.com/45307/2088609220102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2088609220102416801aGFUnp)
The gummy candies from Japan were Yummo. I really liked them.
The Turkish Delight? Meh... I wasn't expecting it to be covered in chocolate. I was expecting regular candy so I guess I am to blame for not liking it... We ate about 1/2 of it and the rest stayed in the cabin fridge the rest of the week only to be thrown away on Saturday morning when we left... :confused3
I guess I wasn't the only one who wasn't crazy about it.
Also.... how can Candy be full of Easter promise??? Does it help you ressurect yourself on the 3rd day after eating it??? I found this statement a little weird...

You know, when I saw the wrapper, I assumed it said "full of Eastern promise" and the N was just cut off ... you know, because Turkey is in the East ...
The chocolate is definitely weird, it doesn't usually have chocolate. It also, as far as I know, has absolutely nothing to do with Easter.

Today’s adventure began with breakfast in our room. Yummy toast! :)
Luckily, lunch was a little more interesting.
We opted for the new Picnic in the Park option at Animal Kingdom.
My turkey focaccia before it was unwrapped:

Thomas’ ham grinder already unwrapped:

Our chosen side, a Fruit Cup:

Faith’s chicken wrap (sorry about the hand in the picture!)

Dessert #3 (apple – this was Faith’s – What can I say??? The kid likes fruit…)
http://inlinethumb10.webshots.com/44361/2512904710102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2512904710102416801cWQzPT)
There are 2 tiers on this plan, one with sandwiches (the less expensive tier) and one with either rotisserie chicken or sliced ham (the more expensive tier). Our meal for three included the three sandwiches, three small bottles of water (not the large ones you get at all the stands), the desserts, and one side (our fruit).
We chose the sandwiches, because, well, I can't imagine eating greasy chicken with my hands outside at AK... eck.
Also, it came with the green re-usable bag – the one with the Mickey Tree on it. Inside the bag were utensils, paper plates, mayo, and mustard. I love the bag… it is so cute!
Other sandwiches offered are: Tuna Pita and a vegetarian wrap. There are many other sides offered: chips, mac ‘n’ cheese, corn, green beans, potato wedges, etc… but none of that tickled my fancy that day. Fruit sounded good – it was soooo hot – so a hot side did not appeal at ALL!! As for the desserts, there were also other choices… rice crispy treats, an orange, and a piece of cornbread (???? Definitely NOT a dessert where I am from….).
My sandwich was excellent. There was a lot of bread, but again, in my normal everyday life, I don’t eat sandwiches like this, so it was quite a splurge! The bread was very flavorful and different than your average Wonderbread. I snarfed it down pretty fast.
Thomas also really liked his grinder. It came on a ciabatta bread that was also very good. Again it was obviously fresh and it was very tasty, too.
I have no idea how Faith liked her wrap or anything about it. It was gone before I knew what happened. I assume it was good. It sure looked good.
What can I say about the desserts? The cookie was pretty standard, but I like standard chocolate chip cookies so I was happy. Thomas’ brownie was VERY rich and he didn’t even put a dent in it, so I helped put away an appropriate serving of it. The apple…. Hmmm… what to say about it? It was crispy, crunchy, sweet and perfect for a snack walking around the HOTHOTHOT Animal Kingdom!
Ordering was very easy – there was NO line when we ordered! The only SNAFU was the CM who took our order charged our room key for the total so we had to wait and wait and wait for another CM to come fix it and apply it to our dining plan. :headache: Moral of the story: Always tell the CM BEFORE you hand over your Key to the World card....
Picking up the food was another story. The pickup location is back by the Safari at a place called Kusafiri coffee shop. It is located back behind all the other stuff over there and a little difficult to find. You almost have to know what you are looking for. :confused3
I love this CS option. While it may not be a great “value” on the DDP, it was tasty, fresh, and a little different. That being said, it is a pretty good value if you are paying OOP. Another great thing about this option… You also have the option of taking your little bag-o-lunch to anywhere in the park to eat it. (HINT: On the way to the Lion King show, there are some great tables in the shade that would be perfect for a picnic!)
Bean Counter Portion:
Total for 3 sandwiches, 3 desserts, 3 small waters, and 1 side: $26.62.
We used 3 CS credits.

We arrived a little early and had a seat in the (very dark) lounge adjacent to the bar and check-in area. I asked Thomas to run over to the bar and grab a couple of drinks. About the time he got back our pager rang, so we carried our drinks to our table… More on the drinks coming up...
We sat down, and Aziz our waiter, greeted us and brought some water and the oh so yummy multi grain bread and salted butter.

She said it was very refreshing, She was glad to get something besides lemonade or a soft drink to drink and loved having this option.
To eat, Faith ordered the Lamb Shank with bulgur wheat- lentil stew and red wine sauce $25.99
http://inlinethumb06.webshots.com/3141/2465388230102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2465388230102416801zlFBMf)
Aziz recommended it highly and she decided to give it a go. She said the lamb was good, but it was a little too much like roast beef. She was looking for and hoping for something a little more exotic and exciting. Not to say it wasn’t enjoyable, it was just wasn’t what she was expecting. (she gets pretty good roast beef at home…) She really liked the bulgar/lentil stuff under the lamb and ate quite a bit of that.
To drink, Thomas had the Passion Fruit Mojito - Bacardi Rum, X-fusion Organic Mango and Passion Fruit Liqueur, Lime, and Fresh Mint topped with Soda Water $8.25
http://inlinethumb50.webshots.com/18033/2864092630102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2864092630102416801FNNvBX)
OMG. Yum. Yum. Yum. Thomas said “If I wasn’t careful, I could hurt myself with this drink. I could’ve easily sucked it down in 30 seconds flat… but at this price I WON’T.” It was very good. I can say the tiny taste I had of this drink was WONDERFUL.
For dinner, Thomas got the Sustainable Fish of the Day with corn and edamame stew served with cilantro chutney $20.99.
http://inlinethumb22.webshots.com/44949/2007448880102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2007448880102416801yeTEUa)
It was tuna the day we were there. It was NOT sushi grade tuna. He ordered it medium rare. It was well prepared, well seasoned, and flavorful. The sides were excellent. He loved the succotash and broth. When he combined the broth, a bite of the veggies and fish it was VERY good. He was looking for a light entrée and wasn’t in the mood for beef (or similar) so this was perfect. He shared a bite with me and I can vouch for the fact that when you combined all the elements on the plate it was scrumdidillyumptious.
To drink I had the Antioxidant Cocktail - Finlandia Wild Berries Vodka, Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur, Bossa Nova Acai Juice with Agave, Aloe Juice, Lychee, and freshly squeezed Lemon Juice $9.25
http://inlinethumb15.webshots.com/44814/2803201150102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2803201150102416801FVfgSK)
The mix of berries and juice was just … Wow. I ended up ordering one more during the meal. I don’t think there was a tremendous amount of alcohol in the drink, but it was tasty and I felt better about killing my liver because of all the good antioxidants I was putting in at the same time. Sort of like having a snickers and a DIET coke. They cancel each other out… Right?
I chose the Grilled Beef Tenderloin - with Cabernet Reduction, Boniato Mash, Locally Sourced Tomatoes, and Slivered Bermuda Onions - 28.99
http://inlinethumb20.webshots.com/43347/2367336270102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2367336270102416801hbkIgt)

Again, I tended to order things I hardly ever eat at home. Beef is certainly on that list. The filet was well seasoned (it might could have used a tad more salt, but I tend to like my meat a little salty….) and cooked well. The surprise stand out of this entrée was the side of tomatoes. They were marinated in some sort of herb infused vinaigrette and had a wonderful They were SOOOO deceiving. You expected to bite into a piece of regular ol’ tomato and WHAM there is a burst of flavor and tang in your mouth. I must have made a face when I first bit into it because both Thomas and Faith assumed it was BAD. On the contrary. WOW. You just couldn’t help but reacting. They were outstanding. As I am typing this, my mouth is watering. No joke. The boniato mash wasgood too, but its kind of like having a Porsche and a Lincoln in the garage. The Lincoln sure is a nice car, but driving the Porsche lights your hair on fire. You’re gonna drive the Porsche until they take away your license. ;-)
(as a side note... Boniato or tropical sweet potato is a member of the morning glory family. Popular in South Florida, especially in the Hispanic community, a substantial acerage is now planted with it in the Miami-Dade County area. Considered a cross between a baking potato and a sweet potato in color and flavor...)
During the meal, I ate about ½ of my meat and Faith ate some of the lamb. She wasn’t thrilled with the lamb so I offered to trade with her. I worked on her lamb and she polished off my tomatoes err…. I mean filet… Before the evening was over, I also traded with Thomas so I got some fish too… It was like musical entrees, but everyone had a seat!
This was also the evening the picture from page 1 was taken of me... c'est la vie!
Dessert... Hopefully will be up tomorrow!

Howdy Everyone! I am so sorry for the delay… You all know how life gets in the way of your disboard time right? Geez.
On with the show!
DESSERT!
When we last left you we had just finished our entrees and finished each others entrees! It was time to contemplate dessert!
First things first… I ordered some hot tea. Yum.

On to the good stuff!
I got the Decadent Flavors - Blueberry Compote with Yogurt Gelato, Lemon Cornbread with Vanilla Panna Cotta, and Chocolate Cake with Salted Caramel Sauce $7.99
http://inlinethumb55.webshots.com/42550/2121356710102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2121356710102416801KWaJen)

The Blueberry compote was warm and cold yumminess of blueberry and vanilla. I really love blueberries and I could have eaten this and eaten this and eaten this, but I was distracted by the….

My favorite thing though was the chocolate cake with salted caramel. I could’ve eaten a whole tray of these things. The caramel was so good and I am pretty sure I used my finger to get the last bit of it out of the little dish!
Thomas ordered the Crisp and Crunchy - Vanilla-braised Pineapple , Almond-Pineapple-Raisin "Baklava," and Zucchini-Carrot Cake with Vanilla Panna Cotta - $7.99
http://inlinethumb06.webshots.com/41221/2885945350102416801S425x425Q85.jpg (http://family.webshots.com/photo/2885945350102416801RKNOUB)

The vanilla pineapple spears were fresh pineapple (maybe braised) in some kind of vanilla sauce. They were still firm and flavorful. They were good but nothing that blew his socks off.

The “baklava” wasn’t. It was morelike an egg roll… it was good but not very sweet. And just kindof there.

The carrot cake was moist and flavorful. I wish there had been a lot more of the icing!
Faith ordered the Freshly Crafted Sorbets - Lemon-Basil Sorbet, Pineapple Sorbet, and Strawberry Sorbet - - $7.99

Overall, I think this was the best dessert. The lemon basil one was SOOOOO good. It was very different from anything I have really ever had. The other two were good, but after the lemon basil one they were kindof boring. I think I would recommend this dessert over all the others.
Overall thoughts on the Wave:
Like many of you, I think the Wave has become one of my favorite TS places at Disney. The food was fresh and the sustainability thing they have going on is also very positive. I didn’t feel the restaurant was “Birkenstock and Granola” because of it… Just good food with a little thought behind it. The tables had real cloth on them, the service was FANTASTIC (GO Aziz) and the restaurant is just beautiful.
I also wanted to mention…. If they bring you a straw, it is a paper (recycled) straw - not plastic. I thought it was really cool.
Bean Counter Portion of the Program:
Todays total was $125.53 after tax.
This total included the antioxidant cocktail at $9.25 as well as our entrees ($28.99, $20.99, and $25.99), 2 hot teas ($2.19 each), and desserts ($7.99 each). Tax was $7.67.
The recommended tip amount on the recipet was $21.21 - 23.57

the only thing wrong with candy corn is that it is not available year round! :rotfl:

Turkish delight is a very popular chocolate bar over here, personally i love them:love:
Having been to turkey last year and eaten the real mccoy, the stuff we get here is pants!!
Frys belongs to cadburys, which is why it is sold in the UK. Hope that makes it clearer.....
There are better choc bars here in the UK - Ill trade you for some Reeces - I love those little cups, v hard to find in the UK!!!:rotfl2:
next time try flakes, or frys mint bars - they are very good.
looking forward to reading the rest of your reviews, EOS is our 1st night stop too!!

I will be trying english candy again... I promise. but absolutely no more turkish delight for me.... I would give it a whirl if i ever get to Turkey tho!!
When winter comes, PM me... I'll send you some Reeces!! I would trade for some of those mint bars. That sounds intriguing!
The sandwiches from your picnic in the park option look great. Good price too. Somehow we always wind up at Pizzafari, not by my choice. The sandwiches sure would be a nice change of pace. Is this something you order on the spot or ahead of time?
ORder ahead of time. there is a ton of information here: http://allears.net/din/akpicnic.htm
I will have to try that! Sweet & salty all together :thumbsup2

I am enjoying this trippie to the fullest!! Can't wait for more!!
Thanks... It was between the ice cream one and the lamb shank and obviously you know which one won!! ;)
I have no shame.
Flakes!!! OMG I love that candy bar. I went nuts when I saw them at Epcot last year. My husband thought I was crazy, but I HAD to have one. It reminds me of the semester in college that I spent in London.
OK... maybeI will request flakes instead of the mind one... This sounds intriguing as well... hmmm.
I'm from the UK and can confirm that it is EasterN!
Great reiews by the way.

I wanted to go into the Magic Kingdom early, see the sights, get the empty main street picture taken and see the Crystal Palace. I have never eaten there and while eating with Pooh never really got me all excited, seeing the inside of the restaurant did...
We arrived at our reservation time, got a pager thingy and waited very briefly for a table. It was early so there wasn't a lot of people about. We met our waiter and headed out to the buffet... Incidentally...
This review will be very little "words" and a whole lot of pics. I find it difficult to review buffets so I just took pics of everything and am going to post them...

Per requests below...
I enjoyed the food, although I admit I didn't eat much. I tried the Puffed french Toast on the kids corner (due to all the excitement on the boards about it...) and found it... meh. A little greasy for my taste (no flames please!!!). The bacon was tasty and I enjoyed the fruit. I filled up with a big bowl of oatmeal (and real butter!!!) so I really didn't have room for much else.
Everything was hot (or cold) accordingly and I only found one thing empty when I went looking for it... tomato slices...
I would definitly go back. I wish the characters were a little more organized. I never saw Tigger. We had to go....

Thanks for the pictures from CP. We never tried CP for Breakfast and can't wait to try it for our Dec trip. We have gone for lunch buffet and we love the selection...hopefully the breakfast will be a good selection and fresh. Thanks again for sharing.

The pictures say what the word could not- YUM. Well, I suppose your words could say that too. Those pictures are great.:goodvibes My first ADR on my upcoming trip (after working 8 days straight and taking a red eye to Florida) is at the Crystal Palace, so I'll just gaze lovingly at the screen and drool on my keyboard for a few minutes.

We enjoyed Crystal Palace (twice) last year for breakfast. It's more enjoyable if you're not waiting on all the characters, because for some reason, this restaurant just cannot get its rotations in order! We waited so long for Piglet the second time (didn't see him at all the first breakfast) that I was ready to put him on the plate with my bacon! Here, piggy piggy piggy... Food was very good, though. Anywhere with all you can eat bacon is a good place. :thumbsup2

For Lunch the next day, we decided to hit the Tangerine Café.

We were all hungry so we ordered 2 platters here.
We had the Shawarma Platter and the Mediterranean Slider Combo - both were $13.95. We got 2 drinks and 2 orders of baklava as our desserts (no other choice here).

I have to say, I loved this CS meal. The food was good and it was plentiful.
On the platter, the chicken was moist and flavorful, and strangely enough, the lamb was a little dry and even the yogurt sauce didn’t help. The sauce by the way was not very good – it was very watery and lacked the body I am used to with it. I loved the hummus with the pita bread (you have to request pita – otherwise they give you a little roll…) and the cous cous was really good too. I had a hard time with the tabouleh… it was just like eating a bunch of chopped up parsley with a little flavoring on it. Not very appealing.
The sliders were also good. I liked the chicken and the lamb one. I don’t care for falafel so that one went to Thomas and Faith. I had the same issue with the sides here. Great hummus, meh on the tabouleh. The lentil salad on this platter was also meh. It was served chilled which I don't care for, and it just didn't have a ton of flavor.
I also didn’t care for the baklava at all. It was pretty flavorless and sickly sweet. I have had MUCH better baklava here at a local Greek joint. I threw most of it away.
We used 2 CS credits.
This was a GREAT use of dining plan credits. We spent almost $40 for 2 CS meals. And the food is good! You should stop in here!!!
For a snack after lunch, Faith had a Kaki Gori.

She ate most of it, but the taste I had was really good and I just love the consistency of the ice they have there – it was very different. It was REALLY sweet though.
1 snack credit.

With all the pastry choices at TC I cannot believe they just give you bakalava...they should allow you to choose something else! The strawberry tart they have is to die for...flavored with a bit of almond, oh boy it is great!

When did Japan start serving Kaki Gori in a cup? :confused3 It's not a snow cone anymore (and I'd be willing to bet the portion size is smaller now as a result). They used to be so massive that Jay and I could easily share one and for the price they were a real bar-gin as my mom likes to say.

2 Orders of fries (an extra one for the three of us to share) with a side of (nasty) ranch dressing.

We had the opportunity to attend the Wishes Dessert Party held at the Tomorrowland Terrace. I’m going to take a minute and describe the process since many of you have never done it and may be curious.
We arrived at the Terrace about 8:30pm to find a GIANT line. By the time they started admitting people to the actual terrace, the line stretched almost to the rocks and the gateway to the actual Tommorrowland.
About 10 minutes ‘til 9:00, a lady with a clipboard came through and checked our name off her list and another CM issued us each a wrist band. At about 9:00 we were admitted one party at a time to our previously assigned table. No need to rush! You have an assigned table… It isn’t first come, first serve!!:thumbsup2
We sat down at our table (which was placarded with our name and also had little castle confetti) and got our bearings. Then we hit the buffet.
Being the evil step mother that I am, I didn’t feed us dinner. I forced my family to wait until after the party to eat. Since the party was a surprise to Faith, she was wondering why we weren’t eating! We were very hungry so gorged ourselves on the yummy treats. Let’s have a look, shall we!?

This plate has some goodies on it… Wanna know what they were???
On the right hand side of the picture, you see 2 small shot glass looking things? The orangish one is a Mango Shooter. OMG. YUM! The other one tasted like Tiramisu and was a bite or two. I was supposed to share with Thomas, but oops… I ate the whole thing before I realized it! The chocolate covered strawberries were so good (we ate a LOT of them – Faith alone probably ate a dozen!). The litte fruit tart thing wasn’t very good. I didn’t care for the crust or the filling, but the fruit on top was tasty!! The other two square pastries were (on the right) a banana flavored one and (on the left) a chocolate one. I had the same problem with the se as the fruit… I didn’t care for the crust, but the filling was sooooooo good. The other little cup was a chocolate mousse and was delish! The drink in the background is a blackberry (I think) tea. It was really tasty. They also had water (pictured), milk, and lemonade. You could also make hot tea (there were bags). I can’t remember if there was coffee… I don’t drink it as a general rule.

Another plate. Man. We ate a lot!!!
Most of the things on this plate I have already discussed, except for one… the raspberry tart. Pictured on the top right of the plate. These were one of our favorites of the night. The raspberry filling was just right, tart, sour, sweet, PERFECT! I bet I ate 3 at least. Faith loved these too… Also pictured here is a cannoli – it was ok, but I am not a big fan… I just wanted to try it!

All the shooters!
This was one of Thomas’ plates. He found the TRUFFLES!!! :love:He brought back 3 flavors and we split each of them. I have no words…. Just suffice to say they were good…. Really good. Also pictured is crème brulee and another fruit tart which (I think) was much better than the one I tried first.

WOW! What a bargin (pronounced however you like!). We loved the dessert party and the location for watching Wishes. Tinkerbell flew right over our heads! It was fantastic. There was also a Photopass photographer there to take our picture in front of the castle.
Would I do it again? YES YES YES!!!:banana::banana: I am not sure what the status on this party is… There is a lot of “distalk” about it, but what I can say is, if you get the chance… GO!!!

We got some rain... about 4 inches plus a little. We avoide the 12 inch deluge that the people out northwest of us. We avoided the worst of it. It was so wonderful to get rain, so.... you gotta take the good with the bad, right?
As for being the typical Austinite... well... How can I say this? I'm not. I do like sustainability and fresh food, but I am SO not the birkenstock-granola-unshaven armpit type. :rotfl2:

Thank you for the review of the dessert party. I am trying it for the first time on my next trip. I wonder if they use the same pastry shell things for the mini desserts as 1900 Park Fare, since I liked the fillings there, but not the crusts.

Thanks for the update on the Dessert Party. I am curious... when making our reservation the CM was very careful to explain (as they always do) that the price included tax but not gratuity. Since it is a buffet and you are not served, I am assuming there is no gratuity. Am I correct on this??

OOPS! :headache: i did not EVEN THINK about tipping here. There was no receipt to sign, no check to pay, so it didn't even cross my mind. OMG. I feel like a really bad Dis'er. How embarassing. :guilty:
Normally, at buffets, I try to tip - espcially if one CM goes out of their way to clear plates, point out something or get something. Tipping is recommended at most of the buffets (I can speak to CP specifically - there was a tip recommended on the receipt.)

Normally, at buffets, I try to tip - espcially if one CM goes out of their way to clear plates, point out something or get something. Tipping is recommended at most of the buffets (I can speak to CP specifically - there was a tip recommended on the receipt.)
But I can't imagine they are expecting a tip. Where would you leave it? they are not serving you, correct? they are just refilling the platters of desserts? So tipping would not be expected. At CP meals you are being taken care of by a specific server, whether it is a sit sown location or a buffet. This is not quite the same, I think. I hope!
Anyone??

First, thanks so much for the wonderful review of the MK dessert party! We'll be attending ours on October 14th ... a little more than three weeks to go! :cool1: Everything looks delicious ... :cloud9:
As for tipping - since everything at this event is prepaid and truly self-service I don't think there is any need to tip. I think you were just fine Ms. H. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the review! Unfortunately we won't be able to fit the dessert buffet into our schedule, it sure looked great. I agree with Brenda, I don't think tipping was necessary.:goodvibes

I don't really like sweet things, but there's enough chocolate at that buffet for me to maybe experiance it sometime if they keep it around. It looks very pretty though- even to a nonsweet tooth like me.

Love the review of the dessert party, it looks fantastic. I know they are extending it until Dec 29, it would be awesome if they would extend it through January, when DFi and I are going, it sounds delicious.

I forgot to mention the chocolate chip cookies in my review. They were quite yummy and I ate about 1/2 a dozen or so... Enjoy a couple for me!!
