I thought this might be the right place to come. I'm ready to throw my new iphone out the window. I've had great fun playing with it all week. But now I'm trying to set up my voicemail and can't.
The manual says to tap voicemail and then greeting. There is no greeting icon to tap. When I press voicemail, it starts to dial voicemail and asks for my mobile number and security code over and over before cutting me off.
Any suggestions would be appreciated before I start using my old Nokia again

OK. When you the voicemail button in the upper lefthand corner is a button that says greeting. Is it not there? After you hit that a button for default or custom should come up. hit custom and then record so you can record your message.
Hope this helps

Try going to the keypad and pressing and holding "1" It should redirect you to your voicemail.
If it doesn't work - your phone just simply is not set up for voicemail right now. It happens sometimes. Call your service provider and ask them to add (or reset) your voicemail.
Edit:: Just noticed your in Australia. Don't throw your phone out the window it will be ok =)

Definitely no greeting icon. I tried pressing '1' and it took me to voicemail but again all it is is the keypad and it starts dialing voicemail straight away.

At this point it doesn't look like its something that is going to get fixed without a call too your service provider. They are there to help, just give them a ring. :goodvibes

I must also suggest customer support. I had an issue with trying to send a home-made video to my Iphone.. I arranged for a call.. got the call right at the arranged time.. and the CSR directed me perfectly on how to fix my problem.
Good luck!
