Hey guys! My friend was asking about how to do the cp. She's really interested in it but she has a little boy. He's about 8 years old and she's a single parent. Is there a way for her to do the program? I know people who are married do the program and just have different housing...could she do this as well?

i'm really not sure if that they would allow her or not, it just seems nearly impossible to do it with an 8 y/o b/c she'll be working very irregular hours, he'd have to be going to school and she'd have to get childcare that will go late into the night. and she'd probably miss out on a lot of the housing events and stuff

They allow people with children to participate in the program.

And yes they allow her to find alternate housing. She would be totally repsonsible for that.

She also will have to provide full availability so good child care arrangements are important.

Touching on the child care, the role she got would vary a lot on the child care she would need to get. The only role that seems to have solid hours is something like a vacation planner. Even then it isn't concrete, but patterned. I know at my location I only worked in the evening, but the only thing she could do is request that--and she wouldn't know that location until she got there unfortunately so she wouldn't be able to plan.

Anything at DAK has pretty limited hours - so if she explains her situation the CP office may be able to help her out.

Since she is required to live off-site, has she considered just going to FT? The economy is tough at the moment, but if it's not for a couple seasons it may be easy to get FT. Most people do the CP for the housing - since she wouldn't be eligible, the FT roles pay more!
