We have a few questions about extending. My son was selected for Custodial arriving August 24. He is already hoping he can extend. Are the possibilities good for that? How many months can you extend for? And how far into the CP before you find out whether you can extend?

(I found great airfare for his current CP end date in early January and don't want to buy tickets if there is a chance he will be extending. On the other hand, I don't want to pass it over and end up paying a lot more later on if he can't extend)!

Thanks for your help!

Extension opportunities for College and International Programme participants are decided based upon the expressed labour needs of the work areas, as well as the Participant Cast Member's Record Card.

Extension opportunities will be posted in the work areas and through internal communication networks as each Programme End Date approaches (approximately 1-1.5 months prior). Each posting will communicate the Extension Period that Participants may apply for, and their new Programme end date if accepted.

Per Walt Disney World Co. policy, Domestic Program participants at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida may only be continiously employed in student programmes (defined as the Disney College Program, Disney Career Start Program and Disney Professional Internships) for up to a period of one year.

I agree on all of this. The only thing that I have to add is that once your son's program come close to the end, he will have to option of becoming a a seasonal CM. There are certain condition that he will have to meet. His record card has to meet the same guidelines as extensions and he will be required to work 10 shifts per year. If he is able to meet these requirements, he can stay a CM and keep all those wonderful discounts that parents love!
