Hidely ho, foodarinos!!!

Welcome to the newest installment of Jay and Bendy's dining adventures - scheduled to begin in earnest on October 14th. Nine weeks is a long time to nurse a pre-dining trippie, but after navigating the treacherous waters of Food & Wine Festival special event booking yesterday, I can no longer contain my enthusiasm or my hunger. And who better to share those things with than you? :goodvibes

Who the heck are we, you ask?

We're a couple of silly DINKS who love food-n-booze-n-travel, especially when they are connected by hyphens and the letter "n". :rotfl2:

Oybolshoi: your devoted author ... aka Brenda / Bendy. Thanks to a lifetime of dealing with Crohns Disease I used to be terrified of food ... now, food is terrified of me because I've turned into a remorseless eating machine. I plan the trips and the dining tours and have, on occasion, been known to make the credit cards spontaneously combust. This trip coincides with my 40th birthday which is on October 17th - it's my birthday and I'll gorge if I want to! :lmao:

The hubba: Jason ... just a tad younger than his old Crohn of a wife and a far more adventurous and spicy eater, too. He's my lovey ... my partner in crime ... my sounding board ... my personal baggage handler. ;) He is the most easygoing of travel companions and puts up with his high-strung wifey, for which he deserves a medal.

Epcot's annual Food & Wine Festival is the primary reason that Jay and I visit WDW every October - as usual on this trip we plan on chowing our way around the World Showcase food kiosks and we have a few special festival dining events booked as well. And once more we've planned out our ADRs to incorporate a mix of old favorites with some weird and scary new places.

I should also mention that we will be joined halfway through our vacation by my nephew and his wife, henceforward to be known as Guest X and Guest Y. They will be dining with us at certain locations, but do not worship at the trough of gluttony like we do; I fear that they disapprove of Auntie Crohn's food porn habit. :sad2:

So, what's on the agenda?

I thought you'd never ask!!!

Whoa, I spotted a title! Nice work!

Did you nickname your nephew and niece-in-law based on chromosomes? If so, I nominate Guest Y as your nephew, since he's got the Y chromosome. ;)

I figured I'd be doing the main noshing around World Showcase on October 14th, with additional noshing perhaps on the 15th, but not too much due to the Flying Fish dinner later that night. I'm thinking I'd get to see you guys for some imbibing somehow on either Wednesday or Thursday, pending you turn on your cell phone so I can at least text message you.

I'm a bit jealous of the extended days, as I leave on October 19th. Everything looks wonderful.

Hiya Cass! :goodvibes And although I forgot to put it in the first post, I've got Yorkshire Fish & Chips penciled on my ADR calendar. Jay and I are such piggies I figure we can meet you guys for a snack and still have dinner at Yachtsman (it's a late ADR - 8:30PM).

Good eye! And yes, I thought X for his wife and Y for him was pretty funny ... that way they can't complain that I used their names and I'm still able to be accurate.

I promise to be a better phone person this year! :rotfl2: And I was thinking that we should meet up as soon as Jay and I leave Coral Reef. In the words of Mr. Burns "I owe you a squishee."

And actually ... if it's too crazy at Coral Reef when we get there we're just going to dump it and dine around the showcase. A friend of mine from work dined at Coral Reef last month on her trip and said they had to wait an hour for their table even with an ADR. In her words the place was a zoo.

I couldn't help myself ... I had to question her on one thing ...

"I thought it was an aquarium?"

:rotfl2:

I'm very excited about our overall dining plans ... since we won't be back next year Jay and I wanted to go out with a bang. We just have to be careful that we don't explode like Mr. Creosote at the end of this trip.

Hurray! A new Bendy food porn report!:woohoo:

You have some really interesting food plans - can't wait to hear all about it! We have finally booked to go back to WDW - in August 2010! It's less than a year now!

We've already pretty much decided where we want to eat :rolleyes1 so I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to say about those places!

We are in Disneyland Paris in October to tide us over - so I'll devour your food review when I get back!

Bring on the juicy details!:surfweb:

Any time I've been to the Coral Reef there's always a delay past the ADR time to get seated, even when they first open for lunch. Go figure! The CMs must be too mesmerized by the fishies.

I've always had good luck with the CR at lunch but for some reason the one time I went for dinner it seemed like the menu had fewer offerings than at lunch.

Hiya Jamie - thanks for stopping by! We do have quite a line-up ... I think we're trying to make up for not being there next year. If I know us a couple of these are likely to fall by the wayside once we're actually there, but we'd rather have the ADR and cancel it than not have one at all.

Hi Bridget! I'm sorry we won't be at WDW at the same time either, it would have been good to meet you. Thanks for joining us here!

Good to know; thanks for sharing. I'm not even sure why we picked Coral Reef ... probably just to try something different. No hardship to dine around the world showcase if we must, but it's nice to have an idea of what to expect if Coral Reef is nutso when we check in.

:yay: This should be awesome, what a great line-up! I'm so looking forward to meeting y'all!!!!!!!

We'll be there the same time! I'm going from 10/15-18. I was going to do the tequilla tasting on the 16th too, but my fear of getting a migraine on that day and then having $40 go down the drain squashed that. :(

AAHHH! I am late to this fantastic party of drinking, eating, drinking some more, snacking, having another drink, meeting up with other Disers, oh and did I say drinking? After all that is our favorite part of Disney right?

The only thing is that I have to miss it this year! Bummer that we are going at different times again but hey, please leave me some of that yummy raspberry cocktail thing from the Poland stand at the F&W ok? I know you looove it so but try to control yourself :rotfl:

Hope you guys have a fantastic time, cannot wait to read, and drool, all about it!

October 18th:
lunch at Sci-Fi
dinner at Victoria & Allbert's

This is an interesting combination - I'll be dying to hear which one you liked best :rotfl2:

We also are subject to family for five days of our October trip... my white zindandel swilling SIL who told me a few weeks ago at a family event "oh, you're having fruit for dessert instead of ice cream cake - that's good" and her husband who wants to know in advance what particular lens to use for his camera each day he's at DW so he can take his usual 5,000 pictures and is a teetotaler - lots of F&W fun to be had!

Great to see you are planning another F&WF adventure. Send the updates, ramblings, and plans this way when ready. I loved the Flanders and Captain McAllister comments. Question: What is the basis for the title?? Is there a back story??

Also, very excited to see you planning to tackle some new territory, namely Il Mulino, Fresh, and The Yachtsman. But, admittedly, I am most excited about the WSAD II. I will have bail money set aside, just in case the is any 'unpleasantness'.... :lmao:

I've got Coral Reef too, in September on the Overhyped Disney Restaurant Tour. It's nuts because it's like a cave in there and lately it is full of what a friend of mine calls the "small screaming people." But I have lunch there because I want to try the blackened catfish.

You're doing Yak&Yeti for the first time too? It seems like it's been getting better reviews lately so that's what got me interested.

And I'll really be looking forward to your Yachtsman Steakhouse review. Artist Point and Yachtsman lost out on my signature dinner list this trip, so I have to save them for another time.

Tried it last year for lunch and the food was pretty *meh* for our group. Not bad, but not great, esp for the price. It's a shame, because I LOVED the theming, and the service was excellent. I really wanted to love it, but thought it was just ok. Maybe it has improved?:confused3

Don't "know" you like many of the other posters, but I have read your other reports and love love love them. I am looking forward to this one. No WDW trip for us this year but we have a good reason. About the time you are enjoying your imbibe fest I should be having a baby. Drink one for me will ya?????? Just reading the drinks in the pp was killing me. Hey lady!

I'm in!! Looking forward to seeing you and Jay also during that time!!

Hi Jeanne! Thanks for stopping in - we're looking forward to seeing you and Marcel this year, too! :goodvibes

Hiya Nicki! I was really hoping we were going to overlap this year, but it was not meant to be ... maybe the fates were afraid between you and Todd and me and Jay that there would be no alcohol left?

As for the "beverage" in Poland ... in the words of Frodo Baggins ... "I wish that drink had never come to me." :lmao:

October 18th:
lunch at Sci-Fi
dinner at Victoria & Allbert's

This is an interesting combination - I'll be dying to hear which one you liked best :rotfl2:

Yep ... it does look strange, doesn't it? But that's where Guest X and Guest Y wanted to dine after they check in Sunday. Jay and I figure we'll just have ourselves some alcoholic milkshakes and split an order of fries.

We think the only way V&A could be better is if they showed the cheesy B clips from Sci-Fi in their dining room! :rotfl2:

We also are subject to family for five days of our October trip... my white zindandel swilling SIL who told me a few weeks ago at a family event "oh, you're having fruit for dessert instead of ice cream cake - that's good" and her husband who wants to know in advance what particular lens to use for his camera each day he's at DW so he can take his usual 5,000 pictures and is a teetotaler - lots of F&W fun to be had!

I have no one to blame but myself. And I don't really mean that the way it sounds ... it's just that we wanted to do something nice and we did ... but then we forgot that means we have to worry about other people now (and can't book that signature dinner at the Wave that we wanted to try). No good deed goes unpunished, right? :lmao:

Brenda - off the top of my head I will say that we really enjoy Coral Reef. I think their lunches may be better these days than their dinners, but we have never had a bad meal there. There is sometimes a wait. We have always thought it was worth the wait.

Thanks for the input, Elin.

I'm in! And by the way, I was ridiculously excited to see that you have started your pre-trippie! I really need to get a life!:lmao:

I'm pretty sure I need a life, too ... nine weeks out from vacation and I'm already dreaming of food.

Yikes! I take a day off the boards and I miss the start of your TR! I knew there was a reason the computer was calling to me this morning. Brenda your dining choices look great and you have a few that are new to us also, so I'll be waiting to hear your reviews. :goodvibes

Thanks for joining in, Alison! We're looking forward to trying some new places on this trip ... I hope they live up to our expectations. :thumbsup2

Late to the party as usual but at least I'll be at the right party on the 17th :woohoo:

Your dining looks fantastic and I can't wait to read about each and every meal (and wish I was there a few more days so I could have joined you at Il Mulino since I haven't gotten there yet).

No one is ever late to this party ... remember, it never ends! Can't wait to see you in October!

I loved waking up this morning and finding this!

I am so sorry I won't be in Disney on the 17th to enjoy your party with you and all the other friendies.

Welcome aboard! It's too bad you can't join us, but we'll be thinking about ya! And we'll take good pictures. :goodvibes

:wizard: We are in and can't wait for more!

Really?? We all can't go now?? I am too excited!

Hiya Chelsi! :goodvibes I feel the same way ... can't we just fast forward to October, magically dropping twenty pounds at the same time?

Excellent!!

Great to see you are planning another F&WF adventure. Send the updates, ramblings, and plans this way when ready. I loved the Flanders and Captain McAllister comments. Question: What is the basis for the title?? Is there a back story??

Welcome Mr. Scorpio! I finally chose this title because it's just so silly, especially when taken out of context. Remember the Pie Man episode? That was just on Tuesday night and I couldn't get "Pie that Brownie, Fruitcake!" out of my head. I think it strikes just the right tone of total nonsensical gibberish that's perfect for me and my reviews. :rotfl2:

Also, very excited to see you planning to tackle some new territory, namely Il Mulino, Fresh, and The Yachtsman. But, admittedly, I am most excited about the WSAD II. I will have bail money set aside, just in case the is any 'unpleasantness'.... :lmao:

Rob

Well, you are partly to blame for our choosing some of those new places, so thanks in advance (we hope!).

And we are very pumped about WSAD II ... we've been training all summer!

yay another food report from Bendy! So what resort are you staying at this time?

Hiya! We're at the Beach Club Villas this time, so lots of easy access to Epcot! Thanks for joining us!

OF course I am in!!
I am still hoping to see you somehow on the 23rd when we arrive..my eyes will be peeled for a bendy and jay sighting!
your line up sounds GREAT! :)

Hi Gina! Thanks for stopping by - we will have to work something out on the 23rd ... it's a moral imperative!

I've got Coral Reef too, in September on the Overhyped Disney Restaurant Tour. It's nuts because it's like a cave in there and lately it is full of what a friend of mine calls the "small screaming people." But I have lunch there because I want to try the blackened catfish.

I'll be waiting to hear what you think about it. :thumbsup2

I might ask them not to put me next to the fish tank just because of a post someone made a while back about how a kid came up and CLIMBED UP ON THEIR TABLE. :eek:They asked the father to remove the kid and he said "She just wants to see the fish." Then he squeezed in between the poster's chair and the chair behind theirs to take pictures. Yikes. Nobody better try that on me. :headache:

You're doing Yak&Yeti for the first time too? It seems like it's been getting better reviews lately so that's what got me interested.

And I'll really be looking forward to your Yachtsman Steakhouse review. Artist Point and Yachtsman lost out on my signature dinner list this trip, so I have to save them for another time.

And you weren't kidding when you said you had a lot of ADRs.

We thought Yak & Yeti seemed like a good place to stop and share a couple of appetizers and some frosty beverages. And I'm hoping that the use of the word "yak" in their name refers to a noun and not a verb.

As for Artist Point ... in the words of Danny Vermin, "We ate at Artist Point once. Once."

Yachtsman is one of those places we've talked about trying for years ... even going so far as to make ADRs that we later cancel. Since Stinktown is home to so many good beef places it's hard for us to get excited about it in Florida when all we want to do is sweep the seas clean. :rotfl2:

I'M LATE!!!

Amazing how quickly time flies!!! I didn't know you had Crohns... My SIL and DH's friend have Crohns... it is a crappy disease, to put it bluntly! Glad you're not letting it rule you!

I can't wait to read all about your gastric adventures! (we'll definitely meet up on the 23rd, when we begin ours! Can't wait!)

71 days for us!

You're not late, you're right on time! :thumbsup2

And yes ... Crohns can be a craptacular way of life but I've been very fortunate that my medication keeps it pretty well under control. It still flares now and then but not badly enough to land me in the hospital, so I'm good! :goodvibes

Looking forward to seeing you at the Squishee stand!

Tried it last year for lunch and the food was pretty *meh* for our group. Not bad, but not great, esp for the price. It's a shame, because I LOVED the theming, and the service was excellent. I really wanted to love it, but thought it was just ok. Maybe it has improved?:confused3

Well, I've my fingers crossed that the food's improved. I really just want the ahi tuna appetizer and a Yak attack ... and Jay will likely want the pot stickers. As long as those pass muster we'll be happy.

Am I still hallucinating on pain killers or am I witnessing yet another Bendy Food Extravaganza????:banana::banana:

(I have to go back to bed...:rotfl2:)

Yes. :rotfl2:

Your line up looks great! I'm hoping to try Kouzzina's for dinner when we stay at Boardwalk next year. Did you see their drink line up? Yum! :

Cat's Ouzo-tini
Cat's personal recipe features Absolut Vodka, Metaxa Ouzo, Pineapple Juice, fresh Lime Juice, and Pomegranate served in a Sugar-rimmed Martini Glass Shaken and served table side

Pomegranate Splash
Citrus Vodka, PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur, and Cranberry Juice topped with Soda Water

Greek Island Iced Tea
Citrus Vodka, Rum, Gin, Metaxa Ouzo and Sweet-and-Sour topped with a splash of Coca-Cola

Kouzzina-rita
Organic Blanco Tequila, Agave Nectar, fresh Lime Juice, and a shot of PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur

Sparkling Poinsetta
Domaine Spiropoulos Greek Sparkling Wine with a splash of PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur

Sangria
Kouzzina house blend Sangria served by the Glass or Pitcher
I have drool on my keyboard just reading it, trying the Ouzo-tini for sure!

The drink lineup was one of the things that caught my eye. I think I want to try the pomegranate splash with my breakfast! I'm not crazy about a lot of Greek food so breakfast seemed like a good option, especially once I saw the preliminary menu and spotted press pot coffee along with those boozey drinks.

And how the heck was your trip? You've been MIA since early summer ... I was beginning to think you'd all been on the receiving end of some bad meals. :scared1:

Don't "know" you like many of the other posters, but I have read your other reports and love love love them. I am looking forward to this one. No WDW trip for us this year but we have a good reason. About the time you are enjoying your imbibe fest I should be having a baby. Drink one for me will ya?????? Just reading the drinks in the pp was killing me. I also think "breakfast" on the 20th looks good. Have a great time and I look forward to living vicariously through your report.

Hi there and welcome to the fun - don't be a stranger ... the more the merrier around here! :goodvibes

I will be more than happy to raise a glass to you and your new baby - congratulations!!!

Nice Johnny Dangerously quote!:rotfl:

Had a great vacation, probably the best one yet with the whole clan going. Had not stayed at Boardwalk before. I think that is what made my mom and dad "catch the magic" so to speak because before I knew it they had bought a bunch of DVC points before the week was out. :woohoo:

Had lots of good food, the biggest surprise was my letdown BlueZoo experience....:confused3. It was just an "off" night for all four of us that went. My SiL is pregnant so she couldn't booze it up with me on all their interesting drinks and my husband would rather be eating at Casey's Corner. That coupled with the fact that we had our reservations at 5pm because my brother and SiL felt bad about leaving my parents with the kids and wanted it to be an early evening, so we literally had the place to ourselves. Like I said, the whole vibe of the evening was 'off'. Better luck next time......

The little chilluns running around the night we dined there (and this was in 2007) did contribute to our lack of love for AP. Honestly everything was off that night .. and to be even more honest ... neither one of us are big Pacific Northwest menu fans. To me AP has one of the most limited menus of all the signature restaurants and it seems to be carved from stone, in that it never changes.

Even Jay, who is quite adventurous, said he has no desire to go back to AP. It's the only signature restaurant that we've ever said that about. I never tell people not to eat there because I'm big proponent of "try it yourself and form your own opinion," but I also do not recommend it to anyone.

That review is buried in a thread that doesn't have links because I was too dumb then to know how to do it. My good friend TheDISneyfamily had to give me a lengthy tutorial via PM before I finally figured it out. If you really want to read it I'll scare it up for you tomorrow night.

Jay and I dream about fresh ... really fresh ... seafood. While I like not having to worry about hurricane season six months out of every year, being landlocked does have it's disadvantages. ;) And somehow catfish and mudbugs (crawfish) just don't pass muster. :rotfl2:

Looks like that squishee stand is going to see a lot of action from you.

And boy, I totally missed the Coral Reef story. I know I would have lost my cool. I would have told the father that if he didn't remove his child from the table, he or his child would be wearing my meal.
YES i would have a VERY VERY difficult time not doing something if someones child was climbing on my table...i would certainly be sure to make the parents wear the chocolate wave.

Anyone here watch Top Chef Masters? Ted Flanders IS Rick Bayless! ;)

HA..YES! I cannot wait for the finale ( sidenote) ;)

I do agree with you about AP never changing their menu, at least not enough to see any real changes. I think that's the reason I haven't bothered getting an ADR there, going from the menu on All Ears, there is only one appetizer I haven't had yet that really sounds interesting to me.

ETA - I found your AP review. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=19455900&postcount=459

Yeah, AP's menu just doesn't do much for us. And thanks for taking the time to find that link ... I'd give you a coke but by the time it would reach you it would be flat. ;)

I hate that review.

Anyone here watch Top Chef Masters? Ted Flanders IS Rick Bayless! ;)

I guess Jay and I need to watch that show one of these days.

I hear Artist Point has put the buffalo back on the menu. I may go back for that. But the buffalo is really expensive and I don't do no stinkin' dining plan.

I saw that buffalo is on the most recent menu I've seen for AP, but it's still not a big enough draw for us to go back. Luckily we live fairly close to where the deer and the buffalo play, so when Jay gets a hankering for some it's easy enough to get him some.

Love your statement about the dining plan! :lmao:

:lmao:Chelsi, you are so right!!! They could be clones!:lmao:

And Brenda, you're already at 5 pages, and only two days into your pre-trippie....at this point, you'll have to start a new thread before you even go!:rotfl:

:rotfl2::lmao:

:rotfl2::lmao:

Five pages...:scared1:

We're just all very excited, that's all. And Jay and I want to go out with a bang, so we're going to try very hard to make this the best, most silly dining report yet.

No pressure, right? ;)

:woohoo:looking forward to this one!

Especially the 20th - looking forward to part II of 'the world' alcohol domination - your mission statement should be ' must try harder' :lmao: as quite frankly you let the side down in part I :rotfl: and what will X&Y think ? will they be able to keep up or scowl over their lemonade?

Yeah, we didn't do so well on the second half of our alcoholic domination plan last year. I think our proximity to our hotel will make a big difference this year because if we need to take a break before continuing on our quest we can just walk over to the Beach Club and dry out at the pool.

Guest X & Guest Y have already informed us that they are going to do their own thing that day. I thought for sure they'd at least want to join us for lunch at Chefs or maybe snack around the world a bit with us, but they want no part of our shenanigoats, er, I mean shenanigans.

Their loss, but to be brutally honest ... Jay and I roll best when alone.

YUMMMMM...love sparkly wine and fruit drinks!!! Might have to step in to the bar...

Follow the bubbles ...

YES i would have a VERY VERY difficult time not doing something if someones child was climbing on my table...i would certainly be sure to make the parents wear the chocolate wave.

:lmao: Wearing the Chocolate Wave ... that's a great visual!

:rotfl2:

There is no way this thread is going to 3750 before October 14th ... I just don't have that much to talk about - hard though that may be to believe.

Subscribing! Brenda, you do the best reports!!

Hey there! You'd best be careful with the wine, hon, since there are a little more than 8 weeks to go before we leave! But I promise that once we get home Jay and I will do our best to write highly entertaining and informative reviews that pair well with wine!

Thanks everyone for signing on - I'm so happy that you're all excited as we are! I'll be back soon to talk about the birthday cake we're hoping to order from the Boardwalk Bakery.

In the meantime, if you're really desparate for something to read, click on the link in my signature and check out our blog. We've posted some reviews of Stinktown restaurants we've dined at this year with some (mostly) yummy food porn pics.

I am now convinced that I am trying to cram two vacations worth of food into this one trip in October. :rotfl2:

Today I made a breakfast reservation at the Wave ... the rationale being that since room service is so overpriced, and since they've pared the room service menus down so much anyway ... we'd be better off trying something new. I've got it booked for Tuesday, October 20th ... the day we're going to try to drink around the world.

The key to successful, long-lasting World Showcase Alcoholic Domination is a hearty, nutritious breakfast ... washed down with booze! :rotfl2:

I also forgot to mention earlier that we are likely to visit Beaches & Cream twice on this visit. Jay and I always kick off a Beach Club Villas stay with lunch at B&C; Guest Y has declared in no uncertain terms that we must order the Kitchen Sink, so it looks like we will be paying B&C a second visit after X&Y join us at WDW. Jay and I are game ... we think it will be a hoot. Finally ... a little enthusiasm from the relatives! :thumbsup2

I think I will use Mr. Burns to rate items on the Overhyped Restaurant Tour...I have this graphic...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a88/cathlam/burns.jpg

but what can he say if the food isn't excellent?

There is an episode where Smithers is cooking dinner for Mr. Burns and he mentions that a kind word now and then would make him feel a little more appreciated, to which Mr. Burns replies, "I'm choking it down!"

EDITED TO ADD THIS PICTURE!

One of them I think you "know" from your other TRs: BoosGram (Joanne). She lives here in the 'Burg and we get together every once in a while to talk and have a good time. I wish it were more often. Her DH will be along for the trip.

The other two are friends from the Creative DISign boards, DDA thread. We have all known one another for 4-5 years and have vacationed together at WDW, MagicMeets and even in between in Baltimore (they live in the Lancaster, PA area). Steffy (Stephanie) and tink1bell (Terry) are crazy, fun people who have gone so far as to crash my family reunion at WDW in 2007 (along with 17 other DDA DISers). :rotfl2: That was a riot, too! They are celebrating Stephanie's birthday on the cruise, sans hubbies.

If all the people on the cruise are like 6 of you it will be a cruise that goes down in the record books! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: I would love to be a fly on the wall to see that!

I could be that fly on the wall. I'm going to be there on those exact dates, too.

I had no idea you were taking a cruise! I've been playing around with the idea of taking one, but keeping going to Disney World instead. I'll be looking foward to know what you think of the food, even if it is a year away.

We've taken two 7-night Disney cruises ... the last one was in 2005 ... I rememebr the food being good in most instances. The only thing that really knocked our socks off was Palo. We're both looking forward to trying a lot of new things on this cruise since it's a 14-nighter.

Not that this is even relevant to this thread, but Jay and I are probably going to start a second blog just for that cruise and we're going to try to post live updates while we're on the ship. :thumbsup2

Just found ya Bendy! I am so in for this one. Your Food trippies are one-of-a-kind, girl!

Hey stranger! Nice to to see you again and thanks for joining us on our last, best gorgefest!

I love your trip reports...I have stayed up late many nights reading through them.

Enjoy your trip!! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: I would love to be a fly on the wall to see that!

Oh stop. :lmao: Maybe she's gonna say that more in horror ... like, "oh my god ... did you see that woman pound back that beer and inhale that snausage???" :scared1: :rotfl2:

One of them I think you "know" from your other TRs: BoosGram (Joanne). She lives here in the 'Burg and we get together every once in a while to talk and have a good time. I wish it were more often. Her DH will be along for the trip.

Ah yes ... I do "know" BoosGram. :goodvibes

:goodvibes

Sounds like good people to me! :thumbsup2

LOL...I may have to buy an autograph book for the occasion. ;)

Oh no ... the only family member what gives out autographs is Grimace. :lmao:

love love love Citricos. My travelling companions refused to let me make an ADR there for this trip b/c we have gone so many times. I relented, but fully plan on getting in there anyway, even if I have to drug them and tell them its Narcoosee's

You MUST try: appetizer: Gateau of Crab. this ain't your momma's crab cake. who would have though a glorified spider could taste like this. Entree: Braised Boneless Short Ribs. Indescribable. Perhaps the greatest food item at WDW. Certainly in a dead heat with the Pork Tenderloin at CG. The wine list is killer as well. you pretty much can't go wrong here.

what about desserts at Citricos? the ones on the unofficial menus look kinda boring.

Hate to say though that there's no way I'm getting short ribs - I'm not a beef person. I'm a fish person. But the crab is interesting - unless it involves mayonnaise somehow.

no mayo in the crab, heavy cream, I believe. not exactly a healthy option :goodvibes if beef is off the menu for you, I recall that the the grouper is quite good.

agree about the desserts, never had anything there that was really worth the calories. we typically have dessert elsewhere. Honestly, I think that's true of most of the TS places at WDW, I can't think of a dessert that has really knocked me out. Seeing as I'm anti-DP, I don't need to feel obligated to get one either, which works out nicely:)

At Citricos I had the Goat Cheese Truffles for an App...:cloud9: If I could eat those every day of my life, I think I would.

And for my meal I had the lamb with a scallop. It was delicious. One of the top meals I've ever had. My review (with pics) is linked in my siggie, it's from February.

Actually, I don't think we had one bite of fish in that meal at all, and we all enjoyed our meal. So entirely do-able!

Today, the F&W powers-that-be opened up on-line registration for culinary demos / wine tastings / and other flotsam and jetsam associated with six weeks of food and booze. At first I was under the impression that only Tables in Wonderland members could registar and qualify for a discount ($5 per person instead of $8) ... but then a little asky-asky here on the DIS alerted me to the fact that anyone could register and purchase tickets for these events, but only Annual Passholders, DVC members, and TiW members would get the discount.

Well, membership finally has its privileges! I used our DVC card this morning to get six, no ... seven demos / seminars during our upcoming trip. It was a surprisingly easy and glitch-free process ... I must give Disney three thumbs up for making it such a pleasant experience this morning.

And I must say ... in the past we've rarely attended seminars / demos because we didn't like having to stand around for an hour just on the off chance that we might get a seat to something. This way we're guaranteed a seat and don't have to waste precious eating and drinking time just standing around wishing we were eating and drinking. :rotfl2:

So, you wanna know what else we're cramming into this already over-stuffed, bloated vacation?

Thursday, October 15th - Culinary Demo / Wine Tasting with Chef Kevin Dundon from Raglan Road

Saturday, October 17th - Wine Seminar with Moet & Chandon Champagne (what better to have on your 40th birthday???)

Sunday, October 18th - Culinary Demo / Wine Tasting with Moonstruck Chocolates!

Monday, October 19th - Culinary Demo / Wine Tasting with Chef Dylan Schauwecker from The Wave

Tuesday, October 20th - Spirit Seminar with Remy Martin Cognac

Wednesday, October 21st - Wine Seminar with La Crema Winery
Wednesday, October 21st - Culinary Demo / Wine Tasting with Pastry Chef Bill Clark from the Grand Floridian

Michelle .. I was really looking forward to meeting you and am sorry that you wont be at the Brenda Birthday Booze Bash! Have fun at Halloween! I love it then too! Are you doing the PFTS on Halloween? I'd love to know what they are doing!

Brenda here is an article I read from the Chef from Raglan and he talks about the dinner he's doing.
Not trying to make you feel worse .. just thought you would like to read it!
http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2009/08/26/interview-celebrity-chef-kevin-dundon-of-raglan-road/

Thanks for the link Chelsi - very interesting but now that I see he plans to serve suckling pig I'm totally bummed. Oh well ... there will be pork-a-plenty on this trip as it is. I love that the recipe for Ger's Bread & Butter pudding was included at the bottom of the interview - we'll have to make that this fall once the weather cools down.

So wait...if I'm not DVC, AP, or TiW, I can call and still reserve? Cause I've had my eye on that Moet one at 5:30 on the 17th...While I'm not comfortable with have $40 go down the drain if I get a migraine, I can live with $8. Either that one or the Puglia one at the same time...but they have that one on the 16th too. Oh man, if I can reserve both! Oh please tell me it's true...

ETA: the Puglia event was either changed or it's booked. But I was able to book the Moet one! I'm so excited! :yay: Thanks so much for posting this! I would have totally missed it otherwise!

Sorry I wasn't able to respond earlier ... I'm blocked from the boards while I'm at work. But I see you were able to decode the website and get what you wanted, so HOORAY!! :cool1:

I have to admit that I'm somewhat peeved that I can't parlay my status as a DL PAP holder into ANY benefit at WDW. Anyone happen to know if WDW ever offers anything to DL APers?:confused3

I've never heard of any cross-promotions, which is a bit of a shame.

Brenda, someday I have faith that a bald quadriplegic and two giant-people will head your way poolside, and we will imbibe candy-tasty booze (or the whiskey flight at RR) while the men duel for Chex Mix. You're doing great stuff with our vacation, BTW, excellent work!
:thumbsup2

Whiskey at Raglan Road it is!!! :thumbsup2 And I just added a couple of things to make vacation even better ... stay tuned! :goodvibes

Homer Simpson once said that a mountain of sugar may be too much for one man, but is it too much for Jay and Bendy?

We shall find out this fall because we booked ourselves a Wishes Dessert Party for the first night of our vacation. :cool1: Bye-bye Coral Reef dinner reservation, hello endless buffet of glazed, sticky, calorie-laden tooth decay!

I can't think of a better way to kick off a ten-day WDW orgy of food and booze than with a dessert buffet, can you? :woohoo::woohoo:

Perhaps the Wishes Dessert Party will be more like when the Simpsons went to Brazil and Homer had all the sweet fruits combined into one drink.

:lmao: It's quite possible this will happen to us. The obvious antidote will be to hop the bus to Downtown Disney and try some tequila and snackaroos at Paradiso 37. I'm not saying that's how the evening will play out but one must be prepared ... :rolleyes1

Great start to the TR... this one is gonna top 'em all! :thumbsup2

I know what you mean ... depending on the day there are different things that I look forward to, but I was very excited that they extended the dessert party through October. It's fun to be able to try something new and my friend at work, who attended one in July, said it was a very nice experience.

Hiya Michelle! We're are really looking forward to trying it and I think it will be a nice way to kick off our trip. SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR!!! And we haven't seen Wishes since ... maybe 2007 ... so the viewing area is an extra perk that we're excited about. :goodvibes

Serious digestive undertakings call for an equally serious travel mascot. Jay and I both feel that Plankton has played out WDW and has earned a much needed rest until we hit DCL's transatlantic cruise out of Barcelona next September.

Allow me now to introduce our newest, but still green, travel mascot given to us most generously by TheDISneyFamily last year ...

THE INGESTIBLE BULK!!!

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/oybolshoi/Stuff/October%202009/P8300003.jpg

You may be asking yourself, "Self, why is the Bulk propped up on a mountain of corks in front of a too small wine rack?"

That's a totally cromulent question.

The Bulk has great presence but can be a bit of a challenge to photograph. I like the image of him standing triumphantly on top of a vase filled with the corky leavings of many a tasty bottle of wine ... it sends just the right message:

WE SHALL OVER-EAT!!!!

Let's talk DISmeet ... just a little. I can't say too much because I don't want to spoil anything but I'm very excited that our little meet between a handful of DISers has morphed into a minor happening. I think we may be looking at somewhere between 30 and 50 people ... that's awesome and a little scary at the same time. :rotfl2:

Anyhoo, the night of the 17th actually seemed to work best for many of us so we're taking over the Beach Club's Solarium about 9:30PM that evening. Jay and I will be supplying birthday cake (I've always wanted a reason to order a custom cake from Disney) and everyone else will be bringing their beverage of choice to share around.

I think it will be a cakey-drinkie good time. :thumbsup2

Jay and I are also contributing a bottle of Meeker Vinyards Fro-Zin to the party ...

Frozin ... but it's still liquid!

I love spending money ... :rotfl2:

I just spoke with the nicest lady at Yacht & Beach Club Private Dining ... and I have placed an order for the custom birthday cake that all we fabulous friendies shall partake of on October 17th.

It will be a two-tier round cake ... larger layer chocolate with a white chocolate buttercream filling and the smaller round will be vanilla with dark chocolate buttercream filling.

I told them I'd prefer no fondant because it doesn't taste very good and is a pain to peel off the cake before eating anyway (besides ... the cost was getting too pricey with fondant). Asked them to make it festive and incorporate Goofy into it somehow and rather than saying Happy Birthday Brenda asked that it say Happy 40th Birthday ... that way it's like a cake for everyone who's turned 40 this year - or last or even next year! I'm a little leery of handing complete artistic license over to the bakery staff, but they know what they're doing so I'm just going to go with whatever they do.

They're even going to deliver it to the Solarium at 9PM that evening. :thumbsup2

Oooh, I work until 10:30 that night, but my work is like 10 min from the Beach Club! I wonder...

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/oybolshoi/Stuff/October%202009/P9050030.jpg

And here's a picture of our private stash for the trip ... stash as yet not complete! :rotfl2:

It's barely adequate ...

Now thats what I call a stash of booze :lmao:

:thumbsup2

:yay::yay::yay:

I can tell you that their chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream is wonderful, thats what we got from the Boardwalk Bakery for our wedding cake :cloud9:

You're going to have to make new buttons: I survived Brenda's B'day and all I got was this lousy liver disease.

OMG! That is priceless :lmao: :lmao:

Oooh, I work until 10:30 that night, but my work is like 10 min from the Beach Club! I wonder...

(PS- I just totally invited myself to your bday party.)

Crystal! Where you been, woman?! :goodvibes

And if you want to stop on by ... feel free. I think I can make it until about 11PM before I have to go to bed. :rotfl2: If I don't get enough sleep I will be surly the next day and with relatives arriving on the 18th and a dinner ressie at V&A that evening ... :scared1:

The cake sounds wonderful!

Here's hoping it tastes and looks as good as it sounds. :thumbsup2

Glad you decided to use foodie Homer as your mascot. :goodvibes He's travel-friendly and will represent the gorge-fest well! :thumbsup2 I LOVE the Chest of Booze! pirate: I just wish I could see the look on the TSA guy's face when he sees that in your luggage! LOL! :lmao: I am utterly bummed that I will not be attending the B-day festivities... :sad2: but my lovely stand-in, Jordan, will most likely be there if she has the night off. I'll have her call me when the party starts so I can toast with you all! :dance3: The cake sounds delicious! :cake:

Cheers!
-Michelle

Hey lady! I'd mail you some cake if I could but since I can't you will just have to trust Jordan to tell you how it tastes.

I'm thinking of shipping a lot of that stash down to the BCV so that we don't have to pack it ... can't decide just yet. We're flying Southwest so an extra suitcase won't be a problem but I am a little concerned about TSA. :confused3

And The Bulk is going to be awesome for next month! Thanks again! :goodvibes

The cake sounds yummy! Make sure and take lots of pretty pictures for us absentee friendies!!!

Denise

Will do!

I recognize that American Honey Bourbon!! :thumbsup2

Is it good?

Cake sounds wonderful! I'm so sad I'm going to miss it :sad1:

Us, too.

That cake sounds great Brenda!
Mmmm. Sounds like a yummy cake. I do luvs me some white chocolate...

Thanks! Yes it sounds good ... check back in about six weeks to find out if it passes the foodie-friendie taste test!

This is actually coming from Y&BC Private Dining ... the same bakery that makes cakes for the Yachtsman I believe. I hope it's as good as I think it will be because I will really feel bad if I serve everyone craptacular cake. :scared1:

I can't speak for anyone else about late night munchies but for us it will be no ... I will have to get to bed because Guest X&Y (also now known as the Chromosome Twins) arrive the following day and Auntie Crohn can't afford to be too out of sorts. ;)

Cass, you know you guys are always welcome!

Our name tags for the DISmeet arrived yesterday ... nothing fancy but at least this way we will all know who the heck we are, especially once the booze starts flowing. :rotfl2:

My friend Nancy was nice enough to print them out for us, so big huggles and thanks to Mother Goose!! :grouphug:

Awwww, and here I thought they were super duper fancy schmancy.

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Just kidding. They're as plain as the person who made them for ya.

We will be wearing ours October 2-8, because we can't be there with them all.

Speaking of the pins... I have a couple of extras if anyone still needs one or two. Let me know by PM.

 I wasn't being mean about what you did for us, Goosie. I just didn't want anyone showing up that night thinking that they were going to be on the receiving end of keepsake nametags with pins and such. I don't have that kind of money ... I just spent it all on cake! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

As for the pin ... it's yours to do with what you will. I'm not going to tell you when you can wear it! And you're always cool, Goosie! :thumbsup2

All caught up! So sorry to be missing the big celebration. I agree with Elin, please select a time that those of us at home can also toast you! Hey- how about a live web broadcast of the festivities? Oh nevermind... you may not want photographic evidence. ;)

The treasure chest looks great. I am chuckling thinking about TSA inspecting it and speculating on its destination!

As you know, I'll be there 9/24-10/3 (sporting my Homer pin proudly!) so if there's anything you need me to investigate for you, just let me know! :)

Brenda - Jason and I were talking again (and I repeat AGAIN) how cool this whole thing is that you have started!
It will be either really wonderful and we will all have some life long friends OR the 7th horseman of the apocalypse. It's a win - win! Darn sorry.. I have been watching History channel repeats of the END OF TIME again!:rotfl2:
