View Full Version : My DS11 and the DDP as an adult...

I need some help. I am banging my head against a wall trying to figure out how to feed DS who has a decent appetite and does eat more adventurously at times- but who I fear will not be very happy with the adult menu selections at our DDP ressies choices.

It is not so much about the $ and getting full value from the plan - although it does bug me a bit to know that I will pay the full adult DDP price for him and he may get a kids meal at most places... good for Disney tho.

Here are our ressies:

Tutto Italia- he will want the kids alfredo farfalle- can they make adult portion?

Kona- can't see him eating much of anything off adult menu- plain steak maybe?

Akershus Peincess breakfast- no issues

Brown Derby Fantasmic- I feel like I want to pay OOP for both DS11 and DD7, but have no room left in trip for those unused credits to get used.

Chef Mickey's- no issues obviously

50's Prime Time- think this one will be fine because of the familiar adult choices

Liberty Tree Tavern- lunch meal here- I think it will be a non-issue

And even tho there are similar concerns with the CS I don't care as much because he can get things he likes off either menu. I just don't think he will be happy with some of the more unique menu options.

What things have any of you tried to make the transistion from 'child' to 'adult' at WDW work for everybody?

TIA!:hippie:

My suggestion would be not to worry about it at all. My son was 10 on our first trip so already an "adult" by disney standards. He is a really picky eater so when we went to a few places that I really wanted to try, but that were a little away from "normal", I was so concerned he wouldn't like anything.

There were a few places that we ended up just getting larger portions of the kids meals, which they were happy to do. Tutto Italia was one of these places.

Other times he absolutely surprised me. I find that when he's on holidays his taste buds change and he was really willing to try anything. What I'm doing for our next trip is letting my son (now 12) on here and checking out the dining reviews of restaurants I'm thinking of booking.

Getting to see the pictures of some of the items and the reviews from other people is getting him interested in some restaurants I would never have guessed he would like.

Good Luck!

If you think he will want a child's meal at some of the restaurants, pay out of pocket for them and save the credits. Then book an extra meal, maybe a breakfast on your departure day if time allows.

Some of the CS meals are quite large-I share the 1/2 chicken meal with my niece. Maybe your children can share this size meal and use the other CS meal for breakfast to snack on.

Thanks guys- I think we will do as suggested... if he wants a kids meal item I will ask for a larger portion for him as an 'adult' and your're right- some kids try new things unexpectedly and ours is like that.... I bet he will love some of the new stuff.

Last year he surprised us by eating all but a couple of the potstickers at Ohana. Loved them.

Remember, if you have extra (adult) credits left over in pairs, there's always pizza delivery/room service to use up the extra credits.

Worst case, see about trading any extra TS for CS at your resort desk (no guarantees, but they may do it), and getting a meal for the road on your way out of town.

I'm betting if he's not a really picky eater at home, he'll find something to eat on all the menus. My DS, who was 6 on our last trip is a good eater, but prefers "normal" food to kid's menu items. He spent the whole trip picking the entree off my plate rather than eat his kid's meal.

Give him a chance - I bet he surprises you!
