My daughter was searching for new video games that would be coming out . In particular looking for info on the new Kingdom Hearts 358/2 game that will out in the next month. Anyway she came across what seems to be genuine conecpt art for a new game that is in the collaboration process with Disney.

Below is a link . Its all just drawings but I do warn you that it is not very nice to look at. Its nothing obscene but shows pictures of a damaged / destroyed Disney with zombie like creations of the characters. I was pretty discusted that something like that could have even gotten a Disney ok. How can this be? Does anyone know any more?

I love all kinds of video games along with my kids but this just bothers me .I know its not "official " yet but it is real game art concept drawings and there is real progress being made.

Actually Disboard rules can be a bit funny. So just in case someone decides to complain I posted it I will just tell you to search google by typing in " Disney steampunk Warren spector's " It will be the first link you pull up.

EDIT: I didnt post a direct link not because I was worried about the images but to protect myself from someone on here complaining. After reading more on the game and considering the fact the concepts are in the early stages and being a KH fan I decided to reserve judgement intil I see more. As long as they dont market it toward kids I am ok. But if its gore and promoted wrong I will stand by my " I dont like it " stance. Hopefully they will do something cool. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Yea, I guess the whole postapocolyptic disney concept dould be disturbing to young children. I am reserving judgment until I see some action shots of gameplay and get ore of a discription of the content. It looks like these are concept art stills that were not ment to be released and got leaked. The look of the game could change completely.

It actually looks pretty cool to me. Very creative. It is just a game. It isn't going to harm the parks. Disney is about profit. They are going to cash in where ever they can. This game should make them a pretty penny.

To OP thanks for posting this. I understand that some people may not like this kind of variation to a Disney game, but you must admit the artwork is very cool. Makes me think of Disney + Terminator + the series Life after People (History Channel) = something completely new/different.

I'll reserve judgement on the target audience until we see how they market it. It drives me crazy to see movies that are clearly for teens and adult marketed wtih toys in kids meals at Burger King.

I agree as well - steampunk can be very creative and these concept drawings are very well executed. If anything, it might get some people interested in the parks who might have never been interested before. While some might be uncomfortable with the post-apocalyptic renderings, I seriously doubt any game licensed by Disney would include graphic violence, so I'm not worried about that.

This game is the latest in a very long running series from the creators of the Final Fantasy video games and a unique collaboration with Disney. They were viewed as bizarre when they first came out years ago, but they have proven to hold their own with high production values and great story-telling. Everything you would expect from Disney. Mickey is a powerful and noble hero in the games, btw. They are very lucrative and some of the best Disney video games out there. Disney video games are generally not very good, but these usually are. Not always of course, but usually. It will be marketed to teenagers, btw.

That you find this disturbing, I don't know whether to laugh or cry......:confused3

My 17yr old nephew showed me those pics. I think it looks very cool, but not geared towards younger kids.

I understand where you are coming from OP, but keep in mind that Disney is not all about goodness and light. Just look at all 3 of the Pirates movies. They are a bit creepy and scare some younger kids.

Well I guess I should clarify.. I play Halo all the time .I own almost every Final Fantasy game ever made. I dont have any here because of kids but I have played games at my brothers house like Gears of War. I am not bothered by the concept of the game overall but rather that they put Disney into it . I mean you can Barney and you can have Resident Evil.. But is it really neccesary to combine them? lol ( Just think ....Resident Barney)

I just didnt think that this fit the image that I thought Disney wanted to maintain. I stand by the fact that I dont think Walt would have liked it.

If they market it as a adult game fine. But I sure as heck hope they keep from promoting it the wrong way. I guess I will just reserve judgement until I see what they do with it. I love Kingdom Hearts games. If its done in a way similar it might be ok maybe.

Now that I think of it the Tomb Raider games ( my favorite) had some pretty out there looking storyboards and concept idea's in the past but in the end the game never quite seemed as graphic as what we thought it would be. I wonder if this will be the case with this game.

Apparently if Disney is putting that image out there they have no problem with it. And none of us can say with any certainty what Walt would or wouldn't have liked. Sorry, but it just bugs me when people use that as a way to bolster their argument for any point of view.

Walt was fine with Mickey committing suicide (http://i25.tinypic.com/108d99u.jpg) (In fact, it was his own idea) and Donald killing Goofy (http://i31.tinypic.com/25styww.jpg), so I think he would be OK with the Epic Mickey video game

Well as I added to my first post I will add it again here. I am "reserving" judgement until I see the game because they can do almost anything with it at this time.

When I said I dont THINK Walt would like it that was just my opinion. You dont have to agree. I could be wrong or you could be. We will never know so does it really matter? Nope

I cant say I will definatly hate or like the game because I havent played it. Based on what I saw at first I was taken a bit by suprise but I have changed my tune and opened my mind a bit and decided to wait and see what its like when it comes out . After all I love The KH games as I said and maybe the game will come across to me in a way that the concept art didnt .

While I guess I have my own idea of what Disney should do ( I unlike "certain" ( not all) people in here ) "respect" that others might have other ideas. And thats cool. And hey maybe I am wrong and the game will be awesome and I will regret what I said. But I guess I was not into the idea of first because I always associate Disney and Disney video games with kids and its not. Its adults as well and I didnt consider that. Hopefully it will be marketed tastefully and done tastefully. But I cant even guess yet because they can do almost anything with that story line based on what we have seen. There is no way of knowing.

So right now I will just be curious to see where it goes.

I'm really looking forward to this game, and I hope they do end up releasing it. I don't think it looks like the sort of thing that most young children should be playing - but I am definitely intending to get it for myself. Anyone who thinks it's not appropriate for their kids (or for themselves ;)) shouldn't get it for their kids or for themselves.

As for the Walt thing - given some if the things he was okay with (like the Mickey suicide thing, for example) I think it's entirely possible that he would have thought it was fine. Unfortunately it doesn't matter what he would have thought. He isn't coming back and no one should ever base a decision on what he would have done, because no one can ever know for sure how he would have felt about anything. The only thing that matters now is if the Disney Company is willing to allow it. Assuming they are, then it will matter what the public thinks. If they release this game and there's a huge outcry over it and no one buys it, they probably won't allow such a mature/dark Diisney game again. If it sells well then maybe there will be more of this in the future. Since I think there isn't enough focus on teens and adults when it comes to Disney products and entertainment, I'm hoping for more of this sort of thing.

I'm not really into video games, but this looks like the coolest concept art that I have ever seen for one. Kids can handle a lot more than their parents think they can. I'm sure that most kids have seen a lot more disturbing imagery just by watching commercials for horror movies. As for if Walt would like it, who knows? I think that he would love it. He was always including dark imagery in his films. Check out the Night on Bald Mountain sequence in Fantasia. Or, watch the Legend of Sleepy Hollow or even most of the princess movies. Disney has always used gothic art in its media. They even created a concept for a theme park that was supposed to go at WDW called Dark Kingdom. This has been called the "villain" park, but it would also feature the darker elements of Disney films. Will they build this park in the future? Possibly, they say that ideas never die at Disney.

I can't stand to play Kingdom Hearts (I can't do the whole RP switch items thing... not my style) but I LOVE to watch my DW & DS play it. They have, of course, beat all the KH games, so I've heard the pre-fight intros before each boss over and over. Kingdom Hearts actually has some pretty dark scenes and images. My DW pre-ordered KH2, and we now have every KH game made including the ones on gameboy or whatever.

My suspicion is that those aren't intended to actually be Mickey and Goofy. Disney has always been really protective of the images of their major characters; even in Kingdom Hearts they had strict rules about how the characters were expected to act/look. I'm guessing those are some sort of automotons that look like the characters. Maybe the "real" Mickey and Goofy will be fighting against those things. Or maybe the main character will be expected to get rid of those imposters. I can imagine a scene where the real characters have been kidnapped and these things have been left in their place, and you have to defeat these things and then go rescue Mickey and Goofy.

Of course I could be wrong and you could be right - those could actually be intended to be the real characters. But automotons and "retro-futuristic" gadgets are popular in the steampunk style, so that's what I'm going with for now. I'm looking forward to finding out for sure when the game comes out!

You know.. that makes perfect sense! Because I agree that Disney always has been up careful how they will let the characters be portrayed. They had strict rules for Kingdom Hearts Mickey. That would maybe explain the images we saw. Because aside of that I would have to say I would be shocked that Disney that was so strict with the characters in the past would allow it otherwise.

Good call. I will be very curious to see how they handle it.

Some gameplay and story info has been released.

Mickey is the main character in the game. The other lesser known Disney characters are jealous of Mickey and want revenge. However, it is weird in the case of the robo-Goofy. It is possible there are imposters also posing as the characters through the game. I am sensing that Oswald may be the main villain as he is the most obscure and Mickey stole his thunder. Concept art did make mention of Oswald in the form of a spaceship with OSW-15 and a picture of the rabbit.

Gameplay is reminiscent of Okami where you have a paint brush and will paint through the environments, and even alter the landscape. Hence, the Wii platform and not the other 2.

It's a style that had it's origin in some novels, I think. I'm sure someone else could explain it better than me. But basically it takes place in times when the steam engine was widely used (like Victorian times) and has futuristic elements. . . sci-fi touches or technology in a time period where it doesn't belong. So it's kind of a retro-futuristic style, if that makes sense. Tomorrowland sort of has that feel to it, to me at least. And so did the Timekeeper, when it was still in Tomorrowland.

So is there any actual status updates on this game? Because I remember hearing about it when the first article was released.

Oh wow....this looks pretty interesting!

Kingdom Hearts was pure gold, so I'm willing to bet that this will be as well. Plus, this looks like Disney's way of trying to hit that teen/adult male demographic that they have so much trouble with. I tihnk this could be good!:goodvibes

Besides, the game doesn't have a rating yet. I'm sure that Disney wouldn't approve an M rating. I'm expecting this to be a T at the most.
