Just got back last night from 10 days at AKL. I would be happy to answer any questions regarding driving down and back or anything about transportation while there!

We're driving down from Chicago next week. Any construction delays? Also did you stop for the night? And finally, how long did it take you to get there.

Thanks. GW

Hi Goofyswife,
Let's see, on the way down we drove straight thru. We left Thursday night at about 10 pm and arrived at AKL at 5:00 pm on Friday. There was really NO traffic at night. We took 75 straight down. Make sure you do the West bound bypass around Atlanta and also the by-pass around Macon (much quicker). If you do drive at night my only caution is the big trucks in the mountains. Stay out of their way!!! On the drive home, it took much longer. We left AKL at 8:30 a.m. and made it to Corbin KY by 9:30 pm. LOTS of traffic going home. We left Corbin (Southern end of KY) at 6:30 am and made it home within 7 hours. Traffic Sunday wasn't too bad. We left at night thinking the kids would sleep thru and my 3 yr old did. My 8 yr old couldn't sleep very well. I would probably leave early morning again and stay the night somewhere though. Both kids were SO good I just couldn't even beleive it!!!! We do have a TV in the van which was just a godsend too! There really is any bad constrution delays. We were delayed on the way home in GA near Tifton for about an hour and a 1/2 for no apparent reason. Just TONS of traffic. Hope this helped.

Hi Jerry,
Same question my husband asks over and over!!!! I don't fly well, never did. It takes me 3 valium to get on an airplane and that doesn't even put me to sleep and doesn't help me very much! It truly was not a bad drive at all! My kids got to see some other states (never have before because we ALWAYS fly). I will fly again.....not sure when but I will. We go to WDW about every 6 months or so, so we'll see where I stand then. My husband is going to Colorado next week and I won't go because I won't fly and he won't drive!! I know the entire story about flying being much safer than driving but that is what I HAD to do this time!!! We'll see next time.

I applaud you for driving that far, esp. with kids. I'm from Mich. also, and could never do it. A drive to Cincinnati puts me over the edge.
