I'm planning a trip for my friend and she is using my DVC points for her room. She has two kids who are under 3. If she gets the dining plan, she does not have to get the dining plan for the kids. But she is wondering if she can purchase the plan for the two year old and not the one year old. Is that allowed or does she have to purchase the plan for both kids? The one year old will not really be eating much food.

TIA!

She would have to buy the 2 yr old a park ticket and make her 3 on the reservation as you can only purchase the Dining Plan for guests 3+.

The kid's meals at CS places are under $5. At buffets and family style dining the 2 and 1 yr old can eat for free. The kid's TS meals are usually $6-$7 depending on where you dine.

Some of the CS meals are quite large and can easily be shared.

I shared the 1/2 chicken meals with my 4.5 yr old niece last year and there was enough food for both of us.

I'm sure it would work out cheaper to just buy kid's meals as needed. At the CS places you can add a snack credit and get some fruit, yogurt or other item to make the meal larger if needed.

The other poster was not correct. You probably know your friend does not have to buy a ticket if she adds the 2 yo to the dining plan. I've done this, but to keep things simple, I just list the 2 yo as a 3 yo because some CM will do it w/ a 2 yo while others tell you you can't. The only problem staying on a DVC reservation (or any other reservation), is not to exceed room capacity. For example we are in a 1 bedroom at BWV in October. It is 4 adults and a 2yo. We could not get the dining for the 2 yo because with 4 adults we are at capacity. So if making your little one 3 yo and you are within the capacity level of your room, then it should not be a problem. We always add the little ones because they do not like our food choices, so no sharing for us. But paying OOP is not a big deal either as the kids meals are very affordable, plus you can buy a la carte and not the entire meal for the kids.

We took our son to his first Disney trip at age 2 and my husband and I were on a dinning plan. All the buffets my son was free. When we ate in a couple of TS we ordered food for him OOP but sometimes we were not charged. We had no problem on OOP his TS food but as I said a couple of TS they did not charged him for the food so we gave the server a bigger tip. I would just pay out of pocket for TS and have the 2 kids split the food.
