Today's my P-Day, WISHers! My presentation about WISH

That’s PRESENTATION day! :scared1: Tonight for FIVE minutes I’ll stand on stage at “ignite Raleigh” (http://igniteraleigh.com/2009/08/04/what-you-need-to-know-if-you-are-attending-igniteraleigh/) before 500 people in a tiny little downtown theater and talk a bit about the the WISHers and the Disney Deads and making my marathon dream come true as 20 slides auto-advance every 15 seconds behind me.

For those 500 people in attendance, there will be 100 seats, 75 barstools -- and alcohol served. Hummmmm… At least I’m the third presenter and not the 15th!

I don’t know how I’ll do, but it will be videotaped, so I can point you to the video online afterwards.

In 5 minutes, I can’t possibly do justice to you all -- I had a lot of lofty goals in the beginning, but I quickly realized 5 minutes is only enough time for what my co-workers refer to as an "elevator speech" -- similar to what you'd tell someone who ran beside you for 5 minutes on the marathon course. And in the 5 minutes I had to include info about a Web 2.0 concept and tie that idea in! But the presentation does include links to the web so folks can find out more about the WISHers afterwards if they are so inclined. And there are photos of you. (More WISH photos than Dead photos, because all my photos are of the Scream Teamers.)

It’s a very different kind of public speaking. Because the slides advance so quickly, if you hesitate, stumble, or “lose your place” for a few seconds, it’s pretty obvious, and you can easily get out of sync with your presentation slides. I’ve rehearsed many times, but I have yet to give the same spiel twice because recovery forces you to drop some material from one slide when you “flub” another. And there will be 500 folks milling around imbibing alcohol while I’m presenting. Yikes!

Send some pixie dust my way. I’m prepared, but really nervous. I’ll be curious to know what you think my “main point” is after you’ve seen the presentation. I hope I don't disappoint you.

Just wanted to report that (no surprise) Wendy was awesome!!!!! :banana:

Her presentation really rocked and it was well received by everyone in the audience. There were 10 finalist presentors and 5 guest speakers. We stayed for 8 and, of those, Wendy's was hands down the best!

We got there super early and had a great spot up front and then opted to move up to the balcony to get a better photo angle. It was probably a bad call because our photos came out very bad. I will post them tomorrow, but I warn you, they are not good.

Jackie and Bill were also there and sat with us. I think I may have spotted Stacey and her hubby, but I'm not sure. I was looking for WISH shirts, but I was the only one wearing it. (John carried his.)

I hope she is able to post a link to the presentation tomorrow so you all can see how fabulous she was. Plus, I gotta admit, this was the first time I ever saw our Miss Wendy with make-up and she looked gorgeous!

So, I made it home in one piece.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you one thing I said -- I was terrified. But folks kept laughing, and I think that was a good sign.

It's a good experience facing your fears. I think that's half the reason the marathon appeals to me so much -- there is always that element that is COMPLETELY out of your control, you never really know how things will turn out. Tonight was like that.

Thanks for all the pixie dust! I got interviewed by the news folks and lots of folks hugged me and told me I did great, so I think all that positive energy worked. Honestly, there were so many great speakers, though. I hope I said enough about WISH to make them interested.

Sounds like it went great Wendy. I know we have not ever officially met but to me you are one of the most recognizable energies out on the race course. I distinctly remember you blowing by me in California Adventure last year with a big smile on your face. It sounds that energy I recognize carried over into your presentation and since that is the case I know it was a success without even seeing the video. Though I am still looking forward to seeing it. ;)

DH and I were there last night (full disclosure - we only stayed for the first 4 presentations, since Wendy's was the 3rd), and she did GREAT! The first presenter was okay, but she inserted "um" into every phrase, and her topic was only moderately interesting. The second guy was prepared, but boring. Then Wendy took the stage, and the entire mood of the evening changed! The crowd was completely into it (and the place was packed), and everyone cheered and applauded many times. The pictures were fabulous - Jeanne and John and Bill and I were tickled to see ourselves at the Half water stop last year (I know the people around us were confused! :confused3) We were thrilled to be a part of the WISH team, and Ignite Raleigh.

As I told EVERYONE with whom I spoke -- I had a great topic. The energy, camaraderie, team spirit, etc., etc. of the WISH team makes for a great presentation. All I had to do was deliver. You have provided so much inspiration. I really think it's the online groups like ours that make the world a better place by changing one life at a time. Wouldn't you agree?

Funny you should mention high-fiving because my absolute FAVORITE photos from my presentation is the "set" with the WiSH scream team on Main Street at the MK disolving into Lily high-fiving them -- It makes me tear up to even type about it. What awesome images!!! Thanks, Carrie! For that matter, I OWE many WiSHers big time for all the GREAT photos they sent. :worship::worship::worship:

ABsolutely awesome Wendy!!! Gave me goose bumps adn has me in WISH race withdrawl. I feel honored that you used my pix, but I would have loved it even if you didn't.

Those pix are special faves, because that was the day we started with some WISHer's dh and finished with our new friend Tim (Sandy321's dh). Walking to the start with him the next day was just another great WISH moment.
