i don't recall seeing this anywhere besides the PI thread, maybe, but Starabilias closed on Friday at DTD.
I'm my own source. I work next store to it at Planet Hollywood On Location.

Yeah, this was posted earlier on the PI thread. It was not a surprise considering the huge discount sale they had a few months ago and then no longer being listed on the latest DTD Guidemap.

I am due in Disney in October, and the only things I liked about the place were Starabilia, the Virgin Megastore, and Disneyquest. I have done about all of Disneyquest I want to, so that was off the list for this year - and the closure of the other two means bye bye to Downtown Disney for me in 2009. <Although I might be tempted by any gigs at the HOB>

Just about the same here, no Virgin, no Starabilias... two of my fave places. (I mean who wants a blinking Diana dress shop for God's sake?) DTD is rather dead now to what it was 15 years ago when I first went.

Yay! another store gone. Personally, we don't think they ever should have gone ahead with that whole "West Side" idea. {some of the stuff out there is/was a bit exotic} Should have left PI just the way it was, and gone no further. And I know your gonna hate me for this one, Bob, but they should have stopped the whole DTD thing at the end of the Princess Lilly. It was such a serene area originally.
I know, PI fans did not want serene. BUT, I wonder, if Ei$ner never went ahead with the DTD/WS expansion, would Church Street have stayed a viable place for business? I realize that he wanted to take every bite out of the pie that he could, but still, picture the original Market Place. ........ {Sigh:guilty:}

I don't hate ya. Had PI never been built, we would never have known what we're missing. But they did so now we do know. And I think the WS is a viable place but the things that made it unique are slowly disappearing.
Zulemara reports that he's heard rumors that the Harley store is moving to the Starabilias space. Interesting if true because if they move Curl too, that vacates the entire building and then it can meet the bulldozers. I also had a Blog reader write me asking if the rumor is true that House of Blues might be leaving WS. That was a new one to me and would be a real surprise because they seem to be doing well. But as the last real dance club in DTD, could Disney be interested in non-renewing them?

Hmm. Seems like they are hell-bent on getting rid of the last remnants of PI. I guess as usual, time will tell. And come to think of it, we actually did enjoy the Advnturers Club and the Comedy Club. {we were never dancers} Then again, guess ya' gotta go with, "who knows what evil lurkes in the heart of Disney"

ugg. we LOVED going to that store. There really isn't Anything worth doing at DTD anymore. What can they possibly be thinking???
My DW and I never really did the "club" scene, but we do enjoy a night or two each vacation without the kids - and would sure like to do something besides eat and buy chinese made Disney plastic stuff......
