Hi,

Thanks for all the information posted on the boards. I booked accommodation at the POR for April 21-26 2010, yesterday.

DD 11 :goofy: will be celebrating her 12th birthday on the trip.

After reading so many different opinions, I decided to wait and book park tickets and make a decision on a dining plan closer to the date.

This will be the first trip to USA for three of us, DD16 :tigger: visited Montana & Ohio a couple of years ago with her choir. We are planning on spending 10 days in NY before heading to Orlando, for another 10days.

We are currently waiting for 'good' air-flight deals to be released from Aus to USA, to book our flights.:hourglass

What are you planning to see in NY?

Thank you for the welcome Aliceacc. Our plans so far for NY include Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the State Library, and the NY Public Library (to visit the original Winnie the Pooh) a broadway show (top of the list is currently Mary Poppins).

We also want to go to Brooklyn and visit some flea markets. DD16 also wants to visit Colombia University.

So far most of our focus has been on planning the WDW side of the trip. I notice from your counter you will be on vacation from tomorrow. Enjoy!

Welcome. How lucky to be on such a long vacation, but I think I would do the same if I was traveling that far from home. I went to NY this past spring. Only went for 3 days. Crazy place. Saw everything I wanted to see, except a play! Have fun!

!

I would also include the Statue of Liberty/ Ellis Island, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Ground Zero if you're interested (I have no plans to see it, ever, but many people disagree there) the Intrepid Museum, the Museum of Natural History and the South Street Seaport.

:welcome:

We stayed at POR last Sept. and will be staying there this Dec. It is a nice resort. The ferry to DTD is nice. Also, Yehaa Bob is alot of fun. He is at the River Roost which is right off the lobby. I believe he is there Wed. - Sat.
If you would like extra info on POR this is a very helpful site:http://www.portorleans.org/

Happy trip planning! Planning is half the fun! :thumbsup2

Alice.....Have a great vacation! :tink:

Thank you for your welcomes and suggestions on places to visit.

Three weeks may seem like a long time - we wish it could be more, but we needed to schedule around school breaks.

From reading the threads, I think it would be great to visit DW for Halloween. I am sure a dream of a lot of Aussie kids to spend Halloween in the USA.

Welcome aboard!

NYC to WDW... talk about a change in cultures! You are doing them in the right order New York first then Disney. Don't be put off by the NY attitude. I grew up outside of NY and though people may look grouchy and not smile they can be some of the most helpful people in the country. Yes, Yes! See a production on Broadway - there's nothing like seeing a show there.:dance3: We saw Mary Popins and it was GREAT - well worth the price of the tickets.

You are going to love WDW :cloud9: - the crowds are a little crazy but it is just wonderful:cheer2:.

I hope to make it to Australia in 2012 (once the kids can make the trip) and we can get together the money.

Thanks for the hint, NY is baffling, I am currently looking for accommodation that fits within by budget. The order of our trip was determined by my youngest daughters birthday falling on the last day of our vacation - she decided to spend it in DW. Mary Poppins is definitely on the top of our list, though we have heard it will be opening in Sydney, so we may change our plans.

I hope you make it here in 2012 - there are some amazing sights to see. :)

Welcome from another Aussie. You will have an absolute ball. And its nice to find others with a similar interest. I find it so hard to find other aussies that have an interest in Disney. I love coming here just to get my Disney fix.
You'll find WDW a difficult place to go to just once. We thought our last trip was our once in a lifetime. And here we are, less that 2years and we are going back again.

Hello fellow Aussies! I am a long time lurker of these boards.
My family and I went to Disneyland in September/ October 2007. I had last been there in 1980 and wow what changes. We had the most fantastic holiday ever!
We are now planning our Disneyworld Holiday for September 2010. I have always wanted to visit Disneyworld and am looking forward to Epcot the most.
I think of our trip as a once in a lifetime but after reading these boards feel I might get hooked very easily!
Thanks to all the Disers who are a wealth of information in helping me plan my trip.:)

Hi Princess Belle - yes the Dis Boards are quite addictive - I love reading everyone's trip reports. I was completely 'bamboozled' by the 'whole' world of Disney - but this site has helped so much (right down to picking out which side of the Port Orleans resort we would stay based on the photos someone posted with masks hanging over the diner - they scared my youngest DD).

Have fun on your upcoming trip - let me know if you are doing a trip report so I can read it.

Hi Cairns Girl,
Do you live in Cairns? My oldest daughter travelled to the USA a few years ago with her choir - they had one and a half days at the end of their trip in DL where they performed. I suggested to my youngest DD, they we go and meet her at DL. Her answer 'no - I would prefer to go to the Barrier Reef' - So while oldest daughter was at DL - we were in Cairns, exploring the reef - seeing the real Nemo! It really is an amazing part of the world.

Enjoy your trip planning!

I am or at least will be a Disney newbie. Booked our first trip to the world for Sept 2010. I totally agree that this Disboard has given me some great info :disrocks:

Hi and welcome to the boards! I'm sure you will have a wonderful time in both NY and at WDW! I see you plan on spending 10 days in NYC, and I see you have a DD11, she might enjoy a visit to the American Girl store (and your DD16 might even think it is cool) :).

Hi Toy Story! Yes I do live in Cairns and it is an great place to live. :)We try to do a Great Barrier Reef Trip every couple of years.
There is a mention of the American Girl store which we visited in Los Angeles in 2007. My daughters were 17 and 21 and still loved seeing all the dolls and girly things. Have a great trip!
