I just bought a large summer tote, and thought it would be great for the plane if I could use it as my purse. Along with my backpack, it would eliminate the need to check a bag. Do you think it would be a problem?

The only restrictions are that it be small enough to fit under your set. see the web site for your airline for restrictions.

US Airways says your personal item (purse, etc) has to have an overall total size of less than 36 inches. Then you can take your standard size carryon (to fit under the seat or in the overhead bin).

Thanks for the advice. USAirways lists acceptable "personal items" on their website, though it took a little searching. This tote is smaller than a diaper bag, which is acceptable, so we should be okay.
Thanks again!
