I have been curious about this for a little while, and I wondered about other people's thoughts/observations. I have been wondering how many people listen to the Podcast but are not on the boards, and what the ratio is of DISers to non-DISers. I have noticed that everyone who writes in gives their board name, but I figured that there has to be several who are not on the boards.
I am sure that this has been mentioned on the Podcast before, but I only remember shy DISers like me being encouraged to participate and become part of the community. I did not really hear anything about non-DISers. Do they just not write in? Do they write in but are not read? How many people on the Podcast cruise were not DISers?

What is a DISer, exactly?
I have been listening to the podcast since fall 2007.
To the left, it says I joined in April 2008. But that was just for planning for a December 2008 trip. I did not participate in the discussion boards in any way.
Through the listening to the podcast, I learned about and signed up for the Toy Story Midway Mania Meet.
I only started particpating in the discussion boards in spring of 2009.
So count me a DIS listener turned DIS board particpatant.

I was a listener for several months before posting for the first time. I actually had no intention of actually joining the boards until a friend was planning her honeymoon and had a question I couldn't answer. Look where that got me!
Another great example is my fellow correspondent, Tony. His first post came after we started doing segments for the show.
Pretty good proof that being only a listener is definitely appreciated!

Technically, the same thing happened to me. :thumbsup2
I just don't know if there are people out there who have no plans of joining the boards who listen to the Podcast. I also want to know how many non-DISers write in. I am not in any way disparaging how we treat these people or anything. It was mostly a curiosity question.

I didn't know that about Tony. I'm starting to get a good idea now.

First, I was a lurker for about 4 months.
Then, I was a DIS poster for about 2 weeks.
Finally, I found the podcast. Glad I did.:goodvibes
Haven't slowed down yet.

You know I bet a lot.
I personally was a diser first and then started listening, close to the beginning. Then I went back to work and could listen but not be on the boards at work. Now I am back to both again :lovestruc or until I find a job again! :lmao:

I'm sure there are quite a lot of non-posters listening to the podcast.
Personally, I listen to several Disney podcasts but do not participate on their corresponding discussion boards.
I listened to the DIS Unplugged for quite a long time before I ever posted anything. Even then- it was only on the DCL boards as we were preparing for our first ever cruise. Only since maybe this past spring have I really ventured into the podcast boards.
We are going on PCC 2.0 because 1.0 sounded like so much fun, and we already had ressies through Dreams for the Magic sailing that same week. Once the PCC dates were announced- we just moved our ressie to the Wonder! Since we are going with the group on this board, I have been hanging around trying to get to know more people, learn the stories, etc. before we sail. popcorn::
I am sure there will be many people on PCC 2.0 who have never been on the boards.
But I would include anyone who listens OR posts to be a DISer. I don't think you have to be active on the boards.

I was a listener for a short time before I came to the boards. Then it took me a little more time to actually post. I love how everything can stand on it's own, but it is much better all together :)

I found the DISboards in June 2008 while researching my October 08 trip. I Lurked for about 4 weeks before I joined and posted my first post. I clicked the podcast link out of curiosity more than anything, and I was immediately hooked then I began listening to the archives. I continued to listen after my trip though I dropped off the boards for a few months, before I began reading them again this past spring.

I personally know 2 people who are just listeners, but don't come to the boards. They are Disney fans who just enjoy the show, but don't do discussion boards. And I was on the boards for a couple years before I started listening to the podcast.

I have listened to all the DIS Unplugged Podcasts and have lurked on the boards for years, but didn't post on the boards until last week, when I booked the 2.0 podcast cruise. I'm really lo-tech, so still trying to figure out avatars and signatures and such.

I joined the boards almost 10 years ago, when they were fairly new. Of course the podcast didn't exist then. But I only started listening this last year or so to the podcast, I didn't even know about it. My sister turned me onto it. I typically only lurked, but occassionally posted on the theme park, dining or resort boards. Obviously my mere 2000 post count in a 10 year time shows what a lurker i was! Now you can't keep me away. :confused3:rotfl::rotfl2:
<-----1999 join date! lol

I've been listening to the podcast for nearly two years, and lurking the boards for maybe a year and a half, and have only very recently started posting here.
I've never emailed or called in to the show, but now that I've started forcing myself to be less shy here I might. So maybe people who don't post, also don't email in, making it seem like only DISers get read on the show.

I started posting on the DIS in January or February 1999. (August 1999 is the earliest date anyone has because of some board changes.) I have listened to ONE Podcast, and I think it was last year some time! I post on the Podcast board because I booked the 2010 Podcast cruise, and because I'll be at WDW during DAP.

Oh, my! I never imagined that people were “board only” people.
I really enjoy the banter of the podcast crew. I listened to the podcasts for a long time before I realized that there were also online discussion boards.
I also did not realize for a while that the podcast team was from a travel agency and that the online presence and the podcast were really in support of the business of the travel agency. And I mean that in only the best way. The business model works well in integrating the travel agency with information resources.

I'm sure there are many board-only people - but the majority probably don't post on the Podcast board!

Count me as another who just came to the boards. I have been listening to the podcast for 7 or 8 months but just signed up to the boards last week. Glad I did though it's a lot of fun here!:thumbsup2
