Here it is! The new thread for the new month. I am very sorry for being late with this. Part of it was trying to think of a decent name of the thread. (Hope this is ok) The other part of it is just not being home very much with work and such. It is soooo hard to believe that we have already entered the 8th month of the year. This year is flying by!
Great news for a lot of the ones here! School starts back this month for most of us. This means the kids will be going back to school and not eating us out of house and home while they are at home. :rotfl2: Seriously though, this should be a great time for us to be able to get some extra training done and maybe even start training for any races that are on the horizon.
Please, don't be a stranger around here. Come on back and post as often as you can. Let's get as much interaction as we can to keep up the intensity and the fun!
I look forward to having a fantastic month here with the DUCKS!!!!!!!

Well I am gearing up for more training coming up starting the week of Aug 17th so I should be once again adding miles for the team. Sorry for being a slacker over these last few months. I have gotten out and done a few miles here and there but I slacked on writing them down and it wasn't anything of significance. All that is about to change since I have committed myself to doing the Goofy. I will be running for a charity called The Rally Foundation or Rally Athletes for Childhood Cancer Research. I should be getting a website tomorrow and it will have the Rally Kid I will be running in honor of. His name is Andy and he is 8 years old. He was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma at age 1. I figured I might as well "use" the challenge of doing the Goofy to help out a worthwhile cause. I am really excited about this (well not so much the training part of it - actually I am dreading it already) the joy of doing what I can to help out sick kids out weighs the months of training and the bling bling bling doesn't hurt either.

Spreadsheet is updated.
I didn't do much on my vacation, but did do a sprint tri this past Sunday and got 3rd in my AG. Run still my weakness, but I'm hoping Goofy training will help with that. Today was our 48th day over 100 degrees this summer. I'm not acclimated since I travel so much. It's tough.
Life has got me down lately.:sad1: I'll try to keep up. Sorry.
Will post my miles/minutes later.
Glad to see my buddy Big Vic back on the board with some training! hugs to you.

Hello Ducks, welcome to August. I think August 1st is like the Wednesday of summer.
My miles for the firat week is 15 hours and 260 miles, 40 of which is double 20 that I did for a race. Bryan, thanks for the kind words in the other post. I am lucky to have a job and workplace that makes biking to work a pleasure. I am more impressed with all the miles that everyone is doing just running, being that running is not one of my strong points. Rich, running 45 miles along with a case of food poisoning? Keep up the good work, everyone!
Hope everyone has a great week!

Augie My pleasure!!
Rhonda, Kira, Vic, Sharon, Jenn, Tricia It is really great to hear from all of you! You are all such wonderful teammates. Hope everything is going great for all of you!!
My Update Last week was a little low in mileage for me as I was doing more walking/running than normal. Just making sure I still have some runner's legs for my 5k on Saturday. I have found out that I don't which scares me a little. Race will probably be slower than I want it to be. Not happy about that at all. But we will see.

Just wanted to check in while I have a chance. I don't have anything to report for the first week of August but I am happy to say I will have something to report for the 2nd week (is that right Aug 8-14?) its not much yet but I am in pre-Goofy training mode. I am actually not too scared of my training plan - just hope its enough to get me through all 39.3 and that I am actually able to stick to it - I know it was tough to stick with the marathon plan last year especially during the month of December.
Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Tuesday. Stay cool in the heat.

Hello Ducks! Here we are at the halfway point of the month already. My time and mileage for the week of Aug 8th to the 14th is 13 hours, 15 minutes, and 205 miles. I had a nice ride on Thursday, rode to Rhode Island from the New London ferry to visit my son at scout camp, which was a 60 mile round trip. Nice ride but a little wet, there were periods of rain throughout the day.
I will be doing some running in the upcoming weeks, I just entered a duathlon which will be held in Central Park in September. It is a 2 mile run, then two loops of Park drive for 12 miles on the bike, and then another 2 miles to run.
Hope everyone has a great week!

I'm starting to do trip planning for January. I know there's a meet at Pop Century. Do WISHers meet at other times, too? I would love to stay at the Poly. DGF went to WDW once with her high school orchestra. She remembers it being very clean. I have been to WDW over 20 times as an adult. I cannot wait to share it with her. She's not a theme park fan and doesn't ride roller coasters.
I am just plodding along logging miles right now. Coming from a non-running life, it feels great! My plan begins in October. I hope to find other MfM half plan people. Comparing notes should help. I'm running three miles three times a week. I have started adding some faster intervals. It does not yet rise to the point of being "speed work". I am so slow. It has to help. Has to.
I'm starting to think about the big day. I've started running with my little ESPN Club fanny pack. I've been trying Gu and Clif Shots. Yuck! Nothing new on race day!

Hey Ronda! Great job plugging along. That's what I'm doing as well. I'd suggest trying Gu Chomps. They're gummy 'candy' with all the same nutrients as the gu gels. MUCH easier to get down than the gels. I'll be bringing a bunch with me in January to run with. Intervals will definitely help. I've only done them 3 or 4 times so far and i do notice a difference in my long runs.
Not sure about other meets but I know there are a bunch. I'll have friends with me so sadly I'm not sure how many of the meets I'll be able to attend, if any! :(

Hi, Ducklings!!
I am so sorry I have been absent. Maybe I really need you guys. Thanks for the hugs. Been working a lot, stressing about some stuff, and heart is a little wounded...can't seem to figure that one out just yet. I'm trying to not let any of that bring me down, but I am the queen of being hard on myself (dang, I sound like Bryan...except the queen part!;) ). So....it's REALLY time to get back on track. Goofy is going to get here quick, and I don't want to show up this year not trained. And healthy.
So....
The spreadsheet is updated as far as what I have right now.
I still need to get my own totals together and will post and add them in. But you are accounted for, and as a team, we have moved over 15000 miles! That's huge!

Hi Ducks, hope everyone is coping with the heat of August, it has been pretty warm here the last week or so. Makes me think about my plan to retire to FL....
Betsy, hope things are looking up for you!
I have some miles and minutes to report, including double miles for a 10 mile time trial. My 22 minutes won the C group, but the top guys in the A group all had sub 20 minute times. For the 15th through the 21st I had 11.5 hours, and 201 miles.
I will have some big miles next week, I signed up for a ride from Manhattan to Montauk, which they say will be 145 miles. The good thing, once again, will be the presence of the local brewer at the end. They will also be open at around the half way point, but I think I will pass on that and save it for the end.
Have a good week, everyone!

Still in the doldrums, but starting to ramp up my running. Did my 3rd tri of the month yesterday. Felt like I ran better than I have been, but no podium this week. Darn, but the execution was good, so I can't complain.
Still need to get *my* training logs together, but the spreadsheet is updated for those who have posted.
I know I've been really absent...but wonder what we can do to get the board a little more active? Thoughts?
So happy for those of you with the weather better, esp in the south and midwest. Today will be day 64 of temps at 100 degrees or higher here. We are in a severe drought. My lawn is dying. Training is difficult. Hopefully, with the El Nino supposed to be developing for the fall, we'll get some needed relief.

Thanks SamSam! :) I totally agree, it's worth the extra money to get in shape and see results. In the long run it's only about $30 more expensive a month and I can easily spend that going out to dinner or drinks with friends. I can sacrifice one night out if I have to!

Good job, Jen! Keep us posted on how that is going! I seriously need to spend more time in the gym, doing strength work. You are inspiring me!
I got sick this week...darned summer cold! So took off 3 days in a row, but I think it worked, because I feel pretty good now. Will have a group workout with my tri team this evening. I did try Bikram yoga for the first time on Monday (probably didn't help the impending cold symptoms)...it was hard! And I'm having enough trouble with the heat outside, so adding more heat was difficult.
Augie...thanks.... sprint tris are fun for me...over quickly, and a good tempo workout. Will be shifting focus to the run from now through Goofy, with some biking as cross-training. Goal is to get through Goofy without getting an overuse injury, like I have tended to do in the past. One more sprint tri to go, in September.
Still finding my stuff to get totals posted up here....and looking for some more posts for the week ending Aug. 21! (ummm..Bryan, Liz? )

We could have used some August heat here yesterday. I registered for an event called The Ride to Montauk, not a race, just a ride to Montauk with several different starting points, 30, 66, 100, and 145. So, naturally I had to do the 145. It started at Penn Station in midtown Manhattan, and for once the weatherman had it right, when they predicted showers. More than 100 of the miles was done in the rain. Thankfully it stopped at the end, so we could enjoy our food and beer!
I did see a thread somewhere with team standings, it must have gotten bumped to the second page.
Only 19 weeks?
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hey Triple D's!!! I owe all of you an apology for being MIA recently. Things have been extremely crazy at work and things are also moving along with the personal situations so my stress levels have been thru the roof. I think about you all every single day. Just by the time that I get home at night, I have had so much negativity thrown my way that I don't want to bring it here so I stay away. Not a valid excuse but it is the truth. All I can say is that I am very sorry and I do love you all!
Here are my totals for the last couple of weeks. I will post again tomorrow for this week's totals.
Aug. 8-14
Miles - 55 (that is including my double miles for the 5k that I did)
Time - 9 hours
Aug. 15-21
Miles - 75
Time - 10.25 hours
On a side note, things have been slow here for a lot of people. I know most of us have kids in school and with that starting back, some things had to go on the back burner. I understand that totally. But I also know that most of us are planning on going to Marathon Weekend. That means it is time to start ramping up training for your perspective races. I would love to see some more posting going on around here letting us all know how you are doing for training. Who knows? Something that you say may be the spark that someone else needs to really kick it into gear. We all have the excuses. Let's get passed that and get to the motivation. Let's push passed the boundries that hold us back and get the miles in so we can have a fantastic time in January!!!! LET'S GO TEAM!!!!!!:yay::woohoo::cheer2::cheer2:

Hello Ducks!
I’ve been plugging along biking to work and running three times a week. I’ve chosen the MfM half plan. Just not sure if I can do all run. I may switch to the run/walk. Maybe a combination of run during the week and run/walk on the longer weekend runs. Just not confident that I can run more than four miles.
I ran in two local events this spring… a four mile and 5k. There is a local timed 10K that corresponds to my 6 mile run on the MfM plan (November 14). I want to do it to get more experience preparing and going through the nerves cycle. I expect it to be a hilly course given the county park location. I’m also doing it because, if memory serves, a decent 10K time could move me up in the Donald corrals.
So questions:
1. Sound idea to run an event as part of training?
2. What kind of 10K time will help my placement at WDW? What the corral to pace relationship?
3. Should I bother? My pace is currently around 12:30-13:00. I don't expect to get much beyond 12:00 by January.
I asked for a SPIBelt for my birthday. Looks like a great addition.
For the last week of August:

Hey Ronda! I asked the same question in a separate topic on the boards. i was told that to move up in corrals, you have to prove that you'll run a 2:45 half. I believe that means you have to run a 1:17 10k.
Here's the topic I posted:

Bryan you are right about ramping up the training. Marathon weekend will be here before we know it. I'm trying to get ready for the TOT 13k in October. This should be a good indication of where I stand on my training.
Anyway I wanted to share with all of you what I have been using as motivation. This past year my father has had four heart attacks, luckly he is still with us and is doing a little better. These were brought on by an unhealthy lifestyle. Never exercising, overeating, eating bad, etc. So I did a self analysis of my lifestyle and realized that I was on the same path that my father took. I decided that I wanted to be around to walk my little girl down the isle and do alot more with my beautiful wife. So i run, bike, weight train and eat better.

Here are the totals for the end of the month, 23 hours, and 365 miles. 10 of those hours were from the 'rain ride' on Saturday. I also will have to put more time in some running, with a few road races and duathlons coming up, my legs are not in running mode yet.
I have also completed the Cabot Cheese Vermont to Vegas Virtual Challange, where we have been logging time for walking, running, biking, and rowing since last May. They are going to do a return trip starting in November if anyone is interested. More info here:

Everyone have a great week!

Congrats on making the lifestyle change! I know how hard it can be. I'm almost in the same boat as you and have seen a few family members live unhealthy lifestyles and it makes you realize that you need to take care of yourself. Keep it up :)

The final week of August I got some good minutes and miles in. The weather was perfect and I did a little stationary biking to help the miles.
Can't believe it's September already; I love the fall. :goodvibes
Hours - miles for last week of August:

Ok so I apologize for being a slacker and not posting my times and miles. I looked back at the spreadsheet and realized I didn't post my miles for June, July or Aug (not that I got that much in but I am sure every little bit helps) so for June and July I will just give the monthly total (its not very much anyway so it doesn't make sense to break down into the weeks) but since Goofy training is going to start officially for me next Monday my miles are starting to slowly creep back up so I am reporting Aug by the weeks
June total - 11.2 miles 156 mins
July total - 6.1 miles 85 mins
Aug 1-7 - 2 miles 26 mins
Aug 8-14 - 7 mile 99 mins
Aug 15-21 - 6 miles 94 mins
Aug 22-31 - 13.7 miles 190 mins
As you can see my miles are creeping back up there but also my time has gotten SLOWER - hopefully I can get my speed back up to at least where it was for the marathon this year. I am hopeful though that there is still more than 18 weeks left before Goofy and it will hopefully be getting a little cooler down here in south Florida but I am not counting on it.
Good luck in Sept Duckies and I will make a point to try and stop in here

Hi, Ducks!!
Tricia--welcome back!!! You are all updated on the spreadsheet!
Big Vic...nice job building back into it! Can't wait to see you in January! I still get a chuckle about how I ran up to you at the marathon last year, since I recognized you from your pic. :goodvibes
AUDisneyDad...excellent motivation! You should be very proud of what you are doing and the example for your kids.
Augie...you're killin' me! I've been a bike slacker.
Ronda...I'm all for race experience. The 10K sounds like a good idea. Also, I have a spibelt, just to carry small stuff on a run (I usually don't like things on me)...it's come in handy since I travel a lot--can put in hotel keys and/or cell phones. plus a couple of gels if needed.
And....drum roll...guess what?! I finally came up with some totals for me for August! (and just realized I don't even have my last week of July..ugh). I am sorry I have been a slacker here. I think I got discouraged when several people stopped posting. :confused3 Also, I wasn't getting in a bunch of training, so I didn't really want to see my numbers. But it's time to get ready for marathon weekend...and I miss you guys!!!
So...for August, I had:
Aug. 1-7:
Bike: 13.5/1:00
Run: 3.8/0:55
Triathlon race: 0.3 mi swim/13.8 mile bike/3 mile run = 17.1 miles, doubled is 34.2 miles/1:35
Total for Aug. 1-7: 51.5 miles/3:30 hours
Aug. 8-14: This was a bad week training-wise, with much work stress. But I did do a triathlon that week, so some small doubled miles!
0.25 mi swim/9.2 mile bike/2.5 mile run = 12.05 miles, doubled is 24.1 miles/1:05.
Plus 10 min warmup run of about 1 mile.
Total for Aug. 8-14: 25.1 miles/1:15 hours
August 15-21:
Running only: 12.8 miles/2:30 hours
August 22-31:
Triathlon race: 0.2 mile swim (very short!)/14 mi bike/3.1 mi run = 17.3 miles, doubled is 34.6 miles/ 1:35
Bike: 14.7 miles/1:00
Run/walk: 7.1 miles/ 1:25
Yoga: 1:30
Total for Aug. 22-31: 56.4 miles/5:30 hours
yay!

Augie Your totals are amazing. Between you and Rich (and several others), I really feel like a bum But it is ok. It is actually motivating me to want to do more training. So let me say thank you for encouraging me to get back at it hard and heavy.
Betsy I am still around even though I haven't been posting as much as I would like. I will work on that and get back into the groove. I promise. Thank you for checking up on me. You're the best!!
My Totals For the last week of August, I had a pretty decent week. So here you go:
Miles - 105
Time - 11.25
Now we are in September. Let's get over to the new thread and start posting. There are a lot of people who will be training for upcoming races so let's be a little more active if we can and motivate each other during our time of training.
Thanks everyone!
