No Backs on the Chairs at CS

I don't remember Pecos Bill's ever having backs on their chairs. They've always had the square stool seats with cushions from what I have heard. We don't eat at many CS places, but definitely hit Pecos Bill's each trip. I have back problems and would be very uncomfortable without a back to my chair. That's always been the downside at PB's.

My mother, who tends to visit a CS once per day, would have a very difficult time. She has RA and AS, both in the back and spine, and would really have trouble. I find the fact that they're doing this absolutely ridiculous. Are they going to provide normal chairs for the disabled and those with medical conditions?

If Disney decides to do this at all CS places, I'll be writing a scathing letter to WDW and Disney corporate.

We have had backs on chairs at Pecos. We made sure to get the chairs and not the stools.

I don't see it as a big deal. I bought a backless chair for my office and it has helped my posture. I can sit in a chair with no back for the 10 minutes it takes me to eat. I do agree they need something for the guests with medical conditions but poor posture is not a medical condition.

I can see how it could be unsafe if you had a small child sitting on a backless chair it could lead to an accident or two I could see how it could possibly be unsafe.

I am less worried about the lack of something for me to lean on than the protection I will have from people running into me. If its crowded people try to squeeze through. With a chair back you have a little protection from them and whatever they are carrying. Without, you are an open target.

In December 2007, my wheelchair was custom designed for use at WDW. I had to laugh at this part of the show....because my wheelchair seat has a feature that can (as of now) be considered for WDW, in addition to the design features we planned.....my wheelchair has a removable back! :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Too funny!

I can still fit in at Quick Service locations. :rotfl2:

My concern has nothing to do with poor posture. I'm mainly concerned for those with medical conditions. This includes those who have balance issues and severe back problems like Rheumatoid Arthritis, AS, etc. Because of my back issues, sitting on a chair without a back for even a short period of time will cause me significant discomfort and could lead to pain for some time afterwards. This is not fair.

I'm also concerned about young children with specific handicaps that cause balance issues as well as toddlers who don't have the specific skills to keep them steady on a stool or chair. A back to a chair serves all of these needs.

In my opinion, Disney is going to get a lot of flack from this and deservedly so.

Please be sure to remove the back of the chair at quick service locations. Disney does not want you to be too comfortable or stay too long!

I was thinking this as well! In a bad economy, is it really worth the money right now on all new chairs? Couldn't that money be better spent elsewhere?

I don't know about everyone else, but I find this pretty silly. When I'm at a theme park having counter service, I just eat and I'm gone. I wanna get on more rides! I don't dawdle. That's just me, though.

And Disney should definitely have chairs with backs available for small children and people with medical issues. I'll be kind of shocked if they didn't take that into consideration.

I have another money making idea for them...why don't they just start blowing hot air throughout the parks and then only run the AC in the gift shops. ;)

I am in agreement with those againest this. My wife suffers from MS, and her biggest problem is weakness in her legs, and we use the CS for a quick meal and rest period, we don't spend a large amount of time sitting there, but the fact that it's a comfortable area she can relax and take some pressure off her legs and rest. Now that Disney has chosen to do this there are clearly not thinking of their guests or their needs and again seems that they are trying to get more money out of their guests by trying for more of a turn around. I am sure as Pete said in the podcast someone in a board meeting was sitting there and said "Bingo! if we take the backs off the seats then guest won't spend as much time in the CS they we can sell more food." What's next taking the backs off the benches so you don't waste time sitting around and get you back into a shop!!! If Disney goes through with this to completion, they are going to prove what they really care about and it's not guest comfort.

While I am apparently the only chairback agnostic person here I do agree that if they are just doing it to do it it is kind of a waste. I was going under that assumption that they were going to referb the place anyway and just chose to do so with the backless chairs.

I agree Nikki, I think I'll have to complain in some way too. Last December I had to find a place against a wall to rest my back against since I do have a bad back. After all the walking I don't mind saying I like to take a little rest while I have my lunch or whatever, and that includes my back! Plus, well it is going to be a problem for children who are squirmy and tired, which means it'l be a problem for the parents too. I think it's a dumb move on Disney's part, no matter how many guests they will say demanded it.
