View Full Version : Poor planning on my part adding the QSDP question...

Ok, so I totally realize this is my fault, just curious if anyone's got any advice. :rolleyes1

The quick question is, can anyone define "48 hours in advance" for adding the dining plan to a reservation? Is that midnight/midnight or 48 physical hours prior to check in, etc.

We're heading to WDW next Saturday (8/8), checking in on Sunday (8/9)... can't believe it's that close already, which is probably part of the problem. This is a last minute trip after work told me I couldn't have off in Oct. for my free dining/planned trip. No biggie.

I've got a room ressie and planned to add tickets and QSDP when I got my bonus check this week... unfortunately, it looks like bonus checks come out next Friday.

Will I be able to call down Friday morning after CRO opens and add the DDP/change to a vacation package for a check in on Sunday or will that be too late?

Thanks,

Mike

I thought "48 hours prior to arrival" was for DVC members...all others has to be 72 hours before arrival day...

maybe I'm wrong, but I swear that's what I remember.

Cat... I would defer to you being right. I was on DVC points last year and probably picked up 48 hours from that.

With that said, does anyone know how the 72 hours are calculated?

I believe you would have to have it added before midnight on August 6, if your checkin date is August 9. So it looks like you will have to have your reservation converted to a package before August 7. (It sounds like you have a room-only reservation since you don't have tickets. You can't add a dining plan to a room-only reservation - it has to be a package. Therefore you would have to convert your reservation to a package before midnight August 6, and pay the entire balance for room, tickets and dining plan at that time. Packages must be paid off at least 45 days before arrival.

I thought that if you added the DDP that late, you paid for it at check-in, not when you added it.

Again, I think that's the rule on a DVC reservation...pay at check in. For non-DVC the regular package rules apply (pay immediately if less than 45 days before arrival.)

Yep, I agree. That's for DVC. For CRO reservations, it has to be converted to a package and paid in full at time of changing. :sad1:

So, I guess my choices are to either delay the trip for a day or pay OOP for food. :confused3

Thanks for everyone's assistance.

I would go ahead and add the package and then call Disney the day before your package is due and let them know that you will be paying a couple of days late. I'm sure that they won't give you a problem.

That won't work, though. The package would need to be paid in full at the time the reservation/change was made.

Do you have a credit card? You could always make the change and charge the cost and then pay the credit card amount that you just charged when the bonus arrives. You KNOW you're getting a bonus and the exact date that you'll get it so it's not like you'd be taking a risk of carrying the amount as a balance.

Appreciate the thought, but, no, I'm an oddball in today's world and don't use credit cards. ;)

I thought about trying to book a split stay for Sunday and then Monday-Sat since I'll have my bonus on Friday, but I may just not worry about it.

Thanks for the help!
