My boys go back to school in 2 weeks!! I am so sad :sad2: I am not ready, summer was way to short.
I am probably being over dramatic since this is the first year I wont be working at their school, my job got cut and I am still waiting to hear if I have one. So a lot of emotions going (like how will I pay for Disney without a job) Did I mention my baby is in first grade!! :scared1:
But I still don't want to go back! :confused3

41 days!!!
I am very excited. This was my first summer without graduate school and I have been bored as anything! Because of where Labor Day falls this year, we're going back later than usual. The days are actually sandwiching my bday (which is Sept 9). Teachers go back on the 8th and kids on the 10th!

Well....I am sitting at my desk now <sigh> but officially I don't need to be back until the 17th.
I don't think I am ever to far away though......

Has summer started? It's been cold here...
Our girls go back to school the day after Labor Day - Sept. 8th. Very late this year, and all the camps are closed Aug 31 - Sept 4. So I don't know what we're doing that first week of September.

Regarding weather... we had one week of summer and that was pretty much it. Not good weather this year at all...
I head back to school on September 8th or 9th, but that's university. Not sure when the public schools head back in my area.

It doesn't feel to me like summer ever really started, between the weather here in Mass and all the work I have had to do it is hard to believe it is already the end of July and I haven't been to the beach once(ok twice but competing in a cardboard boat race doesnt count)

I second that! I actually cancelled a couple of vacation days because the weather has been so bad. i am hoping to take them in the fall instead maybe it will actually be nice.

My son goes back to school August 13th. I'm so not ready, but he's excited because he moves up to a different school [5th grade]. I suspect that excitement will last about one week after school starts.

I KEEP FORGETTING I GRADUATED COLLEGE. :faint:
seriously...i keep thinking, oh, when do i have to go...WAIT!! I'M NOT!!!!!!!!! :cool1: i went to college right after high school and spent 5 years there, so you can understand, this is quite an adjustment!!!
i am going to have to get a REAL job soon though, right now i'm just working in a seasonal position. so i guess my summer ends when that does, which i think is at the end of September.
the reality still hasn't hit yet though...I'M NOT GOING BACK TO SCHOOL THIS FALL!!!!!!!!! :yay: i'm going back eventually...just not yet!!!

The kids and I all go back to work/school on Aug.31. Even though the summer wasn't that great here in MA (weather) I did manage to do a lot with the kids. My DH is on vacation as of Fri and we have a lot of fun things planned for the next 2 weeks.
I am looking forward to this school year because my DD6 will be attending the same school I work in. I am looking forward to having her so close.:)
More importantly, I'm REALLY looking forward to getting paid again!!!!:rotfl2:

I'm a 2nd grade teacher and the 1st day of school is September 9th. We go back for inservices starting September 1st. No kids at home anymore, so I don't have to buy school clothes and supplies anymore!
I start getting a bit depressed right after the 4th of July when they start hauling out the school supplies in the stores. Honestly, does anyone think "Wow, it's now July 5th, I'd better hurry and get my pencils and crayons?!" I try not to watch the school commercials that are now flooding the TV. :rotfl:

Summer, what's that? :rotfl::confused3
since we don't have a school age child and neither of us are teachers, we don't even really know it is summer. i think teachers in TX go back in a few weeks here, but i could be wrong.
hope all of you that still have some summer time off enjoy it thoroughly!!! :thumbsup2:wizard:

Ugh...I have a week and a half. :scared: My first contract day is Aug. 10th, with my kids heading back on the 12th. My oldest son joins his big sis at my school this year for Kindergarten, though, so that will be exciting. Just the baby at home now... Between the cooler weather and the fact that my two grad classes just ended last week, I feel like there hasn't even BEEN a summer! I envy you, Nikki - I have two more years of this to go, since these were my first two classes. Bored sounds good right now... :rotfl:

Yes, summer weather has been a bummer here also. My parents are flying in tomorrow for our annual camping trip, and I called my mom last night to tell her tomorrow's high is going to only be 70 degrees :scared1:
Anywhoo, we are hoping it does get better between now and when the kids go back to school on September 8th. If not, we're heading to Ft. Myers in 3 weeks, hopefully they have better summer weather than us!

5th of October (I am at university in the UK, so we start pretty late, but don't get out until mid June). Some of my friends are studying at American Universities this year, and they leave for the US half way through August! Our Schools here don't go back until September, so it's really early for us!

Does summer end? I used to hate those last several weeks before the kids headed back to school. We finally were in a routine. I knew cold weather would be coming.
I am looking forward to 70-80 degree weather here.

Summer ???
This is our first week of summer temperatures. We have did not have our air conditioner on until about a week ago. I was just thinking this morning that I have not had one of those days yet where the heat and humidity make you miserable.
That being said, summer break ends for my kids on August 19th. Me I get vacation time but no summer vacation.

Same here, Dave! Actually, the camp my boys are in only runs for 6 weeks, so this week is their last week. I'm sending them to my parents' next week, the following week DH is taking them to his brothers for some camping & such, then the next two weeks, I'm really not sure! Either I'll take them to work with me (:scared:) or I'll send them to my parents' again, or DH will take off. Gotta figure it out still...
I just finished buying all their supplies. I *love* school supplies shopping & do it as soon as the displays are up (& before everything I need is gone!)

Here at the University of Louisville, Fall Semester starts August 24th. The Students begin moving back on campus the week of August 17th. We will have major printing projects over the next few weeks for Welcome Weekend Events for incoming Freshman and their families.
We work year round - no summer break :sad2:
Our work slows down in October for a couple of weeks then we go into end of semester then we have a busy December closing out fall semester and prepping for Spring Semester. February is another slow month for us.

Summer hasn't even started here it seems, and it's already August! Our daughter doesn't go back to school until after Labor day, but the weather up here has barely broken 85 degrees this year.
Were heading down to Disney again the end of August, and frankly, after that, as far as I'm concerned, the winter doldrums will be setting in.

School starts here on August 10th. :woohoo:
If you don't actually work at the school and don't find another job which I hope you do if you want one, you could always volunteer at their school.
That's what I did until 3rd grade when I was told they would only need my help on special occasions like a class party or their "field trip" which was in the school.
I was amazed at how much I could get done at home on my days off from my part time job when I wasn't always volunteering.

Volunteering is how I got my job, I logged 100 hours a month some months! I am sure I will be doing that! LOL!! :thumbsup2

Most schools here in Georgia go back Monday Aug.3. Teachers are already there. The good thing about going back so soon here is that my son gets a lot of time off during the year. Here's a quick rundown:
Labor Day
Fall Break- ( Oct.) off the entire week, not sure of the dates
Thanksgiving week- off the entire week
Christmas Break- two weeks
MLK Holiday-
Winter Break- entire week in the middle of Feb.
Spring Break- entire week after Easter Sunday
Memorial Day
Then throw in the random teacher work days and you can see he gets a ton of time off.

You guys must have a balanced calendar....I SOOOOO would like one of those! I really think it will be a long time before it's considered here, though. :confused3

Me too...the BEST time to be in FL......mid OCTOBER thru mid May...YEAH
as a former teacher/parent I also was always in the "summer vacation" routine....summer 2007 was the first year I did not have someone in the house (including me) going back to school.....it was really weird

I'm in Gwinnett County GA and my kids don't have a schedule this good. We don't get a fall break or Winter Break. And only have 3 days off for Thanksgiving week. You are very lucky!

Wow, I thought this was pretty much state wide. We live in Pike County. It's about an hour south of Atlanta. Griffin is our neighbor which is in Spalding County, and I know they have the same schedule.

We often take our Disney Trips during the fall break or the winter break. We love doing this :cool1:. It's not as hot but still hot enough to go swimming and the crowds are so managable. Unfortunately we will be unable to go during these times this year, what a bummer.:sad1:

I'm not sure if this is considered a balance schedule. I'm posting this link so some of you that are interested can see our calendar. You can view the calendar if you look to your left under quick links. My mother is a teacher with a similar calendar and she says she hates it. She says the summers are too short.

I hear all the requests for a balanced calendar. My request is to just know the actual date of the last day of school. Our school district builds in up to 8 snow days in the calendar and subtracts days at the end when they are not used. The problem is that they don't update the website calendar. So if you are trying to make plans around the end of the school year, you are in the dark.

It seems like summer is oer and we haven't even had our vacation yet (although we did do the PCC). Both kids have started fall sports practices- football practice in full pads is just wrong wrong wrong in July.
DD starts middle school on Aug 24. DS is supposed to start 4th grade on the 25th but due to some school construction the bet is that he first day will get pushed back at least a couple days after that and even then it's going to be a zoo.
I'm already working on our math-a-thon fundraiser for October and just got an email about working on our fun fair in May. I might as well be making chili and pumpkin pie, too!
Good luck with your job Kim! I hope good news comes your way soon.
