What is it like traveling around the holiday?

Will be going to WDW the Saturday before Labor Day and returning the Wednesday after. For those of you who have traveled close to a holiday, what is it like? Is it quiet or chaotic at the airport, etc?

We travel to MCO around most of the major holidays, and the airport is usually quite busy...more challenging getting parking on the Chicago end, too. But last year we travelled on the Weds. before Thanksgiving and the airport was a ghost town...probably due to 9/11. Slowly but surely the crowds are returning...Easter was quite a bit more crowded and I expect the same will be true when we fly next Weds. for 4th of July. Always plan extra time around a holiday, particularly with the longer security lines.
