I will be visiting Disney this December and bringing my in laws thanks to the generous military discounts.
My mother in law is allergic to many many things so will be very challenging to feed her. She likes very bland basic food - basically what they serve kids..:rotfl2::rotfl2: She would be more interested in ordering kids meals or will need to have the adult meals dressed down without sauces and have most sides replaced with more basic things, typically again what is seen on the kids meals.

We are currently under the basic dining plan but 2nd guessing it. If she is ordering mostly kids meals or converting adult meals into kids meals, I am thinking that we will be definitely overpaying for her meals under the plan..

Oh but she will definitely be ordering the adult deserts....:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Any experience or opinions?

Thanks

she should be able to order her food the way she needs it, even at the buffets the chefs came around and asked if anyone had any special dietary needs, said they would make things if needed, I do think you can make the resturant aware before by listing it in your reservation that there are special dietary needs, she should not need to order from the kids menus.

if she does want to order from the kid's menu, they will let her in most cases but she will be charged an adult credit. A lot of restaurants would bring adult-sized portions...so like for instance if she's ordering a kid's chicken nuggets meal, instead of bringing her a plate with 4 nuggets, they might bring 8 or 10 nuggets. If you're all on the same reservation & in the same room you will all have to be on the same plan, and of course will have to have the adult dining plan for her. If you're positive she won't be eating adult portions, ever, you might just want to run the numbers & see if it might be less expensive to skip the dining plan entirely...could be better for your family. We love the dining plan, but it does not work for everyone.

I also have allergies and it's never a problem getting basic, simple versions of what is on the adult menu. They can do pretty much a plain fish, chicken, steak, or pasta dish at any of the WDW owned places. Sides tend to be more limited based on what they have on hand but getting a plain steamed veggie or plain rice or pasta was never an issue. Getting something like a baked potato is difficult if that is something she likes because very few places serve them for whatever reason. Desserts can be handled the same way with sauces and garnishes left off if need be as well.

Sorry, I just don't think of the kids' meals as being healthy or good for somebody with food allergies. :scared1::scared1: Basically, most places you have a choice of chicken nuggets and fries, mac and cheese, pizza, or PB&J.

I agree with the PP's - your MIL is better off asking for specially prepared adult meals. You can find out more information about this on the Disabilities Board -- they have a wealth of information about food allergies and you can find contact info so that you can ensure your ADR's are a safe place for her to eat.

You don't seem to be aware of just how amazing Disney is regarding food allergies. My daughter who can't eat gluten (protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats) or dairy among other things safely eats ice cream, brownies, mac & cheese, breaded chicken strips, spaghetti and so much more when we go to WDW. Please do go over to the disABILITIES! board and take a look around and ask all sorts of questions. Read the stickies over there as well as there's a wealth of information in them regarding food allergies at WDW.
