First one:
How old were you the first time you visited a Disney park?
I was 3....that was LONG ago!!
As of 1-3-10, this thread has switched to a restaurant-of-the-day review.
I will post a restaurant for review and then the next day will be the posting of recipes from that restaurant

I do believe that I was either 7 or 8, flew out to CA to see my sister and we drove to Disney Land. I still have a couple of "A, B and C" tickets for rides. Now that was a LONG time ago. I wonder if those tickets have dates on them?

1983, I was 16 and went with a teacher from school. We both knew the same family and she was going down to house sit for a week and asked it I wanted to go too. We didn't even spend a full whole day, but crammed in MK and Epcot, it had a lasting effect on me. ;)

I was 16 and I was on a rail/bus tour of the Canadian Rockies and the West. I lived in NJ, so I was far from home, and we visited Disneyland! I loved it!

22 on my honeymoon at Disneyland Paris, 27 the 1st time I went to WDW. Being in England it was harder for us to cross the 'pond' when I was little. I remember when I was about 10 my Auntie and Uncle had been to WDW, they had videod it and showed it to use, I decided then I wanted to go there.

Our first time I was 44, DH was 49, DD was 13 other DD was 11 and DGD was 2 1/2 ( her mom was 17 then first time she went).
We are planning our 3rd trip, our first at Christmas. I'm like a big kid when it comes to Disney.
I was 26 when my DH and I went to WDW for the first time!! :yay: Have been hooked ever since!!!;):rotfl:

I was 32, I went to WDW with my brother, sister-in-law & my twin nephews who were 2 1/2. What I didn't know (but I suspected) was that my SIL was pregnant with my niece. So we always tease Mary that she was on that trip! That was 1993. then I went with them to DL in 1995, and WDW again in 1999. Then in 2004, I went with my sister, BIL & nieces. And in 2005, I did my first solo trip.

I was 51 when I first went in 2007, my only visit so far-------- well till next year:banana: Never ever thought I would ever visit WDW but never say never is my motto now! It takes a lot of saving and planning to come over from the UK. Unfortunataly don't have the finances to do it every year plus there are other places we want to go to as well. Ahhhhh if only we were rich;)

I was 6 or 7 when we first visited DL. I remember that we drove down, and stayed at one of the kitshy hotels that had a goofy alien theme, with shrubbery shaped like aliens. Then in 1973 drove across Canada, then drove down to Orlando after entering the US via somewhere in Ont. Stayed at one of the campgrounds that you could take a ferry to WDW. At the time we went, they were still building some of the attractions, but we still had a good time anyway (how can you tell I've got a photographic memory). Am in the process of saving for a return trip to WDW in Aug 2011. With being a stay at home mom, and one income, it takes us longer to save for a trip. Have a great day everyone!

I was 36 for the first trip to WDW......money was tight for a lot of years, so nice to be able to go more now.
We went in 1990, 1991, 1992 and then not until 1997. Been about 12 or so times since then with trip number 4 coming since last Nov....but then there will be a break. Back to DLR in April :yay:

QOTD....Tuesday 7/28
Which is your favorite TS dining in MK and what is your favorite think to order?
If you have only been to DL, your favorite TS there?
And if you have been to both DL and MK, one each......keep it to MK and DL though, we will get to the other parks later ;)
MK for me is The Plaza. Love several of the sandwiches and the milkshakes. Want to try the chicken and strawberry salad next time we go.
DL is Blue Bayou (not many to pick from :( ).....but do love the Monte Cristo.

I enjoy the Crystal Palace. The salmon entree is one I remember, but I enjoy lots of things on the buffet, but for me, it's the whole experience. Even when the characters aren't at our table, it makes me smile to see them.

We have only eaten at Crystal Palace for TS at WDW. We normally go to a resort to eat the days we are in MK. I know that resort eating maybe coming on a later QOTD!
We went for the Pooh & Friends lunch. It was buffet. We liked it ok, but there are so many places we LOVE... so I don't know that I would call it my favorite! Pineapple Whip doesn't count as TS... hmmmm :rolleyes1

I'm not really a huge fan of any of the table service restaurants in the MK, we prefer to eat at the hotels for our main meal.
At Disneyland though I loved the Blue Bayou, the monte cristo was a bit rich for me but was very nice. I loved the creme brulee desert though, the sugar treasure chest from that is sitting on my piano in front of me right now!!
Seen as I didn't do a WDW MK restaurant I'll add a Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris instead! Although I love the theaming of the Blue Lagoon (IMHO even better than the theaming in Disneyland as you go down a tunnel to get in to it so there is no outside light at all), the food there is not good. However I do love Walts American restaurant which is a table service restaurant on Main Street. The restaurant is themed into differnet rooms, each representing a different area of the park. It is located above the shops on Main Street and to get to it you can take the life which is a replica of the one at Club 33 at Disneyland. Here I love either the salmon in lemon sauce:
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l49/karenm30/DLRP%20October/DisneylandParis041-1.jpg
or the beef with cabernet sauce:
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l49/karenm30/DLRP%20October/DisneylandParis042-1.jpg
and for desert I love the raspberry cheesecake:

I'm behind...just found this thread!
I was 7, I think. I still have the book with unused tickets and a tourbook from the park--I'll have to go look at the date on it. I also have the Viewmaster reel--I was too scared to open my eyes in the Haunted Mansion...but wanted to see what was there! :rotfl2: Oh, my poor, wonderful, grandfather had to put up with me on that ride.
TS at MK? We usually head to Epcot at night to eat. Only eaten at Liberty Tree Tavern before MNSSHP--I"m sure they aren't always dressed as ghouls? That was good. Crystal Palace--buffets always go over well with DSs.:rotfl:

DH and I were at MK when there was only MK, and Epcot was being built. Must have been mid to late 70's. :confused3 And we were not much into Disney. Although I use to watch the Disney Channel back when it was a pay channel and we had a satellite dish.
Our trip early this decade I consider my real first Disney. We both fell in love with Disney and even moved here. So yes, Disney is in our blood and we would have to go through an intervention. :dance3:
Don't have an all out favorite place to eat at WDW, let alone at Epcot. I really like the mushroom ravioli at Coral Reef. Can't hardly go wrong with anything at CR.
But like them all. Le Cellier I like. But could take it or leave it. The one time I had a burger there at lunch it came on a rock hard English muffin. I don't even think my steak knife would cut it. :lmao:
Just depends on the mood where I like to eat at WS. Sometimes Chef. Sometimes Morocco. Sometimes Biergarten... And I LOVE the chai ice tea at 9 Dragons. OMG. That stuff is addictive. :cloud9:
Have good memories at them all. :yay:
The BEST dipping sauce and bread (for us) is at Maya Grill. (MMMMMMMMMMMMMM)

None of the Epcot TS places I have eaten at have wowed me so far, but then again I haven't eaten at that many of them as we usually eat at the hotels. I am excited about our ADR at Le Cellier next month though, I am going to try the cheese soup and the mushroom fillet. Desert I will decide on the day what I fancy!
Pooh67_68

Should warn you all now, John is not an adventurous eater like myself so there will never be any exciting place listed by me.
TS for Epcot would be the Garden Grill.
Meriweather
07-30-2009, 10:40 AM
Barbara, I don't eat the English muffin with the steak burger ;)
Karen, DH loves the cheese soup, I find it too strong with a beer taste.
Heidi, we have only eaten at Garden Grill once. I really liked it (not on the diet plan anymore :( ).
In EPCOT we love Teppan Edo in Japan!! :thumbsup2 We love Japanese food and we go to our favorite restaurant quite frequently here at home! :thumbsup2 Not only do we enjoy the food there but the way they prepare it is a show in itself!! ;) We also tried the Rose and Crown for the first time on our last trip! I have to say the food was good!! The order of fish and chips my son and daughter got was enormous!!! Not a bad experience! But I have to say Le Cellier is our all time favorite!!:thumbsup2Now here's hoping I finally get the ressies I haven't been able to get for Le Cellier for our next trip............................:confused3:eek: :sad2: ;):rotfl:

We ate at Coral Reef in June and we didn't like it at all! Service was terrible and the food was just ok, but for the price, we would definetely not eat there again. We had read great reviews so we were excited to eat there. Maybe we just had a bad experience, however, we normally don't give a bad place a 2nd chance.
So having said that, we really don't have an Epcot favorite yet.:confused3

Another tough question. I like the boat rides in Mexico and Norway. (Not to mention the Norway bakery. They have a really good no sugar added choc mousse.)
Germany has such interesting stores. But so does Japan and China.
And cannot like the French bakery?
And UK for tea. :goodvibes
Canada, needs something. But they have beautiful gardens.
I always wonder how those Japanese drummers can stand like they do, esp for so long. It looks uncomfortable.

I suppose it must be France for me. I love the movie and the music. We even did the Kim Possible Mission for only one country so far, and it was in France. The restaurant has some excellent items, and oh yes, it was great seeing Remy there when we were in June.
Another plus is that we often stay at a Boardwalk resort and France is just a short walk from the International Gateway!:goodvibes
Bobbi:goodvibes
PS. My second choice would be Canada, again for the movie (even if you don't sit!) and the restaurant!!!!:goodvibes I do listen to Off Kilter at times, but I like their more traditional versions, I'm not into the rock.

That's a really tough one!!!! I love them all and feel like we never spend enough time in World Showcase. As far as inside pavilions I really love how Mexico is like a little village/market at night inside and the boat ride.
We really love :love:all of EPCOT but if I had to choose I would have to say we love Italy for the atmosphere!! It makes my DH long for home!!:sad1::laughing: My DH was born in Italy and he speaks fluent Italian so he can speak to the cast members in their native language!! That always surprises them when he answers them back in Italian!:laughing: With Italy being such an amazing country we think they could have made the pavilion so much more of the "Italian experience" than they did!! :confused3:sad2:
I love England too!! :thumbsup2 Love the fish and chips,The British Invasion(the Beatles),poking around the shops (love:love: looking at the Irish china and other Irish items since that is the other half of my heritage!!)and buying my favorite teas,oh yes and the street performers! They can be soooo funny! :lmao:

That's a hard one! I would have said Alfredo's but it's gone. I guess I'll go with Le Cellier being my current fav. We usually eat dinners in Epcot. Hello everyone!
I was 38 for my first trip to WDW. I've never been to DL.
I've only eaten at one TS at MK and that was Cinderella's Palace for breakfast. It was okay, liked the interaction with the princesses better than the food.
Like the MK, I've only eaten at one TS in Epcot and that was in Mexico. It was okay and I wouldn't eat there again.
I like all the pavilions in Epcot. I'd like to go through them without kids.
My favorite ride at Epcot is...I don't have one.

We were not allowed on the walkway, which was one area I wanted to check out.
However the remaining was pretty fabulous.
Entered through the lobby.
Visited:
Community Hall, down the hall on the right.
2BR Villa
Grand Villa
(MK and Bay Lake side)
Top of the World Lounge & Deck
Bay Cove Bar
Pool area
Saw the names on the Tempo fountain. Of course way too many to read. But pretty cool.
A studio sleeps 4.
1BR Villa sleeps up to 5.
2 BR Villa sleeps up to 9.
3 BR, 2 story, Grand Villa sleeps up to 12.
And let me tell ya, that Grand Villa is huge. Over 2100 sq ft I think. I just felt like I fell into a large dining area as I walked through the door. LOTS of ROOM to roam, and spread out. Dark wood floors. LONG rectangular dining table. Windows every where.
And even the views coming off the elevators and waiting for them are something.
I forgot to look at the lighting in the lobby. But I did snap a photo of it in the Top of the World. And very cool dual monorails painted (or somehow displayed) in the glass behind the bar area.
Lots of shiny polished marble everywhere. It gleams.
I tried posting some using the photos I have in snapfish, and only could see big red X's.
Maybe will try this weekend. But I do have over 90 photos. Although many of them are similar.
I know someone who stayed there last night and looking forward to hearing about their experience.

Test Track is really too. But not the waiting line (even with FP) or the pre show. So actually rarely ride it. Was on TT much more as a tourist than a local.

LOL...Sunshine Seasons isn't in WS :rotfl:
We always use the single rider line for TT.....found out this last trip something we didn't know before. We went right over there on opening. Used single rider......passed about a 10 minute wait. Right in and out the preshow, they didn't even show it and right on the ride....NO difference to a single rider, they weren't even asking and that line wasn't set up yet, so for a change we actually rode in the same row :rotfl:

Thank you for the pictures Barbara (I tried posting earlier but it timed out, then I couldn't get back on).
The picture of the girl outside looking over the balcony scared me, I'm afraid of heights. I really like the mural of the monorails, and some of the art in the rooms is pretty neat.

What is your favorite CS in FW at Epcot? And what do you like to order?
Pooh67_68
08-03-2009, 10:23 AM
We have eaten at Electric Umberella a few times, but we tend not to eat at Epcot, its just the way our day plays out. So we don't have a favorite at either WS or FW.
Kirby
08-03-2009, 10:49 AM
I've eaten counter service in The Land and at another place near the big Disney store (can't remember names). None of them were places to write home about so I guess I don't have a favorite in FW at Epcot.
Meriweather
08-03-2009, 12:29 PM
I guess there actually aren't a lot of choices in FW.
Our favorite is Sunshine Seasons....great variety and the prices aren't that bad.
I like the chicken caesar salad and the chocolate mousse cake :)
DH likes the dinners......1/2 chicken or pork chop and the sides.
Missy1961
08-03-2009, 01:43 PM
Yes, I almost always eat the fish & chips when I'm at Epcot, so I don't know the CS at FW. I did eat at Sunshine Seasons once, I had some Chinese food that was pretty good.
Danauk

Not sure, we ate at Sunshine Seasons last time, but can't remeber what I had. As we usually stay at the BCV when we are in Epcot we usually go back to the villa for lunch seen as we have a full kitchen.

I better do a better job at reading the questions. :lmao:
Really nothing specific stands out in WS. I love the hummus in Morocco. But they even have that at Sunshine Seasons. I darn near have to drag DH in SS though. He always :snooty: about it.
I use to occasionally eat at the Electric Umbrella. But not since they stopped selling sandwiches on pretzel bread. That was the one decent thing they had.
The burgers at WDW really leave a lot to be desired. :sad2: (As do many of the CS.)
Pooh67_68

John and I don't like the dole whips either. And as much as we love ice cream in 9 trips we have gotten the novelties twice, and both times mine were popsicles, no ice cream involved.
Meriweather
08-04-2009, 07:10 PM
I like the sugar free raspberry sorbet they have at the ice cream place on Main Street....and at the Plaza (and CRT)....and The Plaza has no sugar added milk shakes
I don't eat much ice cream usually, but it is a vacation treat once in a while.
My friend and I got Mickey bars on our trip in Jan. '07, that is the last time I had one. And the CM at the cart gave them to us because we were on our birthday trip :)

Actually, I like the good ol TTA.
I think the MI Laugh Factory is really cute. Again, something else I have to drag DH through. But I have to "suffer" ;) through PotC with him.
My favorite ride is Pirates of the Caribbean!! pirate: It is the first ride we do when we get to MK!! ::MickeyMo It is a tradition since the kids were little! Favourite ride at MK? Probably Mickey's Philarmagic. In the MK style park at Disneyland Paris I love Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, it goes under the lake and the mountain part is on it's own island in the middle.
Pooh67_68
08-05-2009, 07:04 AM
That one is easy. Its the ride I rode first, back on my very first trip in 1983
Haunted Mansion
Didn't go again until 2000 and that is the first ride I had John ride.
Missy1961
08-05-2009, 08:35 AM
I can only pick one? that's not fair--MK is my favorite park, hands down. If I had to pick one--it would be---POTC. But I also really love Splash Mountain, Peter Pan, Mickey's Philamagic, Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, Jungle Cruise, BTMRR, IASW.......
pennst8r
08-05-2009, 09:09 AM
that is hard to pick just one! I think it'd be the Haunted Mansion. But
I love annoying my kids with the Tiki Room, and sing it to them until they go on it with me. :goodvibes It's even one of my ringtones. So maybe I should have said that!
Lynne a woman after my own heart!! ;) :thumbsup2:laughing:My DH and I love to torture our kids with the It's A Small World theme song!! ;) When we get close my DH will start singing the song and saying he wants to go on and they know the only way he will stop singing is to agree to ride it!! :confused3:rotfl:The highlight of the day!!!:lmao:

Ok... if I could only ride 1 ride I probably would answer differently...
My favorite ride is Its a Small World. Its the only ride I TRULY remember from my very first visit! I love the song and we all sing it regularly!!
I would actually consider myself very adventerous and love the big rides, but that one means so much to me. We ride it 2 - 3 times each trip!
This question really needs to be broken into 2: 1.rides and 2.show/attraction!

Meriweather

This is a hard one. If I can only pick one though it would have to be The Haunted Mansion. I just love the dining room with all the ghosts. I swear every time I ride it, I see something I've not seen on previous rides. Love it! :goodvibes

We'd love to watch the different performers but it always seems that we either just miss them or it's way to early and we don't want to wait. We usually always do our big sit down meal for lunch.
Nice break, lower prices.
Being just the 2 of us usually now, we go back to the resort after lunch (arriving at rope drop), rest for a few hours and then head back to the park for the evening. CS dinner. Breakfast in room.
We have breakfast in the room too!! ;)And many times lunch! We like to go back to the room around noon from the parks and go to the pool, especially if it's summer and it's hotter than Hades!!:rotfl: So I may make sandwiches and take them to the pool and eat there! I can't think of the name of the CS I ate at in Dec. It's near Star Tours, I had a cheeseburger that was OK. I think if Star Tours wasn't in DHS, I'd never go there. Well, and now Toy Story Mania--that was pretty good. I barely go to DHS.

DHS has always been a difficult one for us, last couple of times we ate at "Toy Story Pizza Planet" (remember Nancy that's where we meet), it was ok but nothing great, my nieces love pizza that's why we always go there for lunch. DH's is Toy Story Mania.....I think that is his favorite in all WDW. It took over Buzz' spot. I think he could do that all day long.
DD was picked as part of the preshow for the backlot tour in June, Donna. She was by herself. I think we were off doing "scary rides". I am so sad I missed it. No one to take pictures. She was the one that got all the water dumped on her.

I was visiting an aunt when the police came to use her phone to inform parents that their son was gone (he went underneath a truck on his motorcycle, I'll spare you the details).

What's for dinner tonight?
Do you cook different things for different people at home if someone doesn't like what you plan in fixing?
Missy1961
08-18-2009, 10:31 AM
Since it's only me & dad, we can usually agree on something. Once in a while, one of us wants something the other doesn't like, so we cook our own dinner. When we were kids, my mom wouldn't do it, but there were 6 of us! Most nights, we ate what dad liked, but most of the time we all liked it too. and mom was a great cook.
Tonight, it's just me--dad's going to a BBQ with some friends, so I think I'm going to treat myself to a nice panni from Panera Bread.

Tonight is Italian grilled chicken, green beans, mashed potatos with brown gravy & corn on the cob. The kids don't like the chicken so I'll throw them a couple of chicken tenders in the fryer while the rest is cooking....they'll eat the same sides......well, not the mashed potatoes.....I think I must have the only kids in the world who don't like mashed potatoes. I could have lived off mashed potatoes & corn when I was little......I'd make mashed potatoe sandwiches.....:rotfl:

There was just a big murder trial here--made the news because it's such a tiny, quiet town. The husband was just convicted of murdering his wife in the pool while the kids were sleeping. Mistress had his baby while he was in jail awaiting trial. This was a prominent family in town, but altho I had met her at school I didn't know her.
A child in our neighborhood hung himself a few years ago--not sure if it was deliberate. there were rumors of it being due to a "game" some teens play. Very sad.
And my step mom's cousin was murdered by her husband in their jacuzzi--that story was on tv. The convicted him after he murdered wife #2.
How about a happy question now, Nancy? :flower3:

Oh pool party, what time. ;)
My mom's family always accused her of spoiling us, but I hardly call making us something different for dinner as spoiling. I mean that was about the extent of getting away with anything.
I read that article, another girlfriend shot in the chest, but was ruled a suicide attempt, seems a bit suspicious now.

We are having taco's.
If someone here doesn't want what I cook there is always something else to eat (hot dogs, frozen pizza etc)
Dh made a rule long ago though, that if you didn't like what was cooked, you fix your own. Now this is funny since I do ALL the cooking! Why does he care, but I guess he is looking out for me... :rotfl:
I will say though that I do cook 2 things sometimes. Especially if I know the boys won't eat it. And Gavinn is a VERY picky eater. And he is 4 so I don't really let him do too much cooking yet! :lmao:
He ends up eating A LOT of hot dogs and applesauce!! -his favorite! and yes he dips his (cold) hot dog into the applesauce ~~~ eeeewwww. HE LOVES IT! DH doesn't like that I let him do that... but I say, fruit and protien! Right?
Of course I also let the boys put coffee creamer in their milk. DH HATES that... but its the same as adding chocolate syrup!
We really are not that weird!

We had pizza for tonight's dinner. My family always ate what I had on the table. None of my boys were picky eaters.
My DH has known several people growning up who have committed suicide but I haven't known anyone personally who has died this way. Known individuals who have died in bad accidents. The latest one was a young 19 year old who broke his neck in a 4 wheel accident. He played baseball on the high school team with my middle son. It really hit my son hard, he was the second friend of my son's who has died in a accident in the last year and a half. The first was a car accident. His friend was in the back seat without a seat belt on, the driver loss control of the car and hit a tree, she died from a broken neck. My son was texting her just seconds before the accident, he was the last to communicate with her. He will never forget her, she will always be in his heart.

It is hard to lose friends so young.
DD lost a classmate to a motorcycle accident when she was in middle school.
And several friends to suicide and auto accidents in college.
DS has lost a friend to leukemia and some in college to suicide (I think that is so sad that so many suicide in college).
We, of course, have lost friends to accidents.
A young son of a neighbor to an auto accident. That was a really hard one.
And a friend in a mountain climbing accident.

I wasn't going to post because it still bothers me, but we know a couple who's youngest daughter (6) was shot and killed by another child (10) because he decided he didn't want to play fair.
