Just my opinion - but I am an onsite all the way kinda guy - go with POR!

It all depends on your situation. For me, if I can afford it, I will always stay onsite from now on. I would prefer to stay at an All Star rather than one of the really fancy hotels, even if the price is the same. It just feels better at a Disney resort. And, I feel more secure with my kids running around a Disney resort than if they are running around a regular hotel (ever notice that at the resorts or the parks you are never too far from a CM?). My kids are a little older, (will be 16 and 17 on this next trip), so I can give them more freedom than you would want with 8 year olds, so I'm sure that makes a difference. I would suggest though, if you do go with HIFS, make sure you get a rental car.
