I was wondering about wearing some of my favorite pins while at the parks next week. I read somewhere it was not advised to wear some that you may not be willing to trade. But if I'm not going to wear them, why buy them? I can politely say no, I don't want to trade that one, can't I? I'm not up to speed on the rules of game yet and was just wondering. Also, any tips on favorite or rare pins to look for?

Disney Dad Says...............................You're biggest concern with wearing your favorites is that they may fall out and you will lose them. Only CM's HAVE to trade, it's to encourage the activity. People will post shortly about what to look for. We simply look for pins that are different, we don't plan to sell them!! If you have children let them trade for you!! Ask the CM's if any of the pins are special that they have, and earlier the better. Most will tell you!!! Be careful, you never know when magic might hit. We were outside France in EPCOT. A young kid sees we have a Disneyland Pin and gets all excited. He says he will give us two pins for it. I ask why and he shows me Disney Japan, Disney Paris, Disneyworld, then says he will give us three pins!! I assume it completed his set so we just gave it to him. So maybe there is a way you would lose one of your favorites, wouldn't it be great!!!lol

I completely understand tnartteacher's concern. In May I wore my lanyard and did a few trades, mostly with CMs. It seemed that most people were not into trading -- just admiring.

However, on our last day at MGM a fellow wanted to trade for my Tigger AK pin. Not knowing it was a retired pin, I traded it and immediately regretted it. Fortunately, I made a trade through the DIS and got it back.

You should be careful. I would suggest wearing pins that you are willing to trade. Carefully consider the trade before you agree.

If you wear pins just for display, make sure that when people begin to look at them you mention that they are not for trading. If someone insists, I would politely say no and walk away.

And read up on your pins (go to www.dizpins.com). I wish I had!

What you might do is wear non-tradables on your shirt or hat, then put on a lanyard with your tradables. I try to empty my hat of a lot of pins so that I can put the trades I make on it that I want to keep (or in my daughter's diaper bag). It might help ease the confusion.
