We did the 4-dayWonder Last year, got NO cell phone service at all. I'm pretty sure you don't get service on the ships at all.

BUT you had to be able to speak Spanish to talk to the operator or understand the instructions! Since I wasnt able to understand I couldnt use the cell phone anywhere so I ended up using an international calling card at the piers!!! It worked fine but sometimes getting an english speaking operator was a nightmare! LOL

Hydster,
We, too, plan to use an international phone card from Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Were public phones easy to find and convenient?

Depends on your cellular service company. I have Cingular, and my other family members all have different, and Cingular BY FAR has the best range. We get service pretty much everywhere.. We took our phones on our cruise, and were able to use them at ALL ports of course, and even at sea SOME,but not too much. It depended on how far we were from land I guess...But we did use our phones when we could. They came in HANDY on the islands.. OH, we were not on the western, but eastern. Don't get to try the western until next June 2003.. I"m so excited already!

Yes the public phones were very easy to find on both of the ports you mentioned! They both were located either near the pier or on the pier where we disembarked! Of course we havent taken a Disney cruise yet these were where the Carnival Ships let us off but I cant imagine it would be much different for Disney ships!!!
It did take us awhile to find an english speaking operator and that was harder than finding a phone! LOL
