Is free dining available to AP Holders? I am supposing so, but then you only get the free dining and not the room discount, correct?

It's available - but you have to buy tickets. Free dining is only applicable to full price room plus tickets packages. It is not applicable to the annual passholder ticketless packages. Many annual passholders purchase one-day base tickets with the free dining package - one day tickets never expire and can be upgraded or applied to an annual passholder renewal.
No other discounts may be applied to the free dining package, the room must be paid at rack rate. Disney doesn't permit stacking discounts.

Nala is right. Even AP holders must pay rack rate and purchase at least one day park tickets in order to get free dining. Be sure to run the numbers to see which is the better deal for your situation.
I had free dining (via last years bounce back program) for my upcoming Sept/Oct trip. However, I'm traveling solo this trip and staying at a moderate resort. When the AP discounts came out, I ran the numbers, canceled my free dining, and rebooked with the AP discount, purchasing the DxDDP instead. With me traveling solo and staying at CSR, the 40% room discount and not having to buy a one day park ticket, the AP discount easily beat the free dining deal. In fact, with the difference in price I was able to upgrade from the basic free DDP to the DxDDP and Disney still owed me a little money back.:cool1:
I also have a 40% Pin code (same as what the AP code will probably be) that I used for my moderate room for my upcoming Dec trip. However, my husband and mom are going with me on that trip. With three adults in the room, free dining would be a better deal, so I'm really hoping for a free dining PIN or that Chase Visa offers free dining in Dec again. I'd gladly switch. I'd have to pay rack rate for the room, but could save almost $120.00/night on dining. At a Deluxe resort the 40% discounts will nearly always beat free dining. At the Moderates you just have to run your numbers, it will depend on how many people are in the room and how many of those people are over 10 y/o. In a Value free dining will beat the 40% off.
