Those of you who thought the Disney Box was on a permanent hiatus were wrong. It's coming back out. But we have a little problem. Does anyone remember what I did with the Disney Box after I had packed in June? I'll give you a hint:

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/2009%20PTR%20Pictures/DSC_0001.jpg

:rotfl2: Looks like I need another.

Now, I had originally planned on this being a surprise trip. But one of the kids overheard me on August 5th on the phone with dh and then Disney, so that's all over. At least that gave me a chance to be honest about everything we were doing with the kids. . .

So, for now, here are my updated (again) plans:

Resort: Port Orleans-French Quarter
Magic Your Way 8-day Park Hopper Tickets
Deluxe Disney Dining Plan

And here are our players:

ME: Amanda, 35. I love Disney and have loved Disney since my first sight of the castle on Jan 31, 2007.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/2009%20Disney%20World%20Trip/DSC_0058.jpg

The following people will not be there, now, but it seems weird not to mention them. . .

DH: Dan, was born the same year that Disney World opened (you do the subtraction). In June he did not go with us to Disney World. What was he doing? Well, he was in Pennsylvania smoking cigars. Here he is. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/n1274558108_30252269_5773.jpg

And I have the proof he was doing the cigar stuff right here. . .

He's on the left side with the ball cap on

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/4902_1179078321856_1375086841_48934.jpg

Then there is Sweetie, who is a Disney adult at the tender age of 10.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/20090428071.jpg

Stinky, who is 8.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/20090428064.jpg

And Boo, with her crop of potatoes. She's 7.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/20090526114.jpg

And by the way, Boo loves Minnie. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/2009%20Disney%20World%20Trip/DSC_0201.jpg

And the kids and me in Disney World last month. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/2009%20Disney%20World%20Trip/DSC_0217-1.jpg

and us outside of Pirates of the Caribbean. . .

We have not gotten the MVMCP tickets yet--I am waiting until I get my bonus from work for extra work to get them, but our plans are to go on the 18th. We are arriving offsite on the 17th, checking into POR on the 18th, and departing on the 25th. We also will be in AB at POR because we have 3 kiddos. Hope to see you there!

Wow, that's a change! A good one though! That makes for more time to make everything perfect! We've been to WDW in August, it's HOT! But you barely notice it when you're having fun! (exept of course, when you are waiting those grueling-ly long outdoor lines. But during the school year I'm sure you'll be okay!) So are your kids still coming with you? Can't wait to hear more plans! :thumbsup2

I have to ask my readers: any ideas for the resort, because I just don't know about AKV?

These are our choices:

Port Orleans-Riverside
Saratoga Springs (especially if we buy DVC)
Contemporary Resort
Beach Club Resort
Ft. Wilderness Cabins

What do ya'll think?

POR--Pros--We've been there before and know what we are getting. We love the lanscaping. Most efficient cost wise. Cons--We'd like to try something else.

SSR--Pros--Beautiful resort, close to Downtown Disney; Cons--Cost

CR--Pros--On Monorail line; close to MK; Cons--Cost; buses shared with GF and POLY for DTD I know of

BC--Pros--Very efficient cost wise as far as Deluxes go; Swimming pool; proximity to Epcot and therefore the monorail; Cons--Still quite pricey

FWC--Pros--Full kitchen for the family (ie more room), close to Magic Kingdom; kids love the animals in Fort Wilderness, we love Trail'
s End Buffet; Cons--Awkward placement; much travel needed for food court and pool; extremely large resort

And now, typing the pros and cons, I think we are left really with 2 choices:

Port Orleans-Riverside

Beach Club

So, the question is, are the amenities and location of Beach Club enough to outweigh the savings? What do ya'll think?

07-26-2009, 09:38 PM
Well, it seems you have quite the dilemma! I probably am not of much help, considering the fact we've never stayed on WDW property before! But from the research I've done, it seems to me that the BC would be worth it! With the pool to the ameneties, that would my choice! But that's just me. POR seems really nice too, but you said you wanted something different. Remember, you get what you pay for! Sorry if that wasn't any help. hopefully a more experienced DISer could offer some more help!

Picture this: I'm at home, with a stack of names that need to be scheduled into classes by Monday morning. I'm tired. My eyes are tired. I need nothing more than rest. I'm enjoying my time with my new purchase--a new computer, which unfortunately put a hurting on my pocketbook. At the same time, I'm cursing the idea of Disney gods which have prevented me from going in December. You see, the computer purchase made my trip definitely impossible.

See, I had been secretly planning on buying the computer, so that hurt on the pocketbook was not unexpected. I'd been eyeing one since the beginning of the month. No big deal there.

No--the big deal was this: I, being tired of looking at GPAs, MAP Scores, and classes decided I'd head over to the DIS. I, being frustrated about not seeing Osborne lights, Christmas trees, and the castle all icecicled up, felt that the fuzzy Disney math had finally gitten the best of me. As I skim through the recent threads, one catches my eye on the podcast board. Surely, someone is joking about this promotion. But then, I read this from Webmaster Leah:

Here's our info about this promotion:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneypackages.htm#visa

I received an email about this b/c we have a Disney Visa and it said that this deal WILL be available to the general public on Monday, July 27th

Free dining for the general public in December? Surely Disney would have enough foreknowledge to knock my days out, though. After all, I wanted to go right on Christmas, one of the busiest times of the year. So Monday morning after I put work into the computer, I sit down and price free dining December 17-20. . .

Tinkerbell makes her appearance on the screen, stars appearing behind her. . .

SCORE!

I can hardly believe my eyes. Free dining for Christmas. For my family, that is a savings of a little over $1000. Really. Sweetie (a "Disney adult"), DH, and I are all adults, and my youngest two are children. Suddenly, the trip seems more an more affordable. But try as I might, I just could not believe this promotion could be applied through Christmas! I pick up the phone. I dial. For a few excruciating moments, I hear Corbin Bleu sing, "Celebrate You," and then one of my favorite phrases, "Thank you for calling the Walt Disney Travel Company, this is _____________ how may I help you with a resort reservation?"

Very clearly, I tell her I want December 17-24 for free dining at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside in a standard view room with 7 day base tickets. And somewhere in Neverland, Tinkerbell is spreading a little Pixie dust everywhere because,

She Shoots!

She Scores!!!!

"May I book the reservation for you?" she asks.

I reply, "Can you put a 7-day hold on that reservation for me?" (ahem, while I explain this to my dear husband who puts up with more of this Disney addiction than should be humanly necessary?)

"Certainly. Your confirmation number is ___________ and I am emailing your trip information to you. Your deposit is due August 3 and thank you for choosing the Walt Disney Travel Company."

Somewhere in the background, I hear, "We value your feedback. . ." but instead of taking the survey (which I normally do), I am scheming in my head how I am going to tell my husband.

Coming up. . .how he's just resigned to whatever I want and Santa Claus comes what day this year?

December 16, 2009, my kids will go to sleep, unsuspecting of the magic that will appear that night. The lights will go out. The tree will be lit up. Down the chimney on December 16 he'll come. With three boxes wrapped up. Three Disney boxes wrapped up. Yes, you read correctly, in creativeamanda's house this year, Santa Claus is not coming on the eve of December 24. Santa Claus is coming on the eve of December 16.

On December 17, three small disney boxes will be unter the tree. The kids will open them. Each box will have an envelope of an unspecified amount of Disney Dollars, an outfit to change into for the ride, and

color copies of the travel paperwork including their Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Tickets and the creme de la creme--each will have a travel journal/notebook.

Yes, Santa Claus is taking the Celebration Vacation theme to heart. And bringing my kids their Christmas presents well before Christmas day. After all, what could be better than a Disney Vacation for Christmas?!?

Oh, yes! My goal is to be at Disney for as many holidays as possible. I'm not so concerned about staying at every resort--some I'm not too fussed about. But every holiday--yes.

I've done: Halloween, July 4th Week, Valentine's

I still want to do: Thanksgiving, Easter, President's day

I wanted to tell you this, too--to get a better location at POR, try doing online checkin and say you'll be there to pick up your package earlier than you actually will. Your room gets assigned days in advance, so, you don't have to be so concenred about maybe having to move later. I did this in June, and was upgraded to a water view corner room. It was awesome!

SO when I last left all of you, I was excited because I had booked the free dining. I started thinking ("a dangerous thing") and I realized that I would not be the only person who decides to hit Disney up on free dining like this. And all of those people are going to want to go to the MVMCP. Mind you, I'm driving to the library in the rain when I make this realization, so I quickly dial it in to my Bluetooth on the car. (Have I ever mentioned I loved this particular feature in the new Fords--the Microsoft SYNC system?)

The phone rings, and a real nice gentleman takes my order. Now, when we bought MNSSHP tickets last year, for the five of us it was around $256, so you can imagine the sticker shock I got with the MVMCP tickets. But I bought them, anyway.

So, I have my tickets--or at least they are on their way in the mail. Rest assured, you will see them when they come in.

So, now we are locked. As I was so kindly reminded, MVMCP tickets are non-transferrable. And my date? December 18, 2009!

I'd love to claim the idea as my own, but it was dh's. But you are welcome to take it! It's wonderful.

On a side note, dh's sister used to live in Alaska. She used to send letters from Santa from North Pole, Alaska. The kids absolutely loved it. The one who "knows" about Santa hasn't put 2 and 2 together about those letters, yet.

Disers who have known me for a while now know that I am an ubber organizer. I also am a color coder, clean up after myself, OCD type chick. With a capital D. :rotfl:

So it won't surprise anyone how my planning corner in my home office looks. . .

Can you tell I was updating my Trip Report when I shot this picture, lol?

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/DSC_0001.jpg

A close up of the corner. Ther drawers are of my many-colored pens, pencils, markers. The striped notebook is the one I take notes in for my Trip reports. Right now, the plastic box on top of the computer's CPU holds paperwork from DVC that I am perusing, Disney Maps, pictures that need to be sorted into Power Sort boxes, and Disney Dining brochures.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/DSC_0002-1.jpg

My current planning binder, which is already getting plenty of information in it. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/DSC_0003.jpg

And yes, you see what you think you do behind the binder on the lanyard. One of these. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/DSC_0005.jpg

Finally, the notebook where I jot down information and handwrite everything before I put it into Excel.

And you might notice something about this--it's my dining ideas. And there are a lot of meals written down.

That's because of this: we upgraded to the Deluxe Plan this morning. I received my first of two checks for extra work this summer and I actually had nothing to do with it. I crunched the numbers with my best Fuzzy Disney Math, and well, given the number of meals we were planning on doing OOP, we decided that upgrading to the Deluxe Plan was the best. So I called this morning. :rolleyes1 This is not a change from our original Disney in December plans--dh is on a diet and the food at the signature restaurants were 10 times more healthy in the choices than anything dealing with counter service. With free dining, we resigned ourselves to the fact that we would pay a good portion oop. When we crunched the numbers, it ended up being only a little less than the Deluxe Plan addition, and with an extra snack and refillable mugs, about the same. So this is the notebook with the dining information. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/DSC_0004.jpg

You might ask what our ideas for dining are. . .

I'm looking at these oprions:

CS Locations:
*Earl of Sandwich
*Flame Tree Barbeque
*Riverside Mill
*Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory (Beignets)
*Boulangerie Patisserie

TS Locations:
*Breakfasts:
**Chef Mickey's
**Tusker House
**Princess Storybook Dining
**1900 Park Fare
**Whispering Canyon Cafe
*Lunches:
**LeCellier
**50s Prime Time Cafe (okay, not so healthy, but we can splurge a little)
**Cinderella's Royal Table
*Dinners:
**Liberty Tree Tavern
**Yachtsman Steakhouse
**Hoop dee Doo
**Hollywood Brown Derby
**Tutto Italia (Candlelight Processional Package)
**Ohana

You might ask, "Where's Crystal Palace?" The simple answer is, we've eaten there three times and we want to try some new places. Of course, dh won't let us give up Liberty Tree, but the only locations we have eaten before for those same meals are: LTT, Riverside Mill, LeCellier, Flame Tree BBQ, Princess Storybook, and Boulangerie Patisserie, and of the ones left, we have never eaten at 10 of the locations! That's with being on the regular dining plan in June and the deluxe in 2008! We want a little variety this time.

And as for the places we were going to pay out of pocket? Well, they were: Yachtsman, CRT, Hoop dee Doo. Can you see now how DxDP was better for us? :rotfl2:

Coming up. . .The Excel Files Begin and am I keeping the secret?

The organization is the blessing and curse of my TypeA personality. I I have to have the whole house clean before I can do work. So I only get planning done late at night, because the house has to be cleaned first and I procrastinate half the day! :rotfl2:

Deluxe Dining. Park Hoppers. Deluxe Dining. Park Hoppers. I couldn't decide. Saturday morning, I figured how much I was going to be paid for Extended School Year, and decided to add Deluxe Dining. Teaching for one week this summer was going to pay for it.

Yet, I still had this nagging feeling in the back of my head. . .what if the parks were obscenely crowded? What if we need to do the Candlelight Processional on a different night? What if we can't get the Fantasmic Dining Package? What if. What if. What if.

Now, I will state here that I am a firm believer in the "everything happens for a reason" doctrine. At 8am this morning, I picked up the phone to call Disney and drop the Deluxe. But then changed my mind. See, I'm thinking we could just eat CS at Animal Kingdom since there are no TS locations that catch my fancy, pay for Flame Tree BBQ out of pocket, and pick one 2 TS location (currently Citricos) to pay out of pocket and one 2 TS location (currently CRT) to leave on the dining plan. At 8 am, I picked up the phone. Got half way through the voice recognition responses, and the phone died. :scared1:

So, I just decide to sit on it.

At 12:30 pm, I check my email to discover something I was not expecting: I would be paid for the week of teaching, but at a rate $10 less an hour than I made last year for the same job. One week worth of work. 40 Hours. In other words, a loss of $400. :sad2:

Suddenly, the what ifs, and why nots became clear. No Deluxe for me. I knew I could still pay for it--I could still do it financially, but the means of it would have to change. Add that to the fact that I intend to upgrade my park hoppers to annual passes on the last day, and I think I'm better off with the park hoppers. We were only going to do 2 oop meals anyway. Certainly not a good reason to add $812 to our package cost. I'm sure we can eat at Flame Tree Barbeque and Citricos for less than that. . .

Dh has been out of town this week. So, we have been communicating by phone about the trip. And last night, we decided to just no do Park Hoppers until we get there and gauge how bad the crowds were and just come home on the 23rd. When I called to make the changes today, the middle kid heard me.

So, the cat's out of the bag. They know.

Guess I need to change my title. Any ideas?

Sorry you won't be able to surprise the kids, but it will be fun for them to help out with the planning.

We are also in the wait and see mode with the park hoppers. I just hate to spend the $$ on it if we aren't going to use them.

Since the kids know, I've been racking my head all day about a new title. A few minutes ago, it finally hit me. If you have not seen the LOLCat site, you have to go there now. I love it. I visit the site everyday. Call it my foray into the comics for the day. The site is www.icanhascheezburger.com and the captioned cats are given thoughts (almost all of them misspelled and grammatically incorrect). I love the site! And from time to time, I speak in lolcat speak. So, the title hit me like a truck:

I Can Haz A Dizney Christmas?

Here are some examples if you've never seen the site

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/funny-pictures-all-cat-wants-for-ch.jpg

and this one. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/funny-pictures-cat-stops-christmas.jpg

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

So, now that I have a new title, here's some excitment.

Number one, I decided to pizzazz up the Disney Box for this go round. The kids get to help now and I'm so excited that this little puppy can come out to play!

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0002.jpg

And then, there's the day's Mail Call. . .and I had a letter from . . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0003.jpg

I only know one person--ah--Mouse who lives in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Many of you have seen the changes to the Candelight Processional Dining Package. I have to thank my good ole buddy raider97 for pointing it out on her PTR, because with school starting this week, I have been out of touch with the DIS.

My first reaction to the: 2 TS credits, fixed menu, idea was no.

And then I remembered something.

I have never seen Illuminations.

Never.

Ever.

Plus, dh will know by then that he is a National Board Certified Teacher.

So, we'll pay one more meal out of pocket.

And do the dining package.

And hopefully, everyone else will wig out on it because of the changes and we'll get reservations at his favorite--Le Cellier.

First of all, thanks for the email yesterday! I appreciate it.

Secondly, we started school on Monday and it all culminated with a lockdown on Thursday because a person from a neighboring district brought a gun on campus. Long week, but it's over! I am still excited over the first week, though, and I am excited about the coming weeks!

As far as Illuminations:
Feb 2007--the wind was real high and though we thought the rope would be dropped for us to watch from the bridge between Gr. Britain and France, it was not. The kids were allowed to go up front, but I was in the back with my youngest. Who was asleep. I heard it, just did not see it.
Oct 2008--We were going to watch it after dinner at Coral Reef, but unfortunately dinner ran through Illuminations.
June 2009--The long and short of it was we were all tired out.

I AM going to see Illuminations this year.

Oh, you're not cheap. POR is actually the least expensive resort for a family of five, believe it or not, by a few hundred dollars. You'd think ASMu would be, but it is not.

I'm actually looking into a solo trip to POP or ASMo this summer. In the area of pricing them right now.

So, I had a complicated chart made where I looked at each restaurant, the costs, and which ones would be the least expensive out of pocket. Now our restaurants have changed ever so slightly, to these:

Kona Cafe (lunch)
Le Cellier (CPDP)
Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner)
Beaches and Cream (lunch)
Cape May Cafe (dinner)
Chef Mickey's (dinner)
1900 Park Fare (breakfast)

We have 6 possible TS credits on our plan, and 8 credits in our must-dos. Sadly, with CP being a 2ts credit, Citricos fell off of the list. With my complicated Excel chart, I have come up with these oop meals:

Kona Cafe lunch
Beaches and Cream lunch

And now that I look at it, the whole end result should have been obvious from the get-go.

But it, for some reason, wouldn't get through my thick skull. :headache:

Coming up. . .a newfound allergy and will that change my dining choices?

Hey! I think I found your old PTR before I was Dis-savvy and didn't sub to it- thus i fell off the face of the earth and never commented again- but I'm going to sub to this one! I am going to christmas in Disney for the first time this nov and dec, so I am looking forward to your thoughts and ideas to help me with my planning, since it seems like you've been there a lot!

Things look good so far-- too bad the secret wasn't kept, but it still sounds like such a fun trip!

My advice is try and pick the last meals to pay for out of pocket. This way if you decide to skip a meal you don't pay for one OOP and have a left over TS.

Your choices look great. I have got to buckle down and do the same, not much time before I'll be :surfweb: making my ADR's - 15 days to be exact!!!

Yay for 15 days!Everything is subject to change, of course, when Disney releases their hours, though.

I was really upset about the CP going to 2 TS!! I am not sure now what I will do??? I really want to do it, but not 100% sure we will...

I think if Illuminations was not included, we'd take our chances in the standby line. But, seeing as how it is included and I haven't done Illuminations, we are going to try. We have 2 Epcot days to choose from, and that helps a bunch.

My advice is try and pick the last meals to pay for out of pocket. This way if you decide to skip a meal you don't pay for one OOP and have a left over TS.

Prob is, we don't have that luxury. We have to have a meal every day--we aren't doing 2 TS on the same day. The oop expense comes from being at Disney 7 days, but having 6 nights of meals and 1 meal being 1 2TS credit. We were able to cancel one like that in June, but that's because we overbooked. We don't have that luxury this time. . .So I'm paying the lowest oop. They come in the middle of the trip, not at the end.

So, according to Tour Guide Mike, I have 109 days until my next Disney World Vacation. If that's the case, then it was high time I did my calendar for countdown.

I thought, all of the calendars I did, I've never saved one, so I decided this time to put it on scrapbook pages. I made one mistake, though--I use Creative Memories albums, and I did NOT use the 12X12 True album pages. So, I guess I will be moving the pages onto the right kind and possibly adding a border for the album itself.

But this is my creation. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0004-1.jpg

Also, I have not been happy with my camera bag--it did not fit enough in it. I saw the backpack camera bag at Best Buy I wanted, but with a $75 price tag, it was just gonna sit on that shelf.

I went to Sam's a couple of weeks ago and saw this bag, with a substantially smaller price tag. What do ya'll think?

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0006-1.jpg

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0007.jpg

It's plenty of room for the both the DSLR and the P&S we have. It also has room to carry small items. There's a zip section to pull out a waterproof cover (think Kali River Rapids) and even a lens cloth attached. I think I came out with a great buy.

I also got a new bookbag. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0008.jpg

This will be helpful for those small times that I need to carry a change of clothes--it's a perfect size for a locker.

And as for the Disney box--it's getting a little collection of sample sizes, and such--dh got a few Bath and Body Works samples. Soon I will be going through and making sure everyone has at least 3 wearable Disney t-shirts and adding those to the box.

We're coming right along!!!

:rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

On we go to the ADRs.

Now, Tour Guide Mike has been a little late this time around with his best/worst parks. I was patient and spent a great amount of time over at the TGM boards speculating the best/worst days. Turns out, the LCPs were published today and thank heavens I was okay with my decisions. I have some good plans and a couple of "okay" ones, but nothing blaring that I should be overly concerned about.

So, as of now, these are my plans. . .

Wed, Dec 16--no park--arrival about midnight

Thur, Dec 17--Hollywood Studios full day
Lunch--50s Prime Time Cafe (oop)

Friday, Dec 18--Magic Kingdom and MVMCP 3/4 day
Breakfast--Ohana
Dinner--Crystal Palace

Saturday, Dec 19--EPCOT 1/2 day
Lunch--Captain's Grill (oop)
Dinner--Tutto Italia (and no--I decided against the Candlelight Processional Package. I'm not gonna sweat it--I'll get a good spot right after dinner for Illuminations and see enough! ;)

Sunday, Dec 20--Animal Kingdom full day
Dinner--Chef Mickey's

Monday, Dec 21--EPCOT 3/4 day
Dinner--Le Cellier :banana::banana::banana: (oop)

Tuesday, Dec 22--Magic Kingdom full day
Lunch--CRT (obviously, no Citricos, but I want to have this experience with my family just once)
Dinner--LTT

Wednesday, Dec 23--Magic Kingdom 1/2 day
Breakfast--Crystal Palace (oop)
Dinner--1900 Park Fare

Thursday, Dec 24--Epcot 1/2 day
Lunch--Grand Floridian Cafe (oop)

We have 4 oop meals, which is fine, because even after I did the math, we still come out $400-$500 better than upgrading to the Deluxe Dining package. We wanted more meals, but not a whole bunch of signature meals. DD10 will definitely be ordering off the children's menu at Le Cellier, 50s Prime Time Cafe, and the Grand Floridian Cafe, and the cost of breakfast is not as much as dinner at CP.

My plans are to do a Dining Review this time around--I even bought a little notebook to take notes about the meals when I go to the room at night!

So, that's where we are now!

It'll be our 4th trip to WDW, but our first CRT meal.

So, this is the first of many, many changes that we will have. I am excited about the changes--we have less meals at TS, but because we added the Candlelight Processional, we are still about OOP wise equal.

Don't worry, we are paying the CRT and CP meals with the dining plan, lol.

Here is my snapshot itinerary. . .I printed it in grayscale, but you could still kind of tell the colors for Tour Guide Mike, so I did a little editing to fix that. ;)

Certainly, it all sounds cliche, but that is my feeling about returning to Port Orleans-Riverside. It's like I've been away for a long time, and now that I'm closer, I am so homesick. Homesick for the banjo music playing. Homesick for the sound of the Sassagoula River. Homesick for the smell of Disney.

And yes, there is a smell that only Disney World has. I first catch whiff of it when we stop at our typical exit in Daytona for gas and bathroom breaks. It is the smell of home.

And it's no wonder. I don't have to worry about cooking or cleaning or work! All I have to do is relax and live with the pleasure of being totally cut off from the rest of the world. Yes, it's no wonder I'm homesick. . .I am so ready to hear my favorite phrase of all time. . ."Welcome Home."

Here I am, in my own little world, happily planning my vacation. I was sitting at the local quick lube waiting for my car to be serviced, planning my trip. What they tell you is true. Never tell them (the car or the house) you are going on vacation.

Remember that.

Never tell them.

Never, ever, ever, ever.

Ever.

"Mrs. ________, your tread depth on your tires is 2/32. We don't recommend you leaving with those tires." :headache: So I kindly strike a deal in which they put new tires on my car and I in return don't put them on a credit card. Yep. . .I hand over 1/2 of the Disney money I had saved for the month.

By the way, the car runs great. . .real smooth.

So, here I am, with new tires, but needing to shave a few hundred dollars off of my trip.

I did the unthinkable. I shaved off two days--the 16th and the 24th. We still have 8 days of park tickets, but we are staying offsite on the 16th and 24th. All together, and using rewards points for the offsite hotel, the change saved us $400. And put tires on my car.

All's well that ends well, though? :rotfl2: I have to laugh at the situation, though. I'm ticked off about losing 2 days, when we are still staying a week!

Oh, and for those of you who want to know what has me so homesick. . .

Yes. That Christmas tree was at the middle of the ticker. Yes, that tree is now at the beginning. And yes, it says solo. And yes, the resort says Caribbean Beach Resort.

DH. Gotta love him. He loves football. He loves baseball. He loves football. He loves cooking. He loves football.

He does not love Disney :sad2:.

He wants to go to his friend's house for New Year's to watch the college bowls. The major problem with that, of course, was the fact that if he goes there, Disney would get shaved again, because that was too much travel for the entire family. So we hatched up a plan:

He sees his friend--by himself.

I go to Disney--by myself.

And my kids--who have been complaining about a lack of Christmas presents in favor of Disney--well, they get what they want.

When I sat down and told them what was going on, they said, "Good. We didn't want to go again so soon." :scared1:

So I called Disney reservations, and changed the trip to a solo trip. Then, I changed the booking code, because 7/4 is a much better deal with one person than free dining. Then, after much deliberation, I changed resorts. I absolutely love POR, but I want to be closer to a park this time, and the only mod that fulfilled that wish was Caribbean Beach. I have never been there, but I hear it's just lovely.

I also changed the dining to Deluxe Dining, and tickets to Park Hoppers. With all of those changes and our deposits, Disney now owes me $3.34 :rotfl2:. I told them to leave it on the room.

So now, it's just me, and I've redone my dining reservations. And ya know what? I'm excited! Now, I just have to figure out what to do with 4 extra tickets to MVMCP. . .I think I'll wait until it sells out (it will) and put them on Ebay.

Coming up. . .new reservations for dining.

I think it's about time I go it alone. I think that's going to be the best for me. I am nervous about staying at CBR, as I have never been there, and see the setup is quite different from POR and POP. But I will be there!

Oh wow! Talk about changes! It sounds like everyone is getting what they want for Christmas!

Did you change your dates? How fun...I would love to do a solo trip. :)

I did not change the dates. In fact, this change allowed me to stay on property all the days I wanted to, and get some great ADRs. I'm not worried about being by myself. Everyone wants to be by themselves. We don't have to get animal sitters twice this way--we have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 50-60 chickens. I just wonder what my house will look like when I return on Christmas eve.

With the resort/solo trip/dining plan changes, of course I had some (a lot) of dining changes. So before I slip off into dreamy-dreamy land, these are the changes:

Stay tuned. . .like everything else, the only thing constant with me is CHANGE. . . .

No, I haven't, but I'll go over there. I am not that good with change, but I looked up the directions and it is real close to POR, as well--same exit off of I-4 and all, so I think I'll be okay.

Have you called to try to get a refund on your MVMCP tickets? We were able to get our MNSSHP tickets refunded when we postponed our trip until Christmas. There's a thread with the phone number on the boards.

Also, if you get lonely during your solo trip, you can hang out with us.:rotfl2:

I have never been to CBR, and I am happy about the change, yet at the same time, apprehensive. I don't do well with change, so. . .

They were great about refunding my tickets--they had no problem with it.

I am looking forward to relaxing. I am doing a lot of Signature restaurants for meals and just planning on taking each day as it comes. Of course, I listed some dining locations, but they are subject to change. (Hoop dee Doo has already been replaced by Citricos, for example)

I too get DIStracted easily. I have found the old pen and paper route works great. There's no backspace or cut and paste, but it's the best route I have found to get it done! Then once you finalize it on paper, hope on the comp and (attempt to) get it in a doc.

Good luck :thumbsup2

After much inward battleing this week about going to Caribbean Beach Resort, I decided to stick with (almost) what I know. I am going to stay at Port Orleans-French Quarter.

You may ask why. I have never actually gone to POFQ, unless you count passing it on the bus and taking a wrong turn on the way to POR. Then, add the fact that there are clowns (or something like clowns) in the food court and I am deathly afraid of clowns. Ask anyone on the Tagless/Formerly Tagless Thread. I hate them. With a passion.

So, why POFQ? Well, there are several reasons, and although one doesn't seem as good as the other, they were enough to make my decision for me:

1. Proximity to Downtown Disney. I love shopping, simple as that.

2. I know where it is. I know exactly where to go without pulling up AAA TripTik. Seriously. I might not know the road names, but I can look and know where I am and where I should be.

3. MUCH smaller resort. This is probably what appeals the most. I think here I will feel as if I am closer to the grand scheme of things. And with me being by myself, I think that is important.

4. Themeing.

5. I can walk to my first home--POR.

So, there you have it. I will be staying at POFQ--same price, same everything. Coming up,

A nice Dinner, but WHAT WILL I WEAR?

I hear the decor is wonderful, as well! I've looked at pictures and I think I will love it there, as I really love cities with narrow avenues and small gardens and paved/cobbled walkways. I think I might have a little trouble leaving the resort, lol!

Aww...I'm sorry you are scared of clowns. They can be creepy. They are supposed to be jesters I believe...

That said I think it is a lovely lovely resort and perhaps a bit more adult in feel than it will be at CBR and I think a charming place to stay solo. I'd want that boat to DTD if I was solo too! I'd also want a smaller resort.

I think it is a great plan.

You might have to skip the food court. Or then again, use it as a way to get over your fear of clowns.

Kudos to Madilynn'sMomma for figuring out I was copying Jim Carey as the Grinch Who Stole Christmas!

So, I have dinner on the 20th at California Grill. That's the good news. THe bad news? I don't have a clue what to wear to it. I will be in a park soon after and really don't want to be too dressed up, because I'd have to go all the way back to POFQ to change clothes. So I narrowed it down to 2 choices--each of these will be with black pants and I am coing to get some Crocs ballet flats to go with the black pants.

Choice Number 1:

Choice Number 2:

Choice number 2 is where I am leaning, because of the gold and because it is probably warmer.

I could also go whole hog with one of these:

I went there a few months ago for dessert and drinks with a friend and we both wore black gaucho pants and tasteful shirt and black flip flops. I don't think it's as fancy as people make it out to be. We saw people in jeans and polos. I would say wear something that you know you'll be okay to wear in the parks because chances are other people will be dressed just like you. We went at around 9pm to watch fireworks and then ate so it was a later time that we went as well and saw the people dressed like that if it helps!!

The weekend before last, I went to the Disney Store with the family, and I made a few purchases. I am still buying t-shirts, knowing I'll wear a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath if it's cold.

Here are a couple of my purchases. . .

I picked this up at Walmart--I need to get a couple more.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/101109004.jpg

I'm planning for a cold night at the Christmas Party, so I'm bringing this sweater along.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/101109010.jpg

If you look in the Disney box, this is my bag for the parks, but it is highly likely I will not be carrying a bag into the parks unless I am going to need to change camera lenses.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/101109012.jpg

And this is how the box is filled until last night, when I took another trip to the Disney store (pictures not taken yet), Kohls, WalMart, and Cato.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/101109002.jpg

Now that I have my meal plans, it's time to look at the day-to-day itinerary. I'll start off with day one--the travel day.

Now, I'm not all that good with sleeping the night before a trip, so the sooner I leave the better. Which leads me to my estimated departure time: 3:00am.

Yes, you read that right--3am. You might ask how I came up with this time. My normal wake up time for a trip has always been about 1:30am. I can go to sleep at 8pm, 10pm, even midnight, and I will find myself up at that unholy hour. The day before departure is a 1/2 school day for me, but a full day for the kids and dh. So, I thought I could go home, pack the car, and get some rest before picking up the kids. Then, I could clean house a bit, and turn in early--say 8pm.

Yes, that gives me a 5.5 hour night's rest, but I can't underestimate going home to take a nap the day before, nor my intentions to go to bed early every night that week.

So, this just leads me to my plans:

1:30am--up and get dressed/shower (not in that order)
2:00am--cup of coffee, check the DISboards one last time, and put my backpack in the car.
3:00am--depart home, giving dh a kiss on the cheeck before I leave.
6:00am--breakfast--McDonalds in Savannah area (will prob need gas here)
6:30am--back on road
9:30am--Starbucks in Jacksonville, FL
10:00am--back on the road
12:00noon--Should be coming into Disney World
12noon-1pm--Check in
1pm-2pm--head over to Epcot
4:10--dinner at Chefs de France
may go to Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic but will probably go back to the resort and visit there and sleep.

To put it mildly, the Disney binder is coming along swimmingly. Sunday I got a good deal together (before I changed my first ADR to Flying Fish) and printed it all up.

My Excel document. . .

Yes, it is laminated

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0001-1.jpg

My other copy in the binder.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0002-2.jpg

My Ridemax Plans all planned out. I usually don't follow them to the letter, but I print them and read them to get a general picture.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0004-2.jpg

The front of the binder. Yes, that is an old KTTW card, but I thought it would be a good identifier for the binder in case it gets lost.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0003-2.jpg

Then, I also went to the Disney store Friday to pick up a few things. First I saw the blankets there for $12. I thought of how great it would be to have one for the MVMCP. Last year if I had had a blanket during MNSSHP, I would have been much more comfortable on Main Street waiting for the parade.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0007-1.jpg

I got these t-shirts.

Mickey in silver on blue. . .
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0006-2.jpg

This one I got the gray tshirt at the Disney store and the under shirt (pink) at Kohl's.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0005-2.jpg

And well, the Disney box? It was getting full. So my clothes? You guessed it--t-shirts are now in the suitcase along with a pair of capris and a jacket. :rotfl2:

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0012.jpg

The Disney box now has more growing room. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0014.jpg

I finally found good comfortable shoes for dinner at Flying Fish and Cali Grill. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0011.jpg

And the backpack is a thing of the past. I have opted for a purse I bought over a year ago. It has a large area in it to carry things and I think I will feel more "grown up" with it.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0008-1.jpg

Mickey heads in the fabric. . .

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0009-1.jpg

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u256/creativeamanda/Christmas%20PTR/DSC_0010.jpg

Okay, okay, Mickey heads in the fabric don't exactly scream "grown up", but there you have it!

Have you seen the room only rates recently for the value resorts? Those rates are where I begin. I decided at some point that the whole idea of getting up at 3am was not one I relished. I had a 1/2 day at work the day before. Why not just go on to Disney? Of course, with the Deluxe Dining Plan, the thought of adding another day to my reservation meant perhaps obtaining a second mortgage. Before when we have stayed the night before, we have stayed offsite. I won't however, stay offsite just anywhere, and looking around, the lowest rates I found were in the $80-$90 range. And those were "iffy" areas in Kissimmee for me. Then I decided to look at those room only rates advertised on the main Disney page.

Where am I staying on December 16? A picture is worth a 1000 words. . .

Can you say $66.37 (including tax) for a room at Pop Century? Yeah. I booked it for one night. Of course, that does necessitate some dining changes--I'll be in the world a full day on the 17th--I'll go to POFQ, get my KTTW Card, and be at Epcot for ropedrop. :yay:

So, my friend, TarzansKat has a little business going on. She makes tie dyed Mickey shirts. I placed an order, oh, I'll say a little over a week ago. It took forever for my payment to clear Paypal (pesky bank rules), but afterwards, she was real quick on the uptake. I received the shirt today--she mailed it to me Saturday. It's currently in the wash right now, so no pics on me (they're coming), but I thought this would be perfect for my first full Disney day, considering I'll be checking out of POP Century. And I might pick up a piece of tie-dye cheesecake to celebrate. . .

Anyway, my school I work for's colors are red, white, and blue, and she did a totally awesome job separating the colors out. . .

Remember, she and I live on the same coast. I've noticed it takes no time for mail to go up and down the East Coast, but don't let me ever order anything from California! The worst is ordering from Lakeshore Learning Materials. I love their stuff, but I hate to order from them. And that's UPS!!!

I absolutely love it, too! It's in the wash right now. I pulled it out to show my kids how it does in the wash--the colors--all the pretty colors. She's started something, though. Stinky and Sweetie each want a blue and gold one (their school colors) and Boo wants red and gold (just to be difficult--I mean different).

I have the same issue, in reverse. Stuff from DH's dad and his wife gets here the next day (from CA) but stuff from his mom (CO) can take a week!

Which is why I'm HOPING for thursday (so I can wear it to zumba that night) but not holding my breath. I need it for Friday though!

I have not checked today's mail yet though. I'm kind of hoping it will start something actually. I want to get them for the trip but want "buy in" before I spend that kind of $ (x9 it will add up) so I'm looking forward to seeing their reactions. I did make my first iron on today though so at least have that finally figured out. I was having major transfer paper/printer issues.

I like making changes. It keeps people hopping, let's them remember that life happens sporatically. Helps me remember that. . .I'll never finish planning if I keep this pace up! :rotfl:

So, when we last left you, I have received my fantabulous (it's a word--just don't look it up) Mickey tie dye shirt. And I had added a day at the wonderous Disney's Pop Century resort.

Which did necessitate a change.

Or 10.

So, without further ado, my Day 1--Revised, and since I have no grapsp of time, I'll let that blow in the wind, lol

After my students leave, I hop in the car for Disneyworld
around 7pm--arrive and check in at POP century. Drop my bag in the room and drive over to the Grand Floridian to see Wishes from the beach and 8:40ADR for Grand Floridian Cafe(I'm just getting a bowl of French onion soup and bread).

10:30ish--bed

So, day 2 is breaking a long honored tradition that my first full day at Disney World be at Magic Kingdom. I want to be checking in early at POFQ, but given my drive the day before, I don't see it likely. So, I am settling for a late morning at Animal Kingdom after a yummy breakfast at Boma (10:35 adr).

So this is how the day will likely look:

Wake up--leave POP around 8-8:30am
Drive to POFQ--check in
Pick up refillable mug
Drive to AKL
Breakfast
Tour AKL
Spend a little time in AK (say 1-3pm) before I go back over to POFQ to get into my room
Change for dinner at Yachtsman--drive to Yacht Club
Dinner at Yachtsman--5:35pm
Tour Epcot Resorts
Walk along the Boardwalk
drive back to POFQ

Bed by 9:30pm

I have a long day the next day, and this day is going to be a bit tireing, but will mostly tour resorts--maybe 1-2 hours at AK, mostly to see Finding Nemo and Lion King only so it can be less of a rush-rush-rush day

Well, friends, I'll admit I've been thinking

(a dangerous passtime)

I know. . . :rotfl2:

I couldn't resist!

Anyway--I love the idea of going to POP century, but that day 1/day 2 thing and changing resorts has me tired just thinking about it today. So you all know what I did.

I called Disney reservations.

Somewhere in the background by now I must be on caller id and Disney castmembers are drawing straws to see which one has to deal with my eccentricities this time.

Anyway, I changed the room only rate from POP to POFQ. The total bill? $108. (minus my $66.37 I already paid) This is still less than the Comfort Suites I usually pay for offsite, which was $114 for that night. They attached the room only to the package and therefore I should not have to move rooms. I will make sure when I do online checkin, I try to make some kind of note and call Disney reservations to be on the safe side.

Then again, that only changes Day 1 and Day 2 a little. I go to POFQ. I will NOT be eating dinner at Grand Floridian--I think I will try when I get there for a reservation at 9pm or so for Boatwrights, but if not, I'll still go over to Riverside Mill and eat dinner.

I'll take the bus, not my car, to Animal Kingdom for rope drop to grap FPs for Expedition Everest and take a few pictures before I take the bus to AKL for breakfast. After breakfast, I'll ride some rides and then go back to the resort for a change of clothes. The good thing is, I don't have to think about unpacking, because I should be in the same room! That little change saves sooooooo much time on days 1 and 2. I am super excited about it and can't wait! 47 days, 5.5 hours until December 16, 2009. 47 days, 16.5 hours until I leave! :cheer2:

sounds good to me!!!! I love POFQ :) I stayed there for a long weekend with some of my WDW roomies and we had a blast. Even though we lived 15 mins from WDW it was sooo nice to be able to go to the parks and eat in the restaurants and sleep at the resort and lay at the pool!! Your AK plan sounds great! I miss the days when I could just drive to the resort, go see Lion King and then leave! Nemo is okay I guess lol. I can't wait to see what you think of Boma. I thought it was good, until I got food posioning, and now I'm not so crazy about it lol.

Food poisoning? :scared1: Maybe I should keep trying for Tusker House. I really wanted Donald's safari breakfast!

And I didn't like Nemo the first time, but I thought maybe 2 years removed it might hold something different for me.

I really like Day 2. It will be nice to stroll the Boardwalk and check out all of those resorts. You were smart to go to POFQ...for not much more money, you have less moving and checking in and more park time!

I love day 2, as well! I think I'll have a much more relaxing day if I don't have to run run run. If I'm on property, I'm on property, KWIM?

WELL worth the $108. For me to be in one room for such a short time is a bit exhausting in its own way.

OK, I might be crazy but I think we might have visited with you on a Disney bus last June....
We were on our way to SSR, it was night and we were standing close to where you were sitting and you noticed the lime green Mickey head on my bag.
Was that you?

SOme people learn to hate change. I have learned to embrace it. :rotfl2:

Welcome! And I hope to see you around at the resort. I am so excited about staying at POFQ, yet at the same time, apprehensive. I know POR well, and it unnerves me doing something different. I think that by chooseing a smaller resort, though, it will be better for me.

Yeah, don't even try to keep up with me. But it's fun to look back and see how many different changes I've made. Like ADRs and plans:

Yachtsman (d)
Grand Floridian Cafe (l)
Crystal Palace (d)
Whispering Canyon (b)
Chefs de France (d)
Narcoossee's (d)
Tutto Italia (l)
Cape May Cafe (d)
Kona Cafe (b)
Liberty Tree Tavern (d)
50s Prime Time Cafe (l)
Jiko (d)

Before Leaving--Pick up some ribs from Flame Tree BBQ for DH.

So, I think I am finally finalized with my plans. I have at least one rope drop at each park, one late night at each park, and a couple of sleep in days. I'm just ready to go already!

And yes, sadly, California Grill is gone. I just kept thinking about trying to do EMH at MK dressed up and it got lower and lower on my want to do list. In fact, I was dreading that day! Who wants to dread a day of vacation other than departure?

I'm about 8 hours from WDW, give or take 30 min. So I'll be back probably about 9-10pm on Christmas eve. I'm going to have everything ready to go before I leave--I'll actually be doing some Christmas shopping this weekend.

I keep reading about how people have not received their Disney packages and all of the sudden, I'm worried. Will I get mine? I have never had a problem, but there is a first time for everything, right? I mean, what's going on right now? Is it Disney? Is it USPS? Is it the wrong address? Is it a problem of the distance between the Disney mailbox and the receiver's mailbox?

I don't know--all I know is this: I want my Mickey Mail!

Oh, and 34 days, 14 hours, 33 minutes.

Well, I really don't know why I am doing that. . .it doesn't seem to make it come any faster, lol. I think you probably would want to have Disney resend the mail, btw. But that's just me and I'm obsessive like that.

Ah...the mailbox stalk. I know it well.

I know--they probably did not even send it out until today--they usually send it out at around 35 days, and since yesterday was a federal holiday. . .I think these holidays are going to make the Mickey mail take longer than normal. . ie--Veteran's day, then Thanksgiving, and then starting the Christmas holidays.

It'll be okay--I just have to keep telling myself that. :santa:

Mailbox stalking. . .a new game. Everyone should try it. :rotfl2:

Honestly, I'm glad dh is staying behind with the kids--he'll be able to get a lot of the last minute stuff done, but it will still be left up to me to wrap presents and have them where they belong. DH will get to put together bicycles all by himself. :santa:
