View Full Version : So, who will be up at midnight to see if a deal has come true on Disney's website?

I think I'm going to try and see if this happens for a deal tonight.

I need to make a revision to an existing reservation if any good deal comes along; so, I have to call. At least I'll know to get up early.

I am planning to check first thing in the morning. We have a ressie over thanksgiving that is already paid for, but every little bit helps. All of the chatter I have heard is asying there is a possibility of something dropping tomorrow or sunday.

Sorry to be the voice of doubt, but don't you think we would have heard something more by now? So far, I've only read 2nd hand accounts of people saying a CM or two said to look out for discounts, but I just don't think something is going to appear at the stroke of midnight. :confused3

The DIS and mousasavers.com usually give us a day or 2 "heads up" on the deals. I hope I'm wrong, though, and something is out tomorrow! :thumbsup2

some people calling travel CMs have been hearing comments about overtime will be approved starting tomorrow. Others have reported that extra staffing is going to be added shortly to the travel center. Also, there have been reports that the Disney website for vacation planning was down some time today getting updates and such. It would appear that something big is about to pop if you want to be optimistic about a new promo coming along.

None of this means it will happen, but I like to dream it will.

So, who wants to dream, too?

I called AAA here and their Disney system was down and they couldn't do any booking for reservations. Anyway, their office thought it might be because of prices increases which is not good news. She thought it might be the release of 2010 pricing for the new year coming through soon. There were other posts/threads stating about park ticket prices going up in August; so, this may be the reason the Disney system was down for some time today, too. Or, it could be both situations---there may be a price increase, but there may also be a new deal, too.

Anyway, the AAA agent was hoping the free dining got extended for the rest of the year, too. She did not have any official word on it yet, but she said she would e-mail me if something came through.

BUT....I have annual passes already and have rented DVC points to stay at OKW. Is there any announcement that could come that would actually help someone in my situation?

Well, there better be something soon we just cancelled our Sept trip :(and can't go back without a code. I called because we did get a December FD code a month ago in my husbands email but she said there was nothing there.....that maybe the code expired? She said everything was tied to your address.....not name but she only checked under address. Oh well....I guess we'll go in a year or so if no codes come out, but I can't imagine that they won't do something in this economy.

Not if you rented DVC points. With these deals you have to book with Disney, DVC members are not included. OKW is a great resort though.

After chatting with mutiple CM's the last two weeks as we work on a GG... here is what I've been told.

2010 pricing is going up - there will be work on the back end systems this week (I believe they said Aug 1st is the release date for 2010). Fall deals will be announced shortly - expect annual pass holders, then Visa, then general public.

As to whether the deals will be anything great - hard to say. I've been told our Free Dining PIN for December will likely beat out the general offer. So, who knows what's coming... I'm guessing a room discount or something along those lines.

I think the "big discount" for Sept is free dining. :confused3 I don't think anything else is going to be coming out for dates through Oct 3. I imagine most people at this point are waiting for something for check in after Oct 3, particularly for Nov and Dec.

I hate to keep sounding like a "nay-sayer", but I don't think there's going to be some huge deal that magically appears at midnight. :sad2: We always seem to get some warning on here and/or mousesavers before codes are released. Maybe tomorrow will be when we hear about it, but that wouldn't explain the "approved OT".

Anyway, I really hope I'm wrong since we've been waiting for a Nov/Dec code for months.

Ah darn. Ok.... still hoping though! lol I just dont get how everyone thinks "free dining" is such a great deal..... Maybe if you are staying deluxe but for me, the room-only discount is such a better deal.... when I did the math, 6 nights at POR with the room-only 35% off discount was like $630..... and I then called Disney to see what the price difference would be for 6 nights with the "free" dining at POR.... they told me $1300!!!!! How is this free?!?!? Now I know you need a ticket and since we already have tickets, we were just pricing for a 1-day base ticket, and still, $1300..... thats like $700 worth of food?!? Nah, I'll just pay for my food and it still wouldn't come out to $700.... just my opinion but free dining was not worth it for us.....

That is a pin code only for use for those who are lucky enough to recieve one. We are hoping they will release a general public discount that anyone can use.

Disney has, in fact, announced price increases to help offset sluggish business within the past few days. How this affects a possible free dining offer for mid october, I do not know.

I don't think though that you have anything to gain by staying up until midnight waiting to see if the boards change. The offer, should it come, will most definitely be there in the morning.:surfweb:

Get some rest and go at it refreshed.:yay:

Touring Plans is tweeting that they think it's free dining for Disney visa holders Thursday and general public Sunday. Regular dining plan for mods and deluxe and CS for values. They don't say this is *for sure* what it is. They say it's the rumor.

For some people it is, some people it isn't. It is a good deal for me because I have 7 of us. Even with dh's 40% off room military rate, free dining still works out to be a better deal for us.

this does not make sense to me as WDW has so much fixed cash they should want us all to pack the parks and hotels so we spend money on food booze gifts and misc- seems silly their excuse for raising prices for low attendence

Kids do make the difference. It also makes a difference where you like to dine. We make it a point of eating at some of the pricier sit down restaurants. I added up all of my receipts last year and our family of 4 saved about $900 using Free Dining. And to top that off, my youngest was only 2, so she wasn't included in the FD, but ate Free anyway at the buffets or ate free pasta or off of me and DH's plate.

WDW raises its prices every year in August. I don't think anyone should really be surprised about this. If business is really sluggish at any given time, they will just run more special deals (which I am all for :goodvibes).

You can upgrade and pay the difference. I think the difference is about $10 per adult per day and $2 per child per day.

This doesn't make sense to me at all. I would think that they would offer more discounts to get more rooms filled and more tickets sold. Once they get customers in, you have to eat and there is no way you're getting out of there without somekind of $$$ souvenier that cost them less than 50 cents to make.

My mom is a VP in insurance and she handles multiple Disney accounts. The last couple of times she met with WDW big wigs, she was told that guest stays were waaaay down and that they have lost a huge amount of business from European customers, especially from the UK. If you look at the UK Disney website, Disney is offering UK residents Free Dining PLUS 14 park days for the price of 7! Wouldn't I love to stay for 14 days and I would if they made that offer to US residents.

http://www.disneyworldoffer.co.uk/

This offer was just extended through mid-December. I'm guessing that Disney will be extending the FD promo for about the same time period. They did it last year. Then this past Winter/Spring offer (Stay 4, get 3 nights Free) kept getting extended over and over again. They dropped that offer just in time to introduce this years FD plan again.

I forecast that either the FD promo will be extended, or they will come up with some new fabulous offer. My mom's insider info tells me that WDW powers that be have to do something to keep bodies in the resort.

So if they increase the prices, I think they will still have to offset that hit to the consumer by making some big promotional splash too.

Just my opinion.:flower3:

System's down again...says "Sorry, vacation package reservations are temporarily unavailable as our system is undergoing maintenance. However, you may visit the Tickets & Reservations page to make room-only reservations or purchase Theme Park tickets."

Last night when the system went down you couldn't do anything at all. So I'm taking this as a good sign. (Of course, I'm waiting for deals for April 2010, so I'm just getting anxious for them to release the rates for next year...good luck to everyone waiting for free dining in December!)

Alas, I have nothing good to report about vacation packages.

I hope others have something better to report.

Another day of agony begins waiting for a code.

I got that too, but figure I will let my son play and enter, but I have to read the rules first since you might have to be a US resident?

Hoping for something good as well!

No, those are just examples.

BTW, I just got off the phone with a CM and she couldn't modify my existing reservations yet - it apparently isn't in their system even though you can book through the site. I gave her the booking code and she said the computer told her it doesn't exist. I have 4 exising reservations currently and I don't want to double-book, so I'm going to try back later in the day. If anyone else has any luck calling please post it.

I just booked our resort.

Of the 8 that I asked for 4 had no rooms, 2 had only very expensive (suite) rooms and 2 we could book. We booked the cheaper one. We could not get the first two choices we had, so we took our third choice (which was one of the 2 we could get.).

Well, I was really really praying for a discount today since we cancelled our Sept/Oct trip yesterday. Oh well, the wait continues.

I just called yesterday too and cancelled/changed our trip for those dates! I rebooked for 12/6-12/12. CM I spoke with told me, "Weeellll, if a discount does come out you can always call back and we will refund the difference." This was in response to having to cancel during free dining...so my fingers are crossed that there will be a FD deal again!

07-22-2009, 09:28 AM
I personally think that FD brings up merchandise sales...when a package is a set price, it allows spending money to flow a little more freely. If that is the case, it is great marketing strategy because people HAVE to eat, but they do not have to buy merchandise/souvee's. Especially now with most watching every penny.

I just got a package with dining at the passholder rate. It comes to about $700 less than the same items (room plus DDP) without the discount. This is for 4 nights at the Grand Floridian, Dec. 19-23. I do not yet have my AP in hand because I'm going to get it when I'm there in about 10 days. She told me it was a "Passholder Package" because I had the DDP.

I dunno if it's "free", because the room discount is less than the room only passholder rate. We're there from 11/26 through 12/5. From what she said (and of course she said that officially she knows nothing, but she's glad I'm booking today rather than Monday - limited # of rooms and all). Basically, it seems to me like what they did last year for Visa holders during this time - a room discount coupled with "free" dining.

The one downside was that I had to switch from POFQ to Coronado.

Rip, can you give us details of your package? I thought the discount was on the room only.

When I called, that's what I was expecting. Now, I called the passholder line because earlier I had called the regular line and she didn't even have the room discount code in her system. The lady first asked me why I wasn't taking advantage of their dinning offer with a room discount as well. Basically, I was checking in POFQ on 11/26 and staying through 12/5. My room only was 1311.00. With whatever she did - and it was a package - my total came to 1941.00. Same "level" of room, but added dining for 2 adults and 2 kids for the 9-day stay.

Last year I booked a room at POFQ before getting (or ordering) my AP. My initial plan was to pick up my AP during that trip, but then took a spur of the moment trip and got it earlier.

Here's what I learned though...you can book an AP rate (over the phone only) without currently having an AP. You must be able to produce an AP sometime during your stay (preferably at check-in.)

According to the CM I spoke with, it's both a room discount and "free" dining, it's just that the RD is less than for a room only stay.

My big concern is that the rate will be good only for a "select amount" of rooms at each resort, and if those are all taken, I'd still have to pay the non-discount rate... Or does having a room already booked there guarantee you the new rate?

I was calling because I was trying to help a couple who are Florida residents. I was doing this in preparation of the so-call deal coming out tomorrow. My concern is that the Florida residents get the cheaper deal on park tickets then what is offered in the package deal (the magic your way tics) for a promo.

Anyway, I hinted that I was doing this in preparation of the promo coming out tomorrow to the CM. I then laughed and asked if this could be true about a new promo. Without down right telling me in black and white the CM indicated there would be a deal coming without exactly saying it totally to me.

It's probably so confusing because there's a lot of info/rumors flying around out there!

Here's what we know for sure: Today AP rates were released. If you have an AP (or plan on getting one) you can get a discount on the room with the option to add dining.

The rumor is that something (free dining?) is about to be released for Disney Visa members (first, likely) and then to the general public.

Keep posted here for the latest info...you can call CRO at 7am EST, but more than likely you'll hear it here first. A lot of times people call and the CMs haven't even heard of the new codes, so these boards are a great place to find them!

I wish I could, I'm only going by what the CM told me, but looking at the passholder part of the site the current deal for passholders is not free dining, it's just a room discount with dining added at regular price. Last year, they did offer free dining with a room discount if you had a Disney Visa from the beginning of October through mid-December, with some dates blacked out.

You had to book it as a package, and if I'm not mistaken all you had to do was have at least 1 day of park tickets, which you can use towards your AP renewal.

ERV...
the "passholder package" is typically where AP holders are able to just add dining to their room. It is only offered to AP holders, and is with a special AP rate, like the one that was announced today. So, if you have an AP (or will getting one for your trip) then you should be able to call & book the room, and add the DDP to your ressie.

No, you couldn't use both. The CM told me there was a room discount in addition to the free dining with this package, but it was much smaller than the usual room discount. What it really was (now that the website is back up I was able to price it out) was only a few dollars less than adding dining at the regular price to the AP room only discount. I guess those few bucks were the room discount :confused3.

We are in the same boat. We currently are booked with a FD Pin. Last year we had the VISA FD and there was a room discount built in to the offer but I it was very difficult to figure out the actual room discount. It was nothing like 40 percent; it looked like it was around 10-15 percent. I do know that the FD I got this year (which is at rack rate) is definitely more than expensive than last year even taking into consideration that room rates went up. The VISA FD (if there is one) may not have the discount this year if the rumors are true that it will be released to the GP a few days later. I will probably just call if VISA FD comes out and see if there is any difference.

Some here are saying Friday; so, now, I'm confused. Help!

What day is it for it to start for Disney Visa Holders?

I don't think anyone really knows. :confused3 I've read both Thur and Fri too.

Would they need to take their whole site down for 12 hours just to add a notice about a VISA discount? :confused3

I just read (I beleive) every single note on this thread but I'm still wondering something.....

I'm a Disney Visa cardholder. I already have a reservation for the Poly Dec 2-9. If they offer a discount, can it just be applied to THAT reservation or does the resort still have to be available to rebook it? I read someone said that the Poly and WL had been picked over so they had to book another resort. When I check availability (regular rack rate) for those dates it still shows availability. But in anycase, can the discount just be applied to a current booking or does it not do any good that it's already reserved? I booked that darn room last AUG!! haha

THANKS!!

Don't worry--you can just apply the discount to your current reservation. If you've already paid, they will credit the difference to the card you used.

The Disney Visa website was down when they added the current 35% off deal that is available through Oct. 3. I don't know if that means the same thing this time, but it could.

My experience is that it isn't as easy as just "applying" the code on an existing res. Codes are put out there to fill remaining rooms, and there are a certain number of room types available for each code.
Maybe some codes are different, and maybe I'm wrong, but you always read about people having to change resorts or dates to get a code, so just adding it to any existing reservation doesn't always happen.

Sorry! I hope I'm wrong about that!

It just depends if there is any availability in the resort you are currently at for the code being offered. This happened to us last year. We had Pop booked and the GP code came out for November. By the time I got through, I ended up having to change to AS Sports, but I saved $600 and added a night. Hope this helps.

She said Friday for visa cardholders and Monday for the public. They did not offer this to the public last year for this timeframe. And notice I put scare quotes around "free", because, basically, we got it for $630 rather than $1000 or whatever it would have been.

whoa, i've been off the boards since early this morning and just read the last couple of pages... lots been going on today!

Question... sorry if it was already addressed on an earlier page that I am just too dog tired to go back and read tonight, but... do folks think this possible Visa offer is only through the end of this year or will it be going into the first couple of months of 2010?

Thanks for the clarification!:worship:

Probably just through the end of the year. (Can you even book 2010 yet? :confused3) But most of the deals go Oct-Dec, and Jan would be a new deal. Jan/Feb is usually pretty quiet, so you might even see something better, like a repeat of the 7 for 4 deal!

Hey everyone, just joining in!!

Do you guys recommend getting a Disney Visa, for discounts??

Absolutely - you do get a day or two head start on any discount codes released.

The interest rate for regular purchases is not the best (actually mine just went up a few months ago) but you can put your trip on the card and no interest for 6 months. When I opened ours - I thought the interest free would be just for one trip but the second trip went interest free for 6 months and when I booked our last trip - the CM reminded me that if I used Disney Visa for this trip - it would also be interest free for 6 months. I just make sure we don't use it for anything else unless it can be paid off soon.

They also have Disney reward bucks that you can earn from regular purchases and then use toward your next trip. I stay away from that because of the higher interest rate if I don't get it paid off immediately.

The phones are so busy because all sorts of people who are going in August just received pins for upgrades from values to SSR or OKW. I guess this is why they staffed up (you know, all that talk there's been about overtime?).

Well, I believe that they "block" a certain number of rooms for each discount.

I plan on being up early and IF a code is released, will call immediately to update my existing reservation if the math works out to be in my advantage.HTH!

Looks like we will be there the same time. We are going Dec. 6th-11, maybe adding on an extra day!:)

I currently have a room only ressie at Coronado Springs for late Oct./early Nov. with a AAA discount. If a Disney Visa discount is released for my dates can I apply that discount to a package with dining? (I know that the dining part of the pkg wouldn't be discounted). If I am saving money on the room I might be willing to pay for the dining plan. Just wondering if the Visa discount will be a "room only" discount.

I was told somewhere on Dis that with the AP discount that just came out, yes they were able to add on the dining plan. The discount, as you said, is for the room only but you can add the dining plan on if you want (and tickets of course). So I would ASSUME it'd be the same with a Visa discount. At least that's what I'm praying for!

ANYONE know what time Disney is open to take reservations in the morning or are they open 24hrs a day? And if they are going to announce the discount, is that done in the morning too or sometime after midnight tonight????? Need to know when to set my alarm clock! popcorn::

You're right...you are able to add dining to the AP discount (without tickets) and you will also be able to add dining to a Disney Visa deal if it is indeed a room discount that's offered...I guess there's a possibilty of Disney Visa free dining still, too.

Reservations open at 7am EST. Hopefully if a code is out, it will be on here, because if you call without it, some CMs might not be willing/able to look it up. :confused3

I do know that when codes have been released, they show up here (like on the Oct/Nov/Dec Code watch threads) before mousesavers usually and long before Disney Visa sends an email. I wish I knew when exactly they come out and how the first person finds it, but these boards are pretty much the best bet, IMO!

I just wish I knew what the code was and that it was coming out for sure!

We just got back from AKL today. I called last night and booked a bounceback for Christmas. While I was talking to the CM she said to keep looking for discounts, something better was coming in the next week or two. Then she almost corrected herself and said, it could even be sooner than that. I tried to push, but she said just keep watching it would be worth it. I had mentioned earlier in the conversation we had gotten free dining last Christmas, which made me wonder if this was what she was talking about?:confused3

Well...what they mean is you can use one or the other....but not both. Figure out which one is a better deal and go with it. Depending on how many of you there are and where you are staying FD isn't always the best deal. I would have rather gotten a room discount but I will take ANYTHING!!!!

Was your pin code for FD? If it is than there is no need to switch it over to the Visa FD.
I have the FD with a pin code. From what I have read it is basically the same deal except with the FD pin code you can get the regular DP with a value resort, but with the Visa FD, you can only get the QSDP. So if you are staying at a value resort that may be why she said you have a better deal. :thumbsup2

You have to sit down and do the math to figure out which is a better deal.

Here are the dining plan costs per night.
QSDP: $29.99/adult $8.99/child 3-9
DDP: $39.99/adult $10.99/child 3-9
Add the total cost of your dining plan to your current AP room only reservation to figure out your total cost.

To figure out your cost with free dining, go to the Disney website and figure out your cost for your vacation without dining. You'll need to purchase 1 day MYW tickets per person to get free dining. Make sure to go to package quotes and then change your tickets to 1 day base tickets. This will be the cost of your free dining package. Book whichever is the better deal.

its 3 in our family. 2 adults and an child but shes only 1 1/2

Ok, so your DD is free on the plan, and for the adults it's $40/day/each, so $80 times 3=$240, which includes tax. Just add that to your current price. (And that's for the basic dining- 1 QS, 1TS, 1 snack).

Oh, and for the other part of your question, it depends on what your AP rate saved you, and what type of dining plan you'd want.
