I am new here and want to book a cruise but I don't know when because I am worried about hurricanes. My fiend trip was ruined because of a hurricane and I don't want that to happen to me! I want to go in the summer because I really don't like to pull my kids out of school. Thanks for all your help!:Pinkbounc

Well, hurrican season actually starts June 1st until November.

I have sailed three times in July and early August and have never had a problem. Most storms seem to happen late Aug/Sept/Oct. Was your friend on a cruise or a land vacation.

Most cruise ships can steer away from bad weather, they may have to change ports but cruises don't normally get cancelled due to hurricanes. Keep in mind that summer is an expensive time to go. The best deals are in the fall but then you would have to take kids out of school.

We cruised at the end of Sept/beginning of October last year. Weather was great. Keep in mind, hurricane season is 6 months long, if you're going to go by that, you're excluding alot of travel-time choices. We're booked for Sept. 8th this year and I'm not worried about hurricanes. They'll divert the ship if the weather is going to be that horrendous.

As others have mentioned, although the Hurricane Season officially runs from June 1 to November 30, the peak of activity seems to be from mid-August to mid-October.

Dave is right. Look at this season, we are almost into July without even a true tropical disturbance.
