If you can`t get enough table service choices on the free dining plan in september can you still use the credits for a counter service meal?

we have done this for past 3 years including last year but wonder if this has changed.

If you're going during August/September/early October free dining - nobody knows, or likely will know, until the promotion starts whether Disney is allowing the use of TS credits for CS meals during that period. It's not a "still", it's something they do temporarily during that period only.

If you're going at any other time, most likely no.

I missed out on my last TS meal because of a migraine - the rest of the family went. On departure day, they allowed my to use that TS credit for one CS meal. Not a bargain, but at least I didn't lose it.

There is another thread here about the same situation, but I'll shorten my answer here: yes, we've done it twice before, once in january and once in december. Both times it was no problem. It's not the best value for you as a guest, but they were very accommodating about it (why wouldn't they be, you're choosing the less expensive option!)

I usually mention to use caution when using this option because according to all reports it does not work at all times everywhere. At many CS you may be permitted to just cash in a TS credit, but there have also been reports of those who tried it by just walking up to a CS and paying with TS credits, and were turned down - because it's not a specifically set out rule of the dining plan that you may always do this. It may depend on the restaurant you go to or even on the cashier you get.

It's usually suggested that to be more certain (unless you are traveling during the free dining period, where Disney specifically announces that dining plan users may trade TS for CS plus extras - any other time you won't get any extras like snacks, just a one for one trade) that you ask your resort concierge desk to convert the TS credit to a CS credit before you go to the park (Even then, the concierge might do it, or they might tell you they can't). That would help to eliminate the possibility that you may approach a CS cashier in a park and be told you can't use your TS credit for a CS.

Concierge at POR told me they do not convert TS to CS -- said it is not possible to do a conversion. They did let me use TS for CS at the food court without any question whatsoever but I realize this isn't always the case.

And like-wise, they allowed us to exchange our left over CS meals for snacks. I think it was 2 snacks per credit. Again, not the best bargain, but I brought home mickey rice krispy treats to my nieces and nephews!!

I was able to swap a TS credit for a CS and a mesh WDW bag. This was last year during free dining, though, so it most likely changed.
