Hilton Head Beach Parking Question

We stayed at Hilton Head the last week of May and loved it. The week was cool and the beach parking lot was half empty most days. However I noticed a sign that made it seem as if the lot was shared by DVC and the Palmetto Dunes Community. Does parking become a problem in the high summer season? The lot did not seem very large.

We were there in early June and didn't have any problems parking. Even though it says that oneside is for Palmetto Dunes acces I don't think it gets much use since Palmetto Dunes Resort is so close by. Also it seemed when we were there alot of people would ride their bikes to the beachhouse.

Also I didn't notice until half way through the week that there is parking underneath the beachhouse.

As part of the deal to get that property, it is shared as public beach access and the parking is available to anyone.

We've gone over the 4th last last 4 years (and leave for HH in a few hours again :) ) and the parking is at a premium much of the day.

Since the resort provides a convenient shuttle, it does help alleviate some of the problem. From 10-4 the parking can certainly be a challenge, since resort guests are competing with the public access locals.

Go early or late, but avoid the need to park during the busy hours if at all possible.

When we were there last month, we parked under the Beach House. Where else is there parking? Interesting that no two people gave us the same directions to get to the Beach House :), but we found it!

We were there last year in mid-June and went to the beach at all times of the day. We always found a place to park whether it be in the garage or in the parking lot. I was a bit concered about this, but it worked out well. I don;t know if the time of year had anything to do with it though.

What to people could not tell you to go straight until you get to the beach house?? And it is not really public, it is for residents of the PD. You have to go through a guard to get to that area. It used to be a public access. We used to stay in the kind of yellow units across the marsh sort of behind the mall. Disney's beach house was where we parked.

We're there late May, and have no problem. Actually most people are not aware of the undercover parking. So most of the time, the outside parking is semi full while the undercovered ones are all available.

We have a van that does not fit in the garage yet we have never had a problem finding a spot. We often go in the summer or on school vacations.
On Tuesdays when they haveextra pool activities they usually suggest using the shuttle but even on those days we've never had a problem!
