Help please! Updated 6/29

I am looking for someone to help out Tkyes on the CB. She has a friend who is dying of cancer (very young, 25) who would love to take her children to WDW before she leaves them motherless. I have some points I can borrow to donate 3 weeknights, but am wondering if anyone else is interested in giving up another few points to give them a little more time. I am thinking September or October (cheapest points) at OKW. I don't know how to post the connection to the orginal CB post, but if you search for "Can you help?" for a post by Tkyes, on the CB you will find it.

Update, I just found out they will need a room for 6, so we need more points than expected, and we are now shooting for July since her condition is NOT good! I know we must have a few more DVCers willing to be good samaritans!!:cool:

Come on guys, this young mother doesn't have lots of time. I can tell you Tykes is an honorable person. We have met at the Minnesota DIS meet. I will post this on the UK DVC board too.

We are extremely new at DVC, in fact we are so new that we have'nt used our 1st pt. yet. My point is that our use year does'nt actually begin until Aug. 1 BUT we have purchased an add-on of 50 pts. that are in the current use year and will last until Aug. 1. We are not going to use those 50 pts. and would be very glad to pass them along to the young lady with children. We had contemplated trying to sell the pts. at a reduced price and figured why try at such a late notice. We have all the paperwork on the purchase, sent downpayment, first payment I think is in July and dues are scheduled to be payed in Aug. It is my understanding that we can use the 50 pts. now. Our lack of experience leaves me a little vague at all this stuff so I have to trust yours and this forums experience over mine so just let me know what I need to do to get these pts. to the young lady. I hope the pts. will be of some help. Please let me know. I feel like the good Lord was holding us off on trying to sell these pts. for this very reason.

I can only speak for myself, when I say that unfortunately, I can't participate in this. It sounds like you are trying to do something good, but in this day and age, when there are so many scams out there, I am reluctant to donate to someone I don't personally know. I don't know about everyone else, but 40 points is a lot for us. I am personally aware of one situation where a caring group of Disney lovers helped pay for an ill woman's trip to Disney with her child, and the whole thing ended up being a scam. There are many organizations that provide Wish Trips to the terminally ill and their families. I wish this woman and her family the best of luck.

I can assure you this is NOT a scam. A lot of Tkyes co-workers are involved in this. The young woman is also a co-worker of Tkyes. If we all felt everything was a "scam", no good deeds would ever be done. I don't know this person either, but faith and trust have to play a part sometimes.

We, unfortunately, do not have any points available until 10/03 when we can borrow 2004 points. If I had the points available I'd give you all 150 and am heartsick that I can't help. Please let me know if there is something else I can do.

Just had a mammogram scare of my own. There is such a sinking feeling when that letter arrives with phrases like, "an area of possible concern." It can't be happening to me. It's a long wait for the repeat film and then the word, "normal", and the thought, "I'm going to live".

I don't know Diane or Tkyes but certainly I've read many of Diane's posts. What a small thing to ask in the overall scheme of things, a few points to give these kids and their mom "the trip of a lifetime." If it turns out to be a scam, I've lost a few points; if not, well, I've shared some of the Disney magic .

Thanks so much fkj2!! We are only needing 20 more points to give them 5 weeknights in a 2 bedroom at OKW. I spoke with Tkyes on the phone this morning, and they are also contacting WDW to see if something can be done on that front too. If you go to the "I need help" thread posted by Tkyes on the CB, you will see the poster put together by their workplace. This young woman is dying of malignant melanoma. A reminder to us all to WEAR SUNSCREEN!!

To all who responded!!!

We have 150 points now for a Sunday through Friday stay for the family. We will need to do some transfering of points into 2 accounts so we can get the reservations made on Monday, but all seems to be in order!!

Member services was very interested in what we are trying to do and said they would help us along the process with linking the ressies etc.

I have yet to post on this thread but have been watching it.

I never imagined in my wildest dreams that when I posted for suggestions on how I could make this trip for my coworker and her family possible, I would have people donating their DVC points to make it happen.

You have no idea what this will mean to her and her family.

I can't say it enough how wonderful you guys are. You have brought me to tears and made me realize how truely special people can be.

We just got back from Sun. school and our lesson today was about doing kind things for others without expecting anything in return. I thought it would be appropriate to bring up how all these people got involved so quickly and pooled their resources to help your friend. It goes to show that there is still goodness and kindness and love left in this world. God has a way to make all things work.

Adding my two cents...I started the Mickey SOS program back in 1996, and DVC members have continued to be the most generous people I've ever encountered. My first online friends were from the AOL DVC boards, and for what they couldn't send in soap, they made up for in stickers, markers, notepads, beanie babies...the support was tremendous. Our first Boston "bagging party" yielded 25 goodie bags and we were thrilled. Our last yielded 429 - over 5000 bags now in total. There isn't a day that goes by that I'm not amazed at how kind people can be.

Way to go, Diane and Tkyes! I've been watching this thread, and I'm so glad it all came together. I wasn't surprised though. :D

diane, that is great! I'm so glad every one was able to come together and help. I wish I had been able to help out but unfortunately my points are not available until 3/04!! Maybe I can in another way.

BTW, I have known Tamie (tkyes) for over a year and a half from the Community Board and feel I "know" her pretty well. We connected because we were going to be in Disney at the same time ( back in 1/01). While we were there, we wanted to meet each other but were both a little leary back then and never did (What a mistake!). Since then, we have emailed back and forth with each other regarding every day things. Whenever I wanted to share something in my life, I knew I could email her and she would always respond in a positive light.

My point is, that Tamie is a true angel and believe me, the points that all of you have donated will be put to the use they were intended for.

I am admiring all that you are doing. This is so hard to read because all around me right now there seems to be someone who has either passed on, someone else is getting treatment, someone else had cancer return and had surgery or waiting to get tested on again to see if what was left is benign or malignant. Would love to help in stocking up fridge or help in donating toward passes. God Bless you. I know my friend called me her son's surrogate mother because I practically took over with her son while she became a caregiver for her DH.
