Anyone else see this? According to Mouse Planet, RFTT and ToT are going to be replaced with one major event. About halfway down the page, under "quick takes"
http://www.mouseplanet.com/8915/Walt_Disney_World_Resort_Update
What do you think? Would you do it? It's so hot that time of year I cringe at the thought of a longer race in that heat.

Someone else told me about the rumor but thats all I've heard. Maybe they'll bring back the Minnie 15K and have it in the fall, that would be great!!

My guess is they will have another Half Marathon in October. I hope it's not another female only event no offense to anyone. Maybe a special Medal for doing both January and October? More bling? That would be sweet.
I would totally want to do the race either way.

I would consider doing this race. October is my wedding anniversary so it would be two good reasons to make a trip there!

It may not be a running event. They used to do an inline full and half marathon, maybe bring that back. I would say a cycling event but it is pretty flat and not hilly enough really.
If I had to guess I could see a pirate themed Halloween run. It would go well with the Pirate and Princess theme parties and then there would be both a Pirate and Princess half. Maybe some bling for doing both of those to get more men to the Princess?
That is completely speculation...it may not even be true. Do we know if Jim Hill started this rumor? :rotfl2:

Selfishly speaking, I hope they don't do away with RFTT and ToT because I haven't had a chance to run either yet. But of course if they add something new I would probably do it.

Oh I don't have a problem doing the female/Princess race at all it's the negative comments I read about men doing the race that would keep me out of it (Both from people who did the race and spectators.) I don't do well when I'm being yelled at and not for. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I don't see what the problem is with men in a so called womens race :confused3 its not as if you are running without any cloths on :rotfl:
The Princess race is aimed at women, but as there is no Prince race men can not be stoped from entering and I don't think they ever should be.
Did people complain at the male escorts?? The 2 I had where fantastic, how about the male medics??
If a woman really can not run with a man without getting embarresed, then I don't think she will be enterting many races!!!!
I like to have men in a competition, as when I race its the men I try to beat, as most of the time it is the men who are faster.
If Disney did have a male race I would be there!!!!!!

Chris - I can't belive you've heard so many negatives about men runnign in the women's races. (Not tha tI don't believe you) I think it's great. I think htey should leave teh #1 spot for a female, but besides that, it's all good. What matters is what WISHers, think. ;) Go for it!
I'd probably get down fr a new half in teh fall. WHile it is hot, so is January a lot of the time. PPlus, a half would do better that time for the year for people trianing for the full.

I was at the Princess 1/2 and my DH ran too. We both had a great time and will probably run again next year.
He didn't have any problems except for one minor misunderstanding. For those who don't know us, my DH's nickname is Butch-- based off of our last name, not really any stereotype of someone with the name Butch. Anyway, Chester was out in his awesome scream team attire and yelled loudly "go Butch" as DH ran by. A few of the women running nearby gave Chester some really evil looks until DH explained that he was in fact the "Butch" to whom Chester was screaming.:lmao:

It seems strange that Disney would build up this "Fall Series Challenge" for 2009, and then just stop doing 2 of the 3 races that the challenge includes.

Any rumors about which weekend? RftT has worked well for my family because it's the same weekend as the kids' Fall Break from school. A Pirates HM would be so much fun, but it won't be worth the trek down if the dates don't work for us. The Princess HM is a week or two away from our Spring Break (and we live just far enough away that we can't justify back-to-back trips), so I really hope the Pirates HM doesn't fall the same way. I'd love me some pirate bling... or would we have to call it "treasure" instead of bling?

Id definitely be in for a pirate half - but I really, really hope Disney comes up with a new half course.
I'd do it too, as long as it didn't clash with MCM.
I've allready told my DH if this happens he can run in his davy jones costume!!

And with the changes to ToT I'm still interested in doing it again in the future if reports continue to come out that it's even more fun/themed than the 1st year.
Maybe I just need to move to the area :lmao:

Well, my bling weakness got the better of me. I've lined up a roomie and registered for the RFTT and ToT based on the rumor mill. I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a once-in-a-lifetime Fall Challenge medal (so they're probably going to have one for the next 40 years! :rotfl2:).
That's a really long drive to make TWICE in a very short time. I hope I REALLY love that medal. :)

I heard this rumor and am sad that I haven't been able to do Rftt or Tot. So... I'm contemplating do Rftt this year although neither DH nor I am employed! Short trip just for the bling! :thumbsup2 Hopefully DSIL can work out finances to make it a short girls weekend trip!
I'm waiting to hear from her before I sign up... If not, I'll go it alone. A nice weekend alone at the world wouldn't be too bad either!

I have a feeling they will. Someone at Disney sports has been talking to Elite racing. I am doing 3 of their events this year and will end up with 6 metals for it.
Ok, I usually know my Disney lingo but RP track? Can't pull that one out.
Is the rumor that this will replace both the ToT and RFTT or just one of them?

OK, I can help with that one! RP = Richard Petty track.
And I agree, gotta love the bonus bling, but I am guessing they will hold off on the extra medal until 2011 since the draw of an inaugural will be enough for 2010.

:scared1: I hope that Disney do not go over to Elite racing as I will not be allowd into any of the races as they do not allow cranks!!!!! at least with Track Shack I can as an exhibition. Now if only they would pay for the insurance to let us compete:rolleyes1

I didn't mean talked to them about running the events. I just meant it sounds like they kind of stole the extra medal idea from them.
I am doing the Indy in the spring and they have a lap on the speedway so a lap op RP won't be as bad as you think. Usually, the lap would be around the inside of the track which has little or no banking.
Thanks for the clarification.
Thanks for letting me know its about the medals!!!!! I was starting to get worried that I would have to change my races next year.

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to give you all a heads up that Race for the Taste is 50% Full and the Expedition Everest Challenge is 60% Full. The 3k during RFTT is also 50% Full. (I started a new thread, but with the discussion here I thought I'd let you all know too!)
Nothing listed for TOT 13k at this point.
Have a good one!

I may be reading too much into this, but I wanted to share something I observed today re this being possible last RFTT...
I downloaded the Food and Wine Festival guide from the Disney Website. The very last page of the guide has a heading that says " MAKE PLANS NOW FOR OTHER EXCITING DISNEY EVENTS"
For 2009 it lists dates and then these events: Mickey’s Not-So-Scary
Halloween Party, Disney’s Race for the Taste
10k and 3k; Festival of the Masters, Downtown Disney® Area, Children’s Miracle Network Classic (Official PGA TOUR Golf Event), Mickey’s Very Merry
Christmas Party, Holidays Around the World,
Then for 2010
March 3-May 16
Epcot® International
Flower & Garden
Festival
April 24-June 7
Disney’s California Adventure
Food and Wine Festival
September 24-
November 7
Epcot® International
Food & Wine
Festival
So RFFT is listed in 2009, but not is 2010..... Like I said, I may be reading too much into this, but I found it interesting.....

Just got home from the Chicago RnR expo - the Disney rep confirmed that this is the last year for RftT. She also said that the replacement race next year has not been definitely decided - it might be a 15K or it might be a half, and that it would probably be the first weekend in October. Time will tell! I just hope Disney posts the info in plenty of time to make a decision about next year - Denver Oct 2010 should be an inaugural RnR, and, well, you know me and inaugurals!!

Sounds interesting, can't wait to find out what the event actually is.
Hmmm, also makes me more inclined to to Rftt this year, if it's the last year it will be held. I wasn't going to do it again, but if it's the last time....and there's extra bling, since I'm already doing Expedition Everest....I'm going to have to give it serious thought.

Either way next year I will attempt to come down for the race, but I hope it's a half. I mean it's an Inaugural race so it has my attention. :rotfl: A 13k isn't getting them to rush down there so I would think a 15k wouldn't either, but what do I know (The Minnie did have alot of people.)
Thanks for the Info Pat and I hope your race went great!
I think the Minnie did well because it was aimed at women.
I think a 1/2 would be better, and in oct it would help get / keep you in race training for the marathon weekend and Princess.

LOL, I asked about this too. The rep I talked to said it was the last year for both RFTT and TOT and that they would be replaced by a half marathon in the fall. For now there are no plans to stop EEC yet. I was there on Saturday so maybe I talked to a different rep?
I was hoping whatever they add would be later to October to prevent any conflicts with the Baltimore Running Festival. Darn! I hope they keep EEC as I haven't gotten to do that one yet and was thinking of it for 2010.
