I will be going to Disney for the first time with my husband in December. We are thinking of getting the QSDP but are not big dessert people. Will we be able to substitute some fruit (if available) for a dessert at the counter service restaurants?

Thanks for all the help...so many of my questions have been answered just reading the threads and I really appreciate it!

I don't think there's an official policy on this. Most places have some sort of fruit available on the kids' menu, so you should be able to sub that in most of the time.

We substituted fresh fruit salads a few times at the food court at POFQ, I imagine that it's available at other food courts as well. Also, Sunshine Seasons had oranges and bananas and, I think, apples.

Thanks! I'll be certain to try substituting the fruit while we are there!

It depends on the location. We chose to forgo dessert at Columbia Harbor House, and the CM offered us fries, cole slaw or a bag of chips instead.

Depends entirely on the restaurant and perhaps even on the individual cashier you get. Most likely you will not be permitted to sub a side dish for your dessert, but possibly fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, fruit salad, applesauce, a single serving bag of chips or a bottle of water, stuff like that. At resort CS, especially food courts, there will be a lot of items from grab and go areas to choose from that might count as a dessert (fruit salads, apple slices with caramel, etc.). At park CS the selections are far more limited and you are probably pretty much restricted to the menu they have, but most have fruit (usually packaged grapes or apple slices, possibly fresh fruit pieces) available for kids meals and will probably allow you to substitute some fruit for dessert.

Thanks again...you guys are so helpful! I think we will definitely be going with the dining plan because it seems like a good fit for us.
