Better late than never! Disney Magic Western-April 18-25 UPDATE-9/6

I know it's been a while but I've finally resized most of my pictures so here we go!

DH and I wanted to do something different to celebrate our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. We went to WDW on our Honeymoon, Disneyland on our 1st Anniversary, and now a Disney Cruise on our 2nd Anniversary. I joked with the lady on the reservation line that I was trying to talk him into Paris for our 3rd Anniversary but he won't hear any of that! :rotfl2:

Our Itinerary:

Friday, April 17, 2009:

Fly out of New Orleans at 6:00 p.m. Land in Orlando around 9:00 p.m. We stayed in the Hyatt Airport which was really nice!

Board Disney Cruise Line bus transfer as early as possible!

Key West - 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

YAY trip day has finally arrived! I worked that morning but got off at noon. DH was off that day so all he had to do was finish packing and hit the road! I got home, we got situated, and we were off!

I wanted to be on the road by 1:30 p.m. and this is the closest that we got to it!

Ok so on the way, I was SO bored! It's a 3 hour drive to the airport and I was ready to BE THERE! We also hit a LOT of traffic in Baton Rouge.

SO, to cure my boredom, I decided to take pictures of Louisiana road signs of stupid town names. Just goes to show how intelligent we are here....

We got checked in at curbside by this RUDE guy who then waited around as if to say "where's my tip?" We gave him one but I didn't want to and I shouldn't have. He was incredibly rude.

As we passed the television screens, we saw that our plane was delayed until 7 p.m. We were supposed to fly out at 6:15 p.m. Ok not a problem so we went to Subway and had dinner. I don't think he charged me for our 2nd sandwich either. When I said something, he gave me the shhhh sign with his finger. I felt weird about not paying for that sandwich but whatever.

After we ate, we decided to check on our flight time.

Ok so I was on about our stupid flight delay. We found out that the plane was coming from Houston to New Orleans. Apparently the weather was TERRIBLE in Houston. I called my mom back home (right between Houston and New Orleans) and she said the weather was really really bad.

I would look back at the screen every once in a while and the time for our flight kept climbing back and back. It was really annoying.

So, I decided to make good use of my time and put together my fish extender bags. I didn't do this before we left home because I had to make 48 of them and I didn't want Security freaking out on me and request to check every single little bag like they did to Heather and I for the January meet.

Ok so I finished the bags, listened to my Ipod, called my mom again, then watched most of the movie Fireproof on my portable DVD player before the plane finally arrived. We didn't take off until after 10 p.m. I don't think we ever got that crazy weather that I could tell....

I was really bummed about us leaving so late because we were staying in the Orlando Airport Hyatt and I wanted to "explore" the airport...yeah well...that really didn't happen but whatever.

We landed in Orlando sometime after midnight. After collecting all of our luggage and everything, I don't think we actually got checked into the hotel until around 12:30 or so.

Check in desk. We did get an upgrade! I had just booked a standard room with a Hyatt Stay Certificate that I bought online. I'm not sure exactly what he upgraded us to. I think he said Business Select or something like that?

DH knew how sad I was that I didn't get to "explore" so he said let's go! I knew we couldn't do much cause it was so late but we could still go and take silly pictures! So that's what we did! lol!

The hallway on our floor had this tropical thing going on and it even had birds but they were "sleeping" (their cage had a cover over it).

We noticed this in the lobby as we were making our way downstairs so we went back up to the front desk and told the attendant that we were leaving in the morning for DCL.

He gave me a little card that told us what to do in the morning.

Saturday, April 18, 2009 - Embarkation Day!!!

We woke up Saturday morning ready to go! I had a really good nights sleep. Only problem is, I'm used to a huge king bed at home and this one was the size of a full bed. So I felt squished! lol! I think I may have woken up twice at night because I faintly heard planes flying overhead but it wasn't like I woke up and was wide awake. I was aware of the planes but fell right back asleep. We got up and got dressed and walked out to take a few more pictures of the hotel in the daylight!

We decided to run downstairs and get Starbucks for breakfast real quick. We still had about an hour before our bus was set to leave.

After we finished with Starbucks we went back to our room to make sure everything was in its rightful spot. Instead of leaving our luggage outside the door, we were instructed to leave it inside the door and someone would be by to pick it up. By this time, I had all of the green DCL luggage tags attached and we were ready to go!

Our bus! What was nice is that they didn't walk us ALL THE WAY over to the Magical Express area! We got off the elevators, walked out the back, and voila! There was our bus! Perfect!!!

Oh, this is sooo funny that you are posting this now. I haven't even been on the DIS in months and I just decided to check to see if I could get a fix with pictures and look what I found!

I have to tell you and Jason that my daughter has been wearing the pirate bracelet all weekend long! She won't take the thing off! She walks around with her princess eraser and the bracelet all the time! You were amazing to do this all! Oh and I just had the snickers bar the other day on my way into work on the train - it was awesome!

I know, I know, we are hoarders - but this way its a way to relive some of the magic if you save some of the stuff till later!

Thank you so much for making our cruise so magical!

Thank you! lol I wasn't trying to be offensive. I grew up (and still live) in the heart of Cajun country....I've very Cajun french as are most of my relatives. They all speak very fluent Cajun french as well. It's just that a lot of people who aren't used to our culture or our way of life come in and see road signs like that and think we are stupid dumb Cajuns! I agree...I think it's great that the french heritage is still strong here. I love living here and wouldn't trade it for anything!! :0) Thanks for reading along!

I was surprised at the amount of people there! We left the hotel around 9:00 a.m. or so and arrived a little after 10 a.m. I wanted time to be able to explore the terminal some!

The check in process was very easy! We got in line (wasn't a long line, either) and gave the man all of our pre-filled out paperwork.

He gave us our room keys and our number to board and directed us over to the photo area. They take a photo of you before you board and then each time you key in and out, your photo appears on their screen! Pretty neat!

After walking around and exploring, it was time to meet our DIS group over by the TV's. I had NO idea who was who so I was trying to keep an eye open for green wrist bands. A lady in our group ordered them for us and it was SO nice!

I heard a voice say, "excuse me, where did you get that wrist band". When I turned around, it was CoconutSunshine ... Jenny and her husband Sean. I was so excited to meet her! She's been a very faithful follower of my TR's on the DIS!!! For the rest of the time, we stood there talking to her and WAHkomom. (WAHkomom is the one who ordered the wrist bands for us!)

Before too long, it was time for us to board! I didn't realize that they weren't letting people board until 1p.m. I thought I had read on the DIS that it was earlier but oh well!

HappyGrumpy - I went through that in Feb! I hope you are doing OK - I had a very long, horrible recovery, I think because I was under anesthesia for so long because my gallbladder was so humungous it took them forever to get it out! I was so nauseous and unable to eat for days afterwards - I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy! So, I hope your recovery is better than that!!!

I left off at us making our way to Topsiders. We walked in and of course were handed wipes. That became a joke because they were EVERYWHERE! So now when we see anti bacterial wipes, we crack a joke about keeping our hands sanitary! lol! I'm glad they are good about that....constantly cleaning the ship and making sure we were safe.

I loooooooooove that Strawberry soup! I got mad at DH because I wanted to eat it with my fruit/dessert. Well, I got up to go get some fruit and the plates were GONE! He thought I had fininshed eating everything so he told the guy to take my plate! lol! I had to go back and get more strawberry soup which meant I had to ask if I could cut in line because the soup was in the middle of the food line! Ugh boys!

They told us at check in that our room would be ready at 1:30 p.m. so around that time, we decided to try and see if we could even find our room! lol!

I looked through the Navigator and saw that they had a tour of the ship meeting somewhere around 2:30 p.m. so we decided to try and find it!

I didn't realize there were 3 stairwells I thought there were only 2! Whoops! So we ran all over the ship looking for our tour group. We asked a CM but they had no idea what we were talking about. Eventually we found them in the forward stairwell! Haha!

My husband and I stayed in the same category on our first Wonder cruise. We booked the same on our second and were then surprised by an upgraded to Cat 9 w/ window which was grand!

We don't drink either and the non alcoholic mixes are quiet good actually!

Thank you!!! I'm glad you like them! I have a Nikon D40X and it takes FABULOUS pictures! It's on the Auto setting ALL the time...I don't do anything fancy with it! Love it! Yes, Christian was our cruise director.

We were given the 2nd seating at dinner....8:15 p.m. so that meant that we had to see the first showtime of Adventures Away in the Walt Disney Theatre.

After the show, we had a little time to kill before Dinner so we went by Shutters to see if our picture was ready. It was and we thought it was cute but we waited to purchase it. I wanted to see if we liked more during the week and we could buy one of their other packages.

We had the BEST WAITERS EVER! We still compare waiters at random restaurants to our waiters on board the Disney Magic. There is NO comparison! Dennis and Colin were amazing! They have both been on board the Magic since its maiden voyage! Pretty neat!

Not only did we have great waiters, we also had fabulous table mates! They were young, no kids, celebrating their 1st Anniversary (we were celebrating our 2nd Anniversary) and we got along so well! I feel like I've made life long friends from just that one week!

Match your Mate was freakin hilarious!!!! I don't have any pictures of it but they picked the couple who had been married the shortest amout of time (ours was 1 week); the couple who had been married the longest (our was 46 years); and the craziest couple in the entire room. They had been married 8 years and they were so funny! They ended up winning! That old couple though cracked me up!!!! They were always dancing and having a good old time! That night before dinner, they were line dancing in the Promenade Lounge and it was so cute! Anyway, I loved Match your Mate so I definitely recommend seeing it!

Sunday, April 19, 2009 - Key West Day!

Before we went to sleep, I ordered room service for the following morning! We got 2 croissants and some fruit and juice. I was so excited because I've never done room service before!!! haha! I ordered it for 8:30 a.m. Just so we'd have time to get ready for our day in Key West!

Stupid me didn't realize how tipping worked! I ended up keeping these instead of giving them to our room keeper. Oh well.

Yummy food! After we ate, we fell back asleep for a few mintues and then got up to get ready!

On our way to breakfast! We tried to do Lumierre's that morning but realized that we'd have to sit and order off the menu and it would take a while. Well, by that time, it was already 9:30 a.m. and we had to meet our excursion group at 10:15 a.m. so we skipped Lumierre's and went to Parrot Key buffet instead!

Our group met in the Promenade Lounge. Not only did we have those who were doing the walking GPS tour of Key West but we also had the car rental group with us too.

So after making our way onto Key West, we met up with a man who gave us all a GPS unit and helped us set it up.

We started off here and pretty much walked around the island with the GPS telling us little historic facts about each stop. We could do it on our own at our own pace which was nice!

After about 2 hours, the tour was finished. We decided to bring the GPS unit back and then take a walk on the other side of Key West to get to the Southernmost point!

We followed the signs to the Southernmost Point. I was quite scared during this mile and a half walk. We really went through the slums of Key West!

There was quite a line to take a picture in front of this barrell so we got in line and I asked the nice people behind us if they would take a picture of us together. They did and I offered to take a picture of them together! So we kind of traded. lol!

How do you get your meal assignment (you said you had the 8:15 seating)? Do they ask for preferences or is it random such that everyone eats that late at least once? I don't think our kids would last that long to eat dinner!

When we signed up for the cruise, we were asked which rotation we would prefer. Because we were late in registering (December for an April cruise), they pretty much had nothing left for 1st rotation and that's why we got 2nd. However, if you have younger kids, they try to put you in the 1st rotation. I've also seen when the cruise gets closer, they switch you to what you preferred (not sure why that happens)........or when you arrive on the ship, you can go to a desk that is set up in one of the rooms and ask if you can change rotations then. They really do try to accommodate you!

Thanks! I wasn't a fan of PC too much but that's ok we had a good time! You can always ask for something else if you dont' like what is on the menu. All of the kitchens connect anyway! Lol! Like one night, I wanted a cookie and some ice cream for dessert and that's what Dennis got me! No problem! So it's really easy to ask for something different. They like to accommodate you!

I really can't remember what roads in Key west we took. We just followed the signs. Sorry I can't help you there! YAY only 47 days!!!! :banana:

Key West Day continued...

So you walk in and they give you each a number. The game is played very similar to Who wants to be a millionaire except whoever gets in the "hot seat" is whoever's number they call!

After a few rounds, it was time to go. However, they had one more set of prizes to give away and since they didn't have time for another game, they were just going to call a random number and whoever's number they called would win! All throughout the night, every kid or adult who was called up was from Michigan. It was so funny. The host said he was going to quit asking because he assumed everyone in the room was from Michigan!

Anyway, they call random number after random number. A lot of people had left for dinner. When finally, they called number THIRTY NINE!! Aaah I won!

I also won a DCL Mickey Mouse paper clip thing..I'll have to take a picture of it! I was so excited! After I got up front, he asked me what my name was and I said, "KAREN and I'm NOT from Michigan!!" :) When I said Louisiana, some people in the room cheered! :banana:

Dinner that night was in Lumiere's. Nothing special...but the food was good!

Thank you so much! In the lobby, they have all of these backdrops set up and certain times that photos are being taken. You just get in line during those times and there's a shutters photographer there to take your picture! It's all in the navigator too so you can see when pictures are going to be taken. Those kind of pictures are usually taken around dinner time.

Thank you! YAY for 6 weeks! It'll fly by! You're right it didn't dock until noon. We were eating brunch. If I called it breakfast, that's what I meant (brunch)! Whoops!

This is the day the "sickness" started. I wasn't feeling so hott when I woke up. I thought, great...now I have that crazy sea disease or something or maybe I ate something funny?? I dunno...anyway, what did I do? I popped some Pepto and went out to the jogging track! Haha!

Palo looks scrumptious as always, gotta get in line as soon as we board to try and grab a brunch, could only get dinner at 75 days out.

You both look so nice dressed up for formal night, but I gotta tell you, seeing you and Jason dressed down a bit for cruise casual dinners did my heart good. I have two teens who are not at all into putting on the ritz at all in the dressing department and I was a bit worried they wouldn't fit in. Jeans are so "in" these days it's hard to tell anyone not to wear them, heck I even have dress up jeans and I'm on the slippery slope to 50! anyway, thanks for all the pics! My boys also look more dressed up in their plaid shorts then most anything else, another shout out to Jason for rockin' the look there. HA! and I just realized, my DS17? Will be wearing a black dress shirt for formal night! No tie for him though, he would rather die I'm certain!

Great reporting, hope you turn the corner and feel better quickly! did you try any meclazine(Bonine) or dramamine? wondering if it helped.

This is an outstanding trip report- we are going Nov 28th.The pix are awesome.

I have one question so far- in Key West we thought of taking the trolley on our own to see the sights but it looks like walking the area in not a big deal.How long would you say it took to cover the island? We are a group of 7, my parents are in their 60s.We would love to see all that you had in your pix.

We did the same thing...I just forgot to say that! We added Palo Brunch on the day we boarded the ship and it worked out perfectly!!! Good luck!

You definately don't have to "dress up" for dinner every night! It's great how casual everything is.

Unfortunately, in the medicine route, I had EVERYTHING you could imagine as far as seasickness/dizzyness/nausea goes! I had some scopalamine as a prescription to use a few days before and once on the ship, I had pepto bismol, dramamine, meclazine...the list goes on! NOTHING helped! lol! Oh well...

Thank you! I got that shirt at the Disney Store a few years ago! I love it!! I definitely had aloe! I also had a cream that we give to our Radiation patients meant for radiation burns and that helped the sunburn a LOT! Thank you so much! The food at Palo is awesome!! :thumbsup2

Thank you! I'm glad you like the pictures! :0) It took us most of the day to get around. The GPS tour took about an hour and a half. Then walking everywhere, shopping, etc took another good bit of time. We had eaten a brunch of sorts that morning but by the time we got back to the ship, we were hungry!!! Good luck!

Hahahaha that's too funny! We definitely felt like it all dressed up and posing for the pictures!!! You need to at least walk the jogging track once...it's really neat what they have in there! Every 7 day cruise has a Formal night and a Semi formal night. You don't have to attend if you don't want to. There is alternative dining for those who would wish to not participate or you could just hang out in your room and order room service! :thumbsup2

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 - Grand Cayman Day!

Tuesday morning, I was startled awake by a noise outside. When I looked at my clock, it said 11:00 and I looked at the TV and the sun was up. I FREAKED OUT! We were supposed to meet our tour group at 8:45 a.m.! So in my sleepy delirium, I FRANTICALLY called the front desk to tell them what happened and see if we could switch our time around for the snorkeling tour. I could NOT believe I had let us oversleep! We didn't hear the wake up call or anything and it was 11 a.m.! I NEVER sleep that late. So the lady at the Guest Service desk starts laughing at me and tells me that it's only 7:15 a.m. Apparently the batteries on my clock had stopped. I felt like such a fool. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We got up anyway since my adrenaline was going after all of that and got ready to eat breakfast in Parrot Key.

We saw a Pirate Ship sail by as we were on the boat. They started shooting cannons at us! :rotfl2: Our table mates were on that boat and they said it was kind of cheesy...more for little kids than grownups.

The guys on board were great. The cost of the tour also included snorkeling gear which was nice.

First stop was the reef. It was really pretty here even though my pictures don't show it. The water was just too blue!

Sting ray!

They let us snorkel for about 45 mintues, then it was time to get back on the boat and head for the shipwreck. When I got out of the water, I was sick. It's because I had been floating on top of rocking water and it didn't help with the sea sickness thing. I sat down though and after a few minutes, it passed.

They told us the story of the shipwreck on the way there. I was under the impression it was a pirate ship wreck but I was wrong. Apparently, this ship carrying rice was trying to outrun a storm so and it docked in Grand Cayman but the wind and water slammed it into the reef so water got inside of the ship. After the storm passed, the ship was full of water. A few hours later, the rice had swollen up so much that the ship pretty much exploded from pressure. Over time, instead of taking the ship apart and moving pieces away, the government decided to just blow it up but they put 10x more dynamite in it than was ordered. So now the pieces remain under the sea as a home for fishes! They have the submarine tours that go over this site as well!

Jason has been BEGGING me for a pair of Oakleys for you don't even know how long! Well through this entire trip, I was spending a little money here and there on shirts and stuff but Jason had hardly spent any money so he could use it all on a pair of Duty Free Oakleys. lol! Whatever...

Then we went back to the ship to take showers and stuff. All in all, the tour lasted about 2 hours and after shopping, it was still early afternoon.

Surprise surprise, I was actually feeling GOOD after snorkeling and I was HUNGRY! Boy was that a welcoming feeling! So as I was getting ready, I sent Jason for hamburgers! :rotfl2:

The Fish Extenders.......it confused me at first too. Whatever date you book for a cruise will have a thread here on the DIS under the DCL section. Basically they ask "Who wants to join the FE group?" and if so, then you say yes! They'll put you on a list. You find your own/make your own FE. Mine came off of Ebay. Not what I wanted but it had to do. About 2 weeks before your cruise, you are assigned your cabin number. Someone in your FE group will then put a list together of everyone who is participating along with their cabin number that way you know what rooms to go to. Other groups do FE too not just DIS people so you need to know what rooms are in your group. You pick a time to deliver your gifts and there you go! I just did mine on one day. Some do it on multiple days. I chose to just put all of my stuff together in a bag and go for it! :0) Hope that makes sense!

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 - Cozumel Day!

We woke up Wednesday morning and decided to try something different for breakfast so we went to Topsiders! I still wasn't feeling well at ALL! I was very nauseated and just wanted to stay in bed. I think the adrenaline of the Dolphin Swim got me going, though! I had looked forward to this since I booked it!

We had 11 a.m. reservations at Chankanaab National Park to do the Royal Dolphin Swim. After much hesitation, I booked this myself cause I really really wanted to do the Royal Swim and Disney didn't offer that through their bookings. With the purchase of the Royal Swim, we also got access into the park for the day! yay!

Jenny and Sean (coconutsunshine) passed us on our way out. They were just gonna go to Paradise Beach but decided instead to go to Chankanaab. They took a picture of us in front of the ship, too!

We had to walk through this open air mall (we walked into the mall from the 2nd floor) to get to the taxi area. There were people like this all over the place!

It was $10 for a taxi to the park. It was a rather scary taxi ride, I do have to say. But then again, I have nothing to compare it to cause I've never been in a taxi before. lol!

We made it in! It was super easy! We just walked up, told the guy who we were, he gave us a wrist band and viola! Once inside, we found the Dolphin Encounter desk and signed in.

This is the area that the Dolphin Encounter took place. You actually swam with them in the ocean. Before the swim, they give you a locker to put all your stuff in, then they take you to a room to watch a video about dolphins. Really neat and cute! After that, you get life vests to wear in the water, then the fun begins! There is someone there to video and photograph your encounter.

The water was SOOOOOOOOO COLD!!!!!

This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I'd do it again in a heartbeat! I absolutely loved it. I've wanted to do this for a long time now, though....

I think for all the photos and the video, it was like $89 or something like that...I can't remember. I bought it because I wasn't sure when I'd ever do this again and I wanted to have the memories of it!

After the swim was finished, we turned in all our gear and walked around to explore a little. Now I felt "ok" while in the water but after we got out...ugh. I wanted to barf. Sorry but I really did. It's ok though I held it in as best as I could!

By that point, I had to sit. Not only was I nauseated but my stomach was hard and I felt like I had something kicking me inside there! lol! I didn't eat anything crazy so I'm not sure what was going on with me! But I almost felt like I had to walk bent over to get to where I needed to go because of the pain.

So we sat for a while and listened to the ocean. It was very peaceful.

Overall, we weren't impressed by the park. We were both a little bored with it. It was nice and pretty and set up very well but we didn't' swim, we didn't snorkel, so we felt like we really had nothing to do. I enjoy the beach but to just lay there all day long...that's not me (or him). So we decided to change clothes and leave!

I love that ketchup, if I had known that they did that, I would have asked for ketchup too, just to see that, it is so cute!!!!:goodvibes Your dolphin swim photos are amazing, I love dolphins and was lucky enough to swim with them in Key Largo, my brother and I did it. It was wild for me, I have a pacemaker and because of the way dolphins hear, they could actually hear my pacemaker and were very interested in me, so they kept getting close to me and trying to figure out what it was, it kidn of took away a little from the experience but it was still fun. But your pictures from your experience are wonderful!!!! I sure hope you got to feeling better soon, being on vacation and not feeling well is no fun. So you are heading back to WDW in Sept.??? Awesome, not sure when I will get to travel again but will be excited I am sure. You are staying at the Wildnerness Lodge, I hear it is beautfiul. Are you going to write a trip report?? I did have scopalamine (that's the stuff in the ear patch) and I started using it before but nothing was working! Ugh. I get motion sick too....:0( I did finally find something that works...those sea bands to put around your wrist with pressure points...they are a God send!!!!! Thanks for following along!

It was for my birthday! Thank you so much!! You are NOT the only one that cried. I definitely cried too!!!!!! I was so happy when she found him again. Don't EVEN get me started on UP. I cried so much during UP from beginning to end. I was either laughing or crying. But I hate to see little old lonely people. Working in my field, I see that a LOT and it always breaks my heart!!! I know it's just a cartoon but it still got to me! :rolleyes:

Don't know about Disneyland again....he wants to go back to Cali next year. I'm trying to talk him into September so I can run the DL half. lol! I'm running the Disney World half marathon in January then if I run the DL half in September, I'll get a Coast to Coast medal also!!! We wouldn't just go to DL though...we'd stop there first then go to San Diego!! :goodvibes

Seriously, I had NO IDEA this stuff was sold all over the world! We even saw it in the Twilight movie! I really didn't know! Their factory is like and hour and a half from my house. We used to go there for field trips and stuff! Strange...anyway, good ol Louisiana Tabasco was in Mexico! lol!

After we got cleaned up, we went to the Walt Disney Theatre to see the premier of Earth. It was earth day that day, too. I didn't like the movie at all. It depressed me. As we were watching the movie, we could feel the boat moving out of port and it was SO ROCKY! Uh oh...

Of course the deck was PACKED with people by that point cause we were so late! We stood up against the outside rail with me trying to keep my eyes forward and not look down into the water....the motion of the water was awful. I am so sorry you were sick :( We are cruising West Car in Sept and I am concerned about the motion and more so after reading several TR's :rolleyes:. It has been a long time since we cruised - 12 years - I was fine then but I did take meds. It sounds like you were so prepared with meds too...so sorry. Maybe I should buy some sea bands, just in case? Did you get them on the boat? Have you cruised before?

I agree about UP, I was either crying or laughing, it is one of Pixar's best films, I loved it!!!! Great update!!! I am amazed at how blue that water is myself, I don't think I have ever seen water that blue in my life. That would be awesome if you could run at both of those and get that medal, I think that would be so cool. :thumbsup2 I will be cheering you on. I so want to go to Disneyland again, but it doesn't look good in the near future, but can't wait to read all your trip reports. They are awesome. Thursday, April 23, 2009 - 2nd At Sea Day

I went to bed the night before feeling awful. I remember waking up Thursday morning feeling a little better and I thought YAY but the moment I stood up, it all hit me like a TON of bricks. This was the worst I had felt yet. It was such an awful feeling!

We had a Character Breakfast that morning and characters are one of my favorite things about Disney so I didn't want to be a stick in the mud and miss it! We got up, got dressed, and headed over to Parrot Cay for our Mickey and Friends Breakfast. What an awful walk. We had to walk so slow and I had to hold onto Jason. You can tell in the pictures that I don't feel good...

Haha our waiter made that hat for my head out of a napkin. I almost got up after chip and dale to go back to the room but I wanted to wait for Minnie. I knew that I felt SOOOOOOOO bad that I was about to go pay a trunkload of money to see the ship nurse/doctor. Now come on...you know it's really bad when I'm willing to go to the doctor! Nurses make the worst patients! :)

Anyway, I stuck it out and waited for Minnie. Just the smell of food turned my stomach. I got out of there as fast as I could!

Jason walked with me over to the First Aid area where I saw a sign posted on the wall. They had free Meclizine (which helps with dizziness) and the paper said if that didn't help, they could give you a shot to help with your nausea. OK so I knew I wasn't dizzy but I figured that pill was just meant to make you sleep. I also knew that the shot they were going to give is called Phenergan which really doesn't help with nausea, that too just knocks you out and puts you to sleep. I didn't want to just sleep, I wanted to feel better. So I took some pills back to the room and this was me for most of the day..................

What a party pooper!

We also called for Evian bottled water from room service because I thought maybe the purified sea water was one of the things making me feel bad.

6 bottles of Evian water = $10!!!! :headache: Neither Jason or I cared by that point we both just wanted me to feel better!!!! I knew I was going to run the Castaway Cay 5K the following day too no matter how I felt so I needed water before the race!!!! lol What a trooper! Haha....

Anyway, Jason slept most of the day too which he really enjoyed. We did get up around 1:30 p.m. because I had reserved a Galley tour for us and I didn't' want us to miss out!

Me met in Lumiere's with all of the chefs on the cruise. We were introduced to them and then the main chef took us into the kitchen. It's kind of neat how they all connect to the different restaurants!

It's nice and shiny in there! See that pan of cookies? They gave everyone a cookie and I wanted one soooo bad but the smell was turning my stomach. So, I stood with my back to the cookies the entire time and I tried to stand as still as possible.

That wedding cake was meant for a couple on our cruise which reminded me of the wedding that afternoon. I had all intentions of going to watch (we were all invited) but I knew with how awful I felt, I really didn't care at that point!

And that was it, the Galley tour was over! I have to admit that I didn't hear most of what the guy said but it was neat getting to see it all!

On the way out, we saw the new menus that everyone had been raving about on the DIS!

I suggested after that maybe we should go to the deck and get some fresh air. We walked over to Goofy's and I got some ice cream....only thing I really ate all day. I had to be careful out on deck though because if I looked out and saw the water rushing past us, it just made it worse. Even looking out at the horizon was bad because I could still see the water below me. Ugh horrible.

We ate and then went back to the cabin to sleep. I really really didn't want to miss Disney Dreams that night but I knew I wasn't enjoying myself anymore. No more faking it. This was bad. Jason had run out of Aloe at that point and he was burning pretty bad so I got up with him and walked over to the store out by the Walt Disney Theatre. Inside, I started looking at the pharmaceutical counter. They seriously had all kinds of stuff for sea sickness! Why didn't I think of that before? I already had every medication they were selling.....

.....but then.....

..... like a lightning bolt from the sky.....

....there they were........

....a pair of the ugliest sweat band looking things I had EVER seen.........

You could hear the angel choir singing......."Ooooahhoooohaaoohooo...." :rotfl2:

I bought the stupid bands for $11 bucks, went back to the room, put them on, and VOILA!

I was healed within 5 minutes NO JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

Then I called them my Richard Simmons bands the rest of the cruise! :worship:

I got up with 15 minutes to spare, got ready for Semi-Formal night, and ran over to the Walt Disney Theatre for Disney Dreams! (I don't have any pictures from it...)

I gave him an earful for 'wasting' $11 on some ugly bands that I was NOT going to wear and would probably not work. Low and behold - like you said, 5 minutes later, it was as if I was never sick at all. Every motion that made me ill just disappeared! I HUGGED my DH and told him how greatfull I was of him and his ingenious idea of these (still atrocious) bands.

But just my luck, because I complained that they were $11, I LOST one in the laundry the next night, and for furture reference, one band doesn't work the same. :headache: So I had to ask DH to go spend, yet another $11 for another pair. :rolleyes1

Now every cruise, we are prepared, I get them ahead of time from our local pharmacy (for less than half that price!) and pack a couple 'just in case' bands. :dance3:

I don't travel without my sea bands! I took them off in the middle of a flight once, thinking I was ok, and NOPE! Had to put them right back on. I love that they work without medicating me (and having to deal with potential side effects). Glad to hear you felt better in time for Castaway Cay...can't wait to hear about your final day...

I knew regardless of how bad I felt the days before, I was running the Castaway Cay 5K no matter what!!!! We met out by the dock first thing that morning.

I changed and we got back on the Island as fast as we could. It was as we were walking back out on the dock that I realized we had booked the Castaway Cay Ultimate package and I had scheduled our Sting Ray tour for 10:00 a.m. By that time, it was already 10:30 a.m! I didn't even pay attention at all. So I panicked and we went BACK on the ship to talk to Guest Services. They then sent us to Marges Barges or something like that right off the dock to see what we could do. Well they couldn't help us either so we got on the tram since it was there to take us to the sting ray tour building to change our times. UGH so frustrating!

We finally made it to Ray's Stingray adventure and we got our time changed to 2:30 p.m. That building was WAY the heck across the island oh my gosh we walked so far! lol! So after all of that, it was right at 11:15 a.m. and we stopped at Cookies BBQ to eat lunch!

The strangest feeling to me was the fact that the ground wouldn't stop moving and it wasn't making me sick. Usually, if the ground is moving, I'm so nauseated that I can't even walk. So strange...really wierd feeling!

After the bike ride, we retunred the bikes and just hung out until our stingray time. We definitely didn't have enough time to go all the way to Serenity Bay and back so we found a quiet area and layed there just basking in the wonderfulness of it all.

After we fed, we just kind of swam around for a little while taking pictures and then we were done! It was fun but I don't know that I'd do it again. It really was more geared towards kids...well what do you expect, it's Disney!

your pics show just how HUGE CC really is when walking around...what time was it desserted there? I know couples like us w/ kids (5 & 7) probably want to be closer to the ship end so the trek back is not so bad but it looks like the further you went down the island the more privacy you got. hmmmm will have to see if my family can coax me into moving it along down the island some....

as I mentioned your report has made me reconsider taking sea bands....just in case...w/ both kids prone to motion sickness in the car...I wonder if they have KIDS sea bands???

Castaway Cay looks so amazing, maybe someday I will get to visit there, but my first goal when I am able to travel again and money allows is Disneyland, but maybe someday a Disney Cruise. I love Mount Rustmore and The Flying Dutchman, how cool. When is your trip in Sept.??? Hopefully you will be starting that before I know it. I missed so much, we were on vacation (and not to a Disney destination...wow, what a difference for the parent of a food allergy kid, I will take Disney any day - just so wonderful for that situation)
I can't believe how sick you were, but I am so glad you found Richard Simmons-wear when you needed it!;) I always get car sick, I wonder if they would help me for that??? We once did 2 whale watching cruises in Mexico and on the first I was fine, on the second which was a bit choppier, I was so ill! I can't imagine feeling like that for days...
I am sorry to see your report end - you have given me so much info to think over...

I think I am going to go into serious withdrawal when this report is over, I've loved every minute of it! Those are probably the best viewpoints I"ve ever seen of the whole island, really great pictures. After reading your success with the Seabands, I decided to add them to our arsenal of "just in case" weapons. I picked up a pair today along with Bonine and Seabands ginger gum. Hopefully we won't need them in Oct, but if we do....;) BTW - I got the bands at Walgreens and they were $11.49 so looks like the $$ you paid wasn't that bad..

Can't wait to read more and thanks for the tip about the zip lock for the camera :)

your pics show just how HUGE CC really is when walking around...what time was it desserted there? I know couples like us w/ kids (5 & 7) probably want to be closer to the ship end so the trek back is not so bad but it looks like the further you went down the island the more privacy you got. hmmmm will have to see if my family can coax me into moving it along down the island some....

as I mentioned your report has made me reconsider taking sea bands....just in case...w/ both kids prone to motion sickness in the car...I wonder if they have KIDS sea bands???

Thank you!!! It was REALLY early when it was still kind of desserted! We went along the bike path about 10 a.m. The 5K was right as they let you off the ship so that took about 30-45 minutes then I changed and went straight back out there. It was still early. Those sea bands aren't that big...I'm sure they would work for a kid as well! I'm sure it's no longer 17 days any more for your trip!!!! How exciting!!!

I have quite a few Cinderella shirts, I think one of them's blue. I moved a few months ago, and a lot of my clothes are at my parents house, and I think the rest of my Cinderella shirts are there, otherwise I'd check.

Looks you had an amazing day on Castaway Cay. The weather looked absolutely beautiful, I think i've only ever been once when it has rained or become overcast.

CC day is so bittersweet. Its the best port to stop at but its also the last full day on board. :sad2:

Oh my gosh Karen, I can't believe that your trippie is almost over ???!!!! What am I going to do, I just love your trip reports, they are the very best. Castaway Cay looks so amazing, maybe someday I will get to visit there, but my first goal when I am able to travel again and money allows is Disneyland, but maybe someday a Disney Cruise. I love Mount Rustmore and The Flying Dutchman, how cool. When is your trip in Sept.??? Hopefully you will be starting that before I know it. I missed so much, we were on vacation (and not to a Disney destination...wow, what a difference for the parent of a food allergy kid, I will take Disney any day - just so wonderful for that situation)
I can't believe how sick you were, but I am so glad you found Richard Simmons-wear when you needed it!;) I always get car sick, I wonder if they would help me for that??? We once did 2 whale watching cruises in Mexico and on the first I was fine, on the second which was a bit choppier, I was so ill! I can't imagine feeling like that for days...

I remember him talking about the crew and their hours and how the keep the kitchen clean. It was quick...only 15 or 20 minutes so it's not like it took up a lot of time! Before we knew it, it was time for "Remember the Magic" in the Walt Disney Theatre. Now, we had seen "Disney Dreams" the night before and at the end, it made me cry! It was such a great show! So I figured that was the big hoopla no more great stuff......but I was totally wrong!!!!!

Saturday, April 25, 2009 - Dis-embark Day! :0(

We woke up that morning very sad. I kept reminding myself that we still had a night at AKL but I knew our vacation was over. It was really sad.

I was being silly.....I kept saying "I'm so sad I have to throw my balloon hat away!" :rotfl2:

So we met up with our tablemates for the final time for breakfast. They were not flying out until 6 p.m. so they were trying to kill as much time as possible and stay on board the ship as long as they could. We however had a very limited time frame. We couldn't get into breakfast until 8 a.m. and we had to meet our AKL bus at 8:45 a.m. It's not enough time at all!!! Breakfast was good...I couldn't remember much of what I had though. I didn't know until later that we could have eaten at Topsiders but we did want to tell our people goodbye!

Anyway, we told our favorite table mates goodbye and that we'd stay in touch. We swapped email addresses and have heard from them a little bit since we've been back!

As we got outside, we saw that our bus was just about to pull out! We flagged down the CM working outside the bus and he made the lady driving it stop. Well, she was MAD and got an attitude and got all huffy! Excuse me ma'am but seriously? You can wait just a few minutes!

Anyway, she boarded our luggage and off we go to AKL!!!

We checked in and were told that we got UPGRADED to a pool view! Yay!!!

Our room wasn't ready of course so we walked around and enjoyed the view. By this point, I was starting to feel a little funny again. I finally figured out (like a month ago) what it was. I was nauseated on the ship all week and was trying to drink sprite/ginger ale cause I thought it would help. Well, all of that sugar makes my stomach hurt and I can't have cokes at all now because that's what they do to me. So what I thought would help me was only making it worse! lol! Sooo, I had a Ginger Ale at breakfast that morning and my stomach was starting to bother me. Go figure...I can eat all the ice cream I want and not have any problems. Now how does that make sense? lol!

I definitely had insurance on it but what good was that going to do for me now? The flash on it broke when we were in California (DL) and now, the lens broke! I took that time to check into our flight for the following day and we headed back to the hotel to see if our room was ready. I wanted to lay down since I wasn't feeling so great.

We went back to the hotel with our goodies and I took a long nap hoping I'd feel better. Well, I did when I woke up but then I sat up and it hit me again like a ton of bricks. I was so upset that I was sick this entire trip.

Anyway...

I FINALLY figured out what was bothering my stomach. Apparently, I have stomach issues (IBS). Ok so I was drinking sprite/ginger ale all week to help my nausea but that was only making me worse. I cannot cannot cannot have any type of carbonated beverage because it's just that my stomach is bloated and PAINFUL. Awful feeling. So NOW I know what not to drink/eat...lol! Hopefully I'll be safe in September.

Anyway, we got up and headed downstairs for Boma....

Our ADR was for 5:30 p.m. They knew we were celebrating our 2nd Anniversary because I saw it noted but no one said a word to us. I was not feeling so great so at that point, I really didn't care.

No mention was ever made of our Anniversary. I didn't realize it until after it was all said and done. Oh well.

Overall we enjoyed Boma but we don't know if we would go back. AKL is gorgeous but it's just so far away from everything.

After we got back to our room, I laid down again for a few more hours. We were going to watch Wishes at 9 p.m. from the Poly beach that night. I woke up again still feeling bad so I thought maybe if I got some medication from the gift shop, I would feel better. Well, all they had was Phazyme and I knew it wasn't gas that was my problem (sorry TMI) but I thought I'd give it a shot. Of course it didn't work either.

By the time we made it to the beach, I was walking bent over from the pain. Jason found two pool chairs and pulled them over to the beach area. Strange thing is I feel ok when I'm sitting or laying down. It's when I'm standing that the pain hits me.

Ok so for all of you Poly Beach Wishes lovers, I was not convinced. It was crowded and noisy for one. For two, we could BARELY hear the music. I thought it was piped in louder than that! Oh well. I'm glad we got to see it at least once!

Even though the lens on my "real" camera was broken, I was able to switch out my for my zoom lens and use it for the fireworks shots! Yay! I still didn't get very many clear ones! Bummer!

After the fireworks, we walked VERY SLOWLY (cause I was still bent over in pain) back through the Poly. When we saw the DCL model by the first floor door, I told Jason the last time I had seen that model (in January of 09) I had made a comment that I'd be on that boat soon and now it's all over!! :0(

Before too long, we were on the plane and on the way home! We made it back ok and got Pixie and came home! We were SO sad this trip was over and so upset I had stayed sick the whole week. I tried to make the best of it despite how I felt. I wish I could go back and rewind and do it all over again minus the sickness. I wouldn't drink ANY sprite or ginger ale I know that for sure! Hehe!

After that, I started planning for our September trip which is in just EIGHT DAAAAAAAAAAAAYS!!!!! :banana:

The end of the cruise looks so sad, it looks like those shows and all really make you cry, well at least I know I would be crying. :goodvibes But it looks like it was a blast. That autographed frame mat you got is very cool, how awesome of them to do that!!!! All the food looks amazing on the cruise but I have to say, that one dessert, it looks kind of like a neoplotian something or other, looks way yummy. I had no idea you were staying at AKL then, how cool. I hope to be able to stay there someday, I am such a huge animal person that I think it would just be so cool. It looks beautiful. Sorry to hear that they forgot your Anniversary at dinner, that is not good. At least you were able to get the card, that was nice. Hey, just a heads up about those bands, I went searching for them and what I found kinda suprised me. I looked in two local pharmacys (RiteAid and Walgreens if anyone cares) and WalMart. Every single place the cheapest pair I could find was $8! and most were $10-$15 ??!!! I decided to wait and I will get them on the ship if we end up needing them.

My DH is exactly like that with soda/carbonation and ice cream? calms his belly so I guess you are not alone. I on the other hand need soda in the morning to calm my queasy stomach and before bed to settle it to lay down and ice cream?, makes me ill, crazy!

We adore AKL and Boma is my DH favorite restaurant on property. We are not keen on zebra cakes though, they just look cool!

Make sure you post on this thread so we can find your September Trippie when you get back! have a fabulous time!

For the autographed frame mat, I bought it ahead of time and had it with me for the cruise. I turned it into guest services with a marker and they took care of the rest! I have no clue why they said that! We wore jeans almost every night...Jason did for sure! Some nights, I had a summer dress on but Jason always wore Jeans except on Formal night and Semi formal night. Seriously, you don't even pay attention to what other people are wearing.....or I really didn't at least! I think you'll be fine with the jeans! Are you running the half in Jan at WDW!!! I am running my first half then and then taking a 4 day Wonder cruise!! Hey I am not getting on the boat without a medal!! Its my incentive since I have never run for anything in my life!!!


We are staying for 3 nights in Dec at WL for a quick anniversary trip! I have to see the lights in WDW at Christmas!!

I suggested after that maybe we should go to the deck and get some fresh air. We walked over to Goofy's and I got some ice cream....only thing I really ate all day. I had to be careful out on deck though because if I looked out and saw the water rushing past us, it just made it worse. Even looking out at the horizon was bad because I could still see the water below me. Ugh horrible.

We ate and then went back to the cabin to sleep. I really really didn't want to miss Disney Dreams that night but I knew I wasn't enjoying myself anymore. No more faking it. This was bad. Jason had run out of Aloe at that point and he was burning pretty bad so I got up with him and walked over to the store out by the Walt Disney Theatre. Inside, I started looking at the pharmaceutical counter. They seriously had all kinds of stuff for sea sickness! Why didn't I think of that before? I already had every medication they were selling.....

.....but then.....

..... like a lightning bolt from the sky.....

....there they were........

....a pair of the ugliest sweat band looking things I had EVER seen.........

You could hear the angel choir singing......."Ooooahhoooohaaoohooo...." :rotfl2:

I bought the stupid bands for $11 bucks, went back to the room, put them on, and VOILA!

I was healed within 5 minutes NO JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

Then I called them my Richard Simmons bands the rest of the cruise! :worship:

I got up with 15 minutes to spare, got ready for Semi-Formal night, and ran over to the Walt Disney Theatre for Disney Dreams! (I don't have any pictures from it...)

My wife, granddaughter and I have been following your trip report. It has been a road down memory lane for us. Keep up the great job on your report. We love seeing all of your pictures.
We went on a 7 day Eastern Disney cruise in 2007. In your first photo of your anniversary at Lumiere's with the other servers standing in back of you and clapping. The server directly behind you was our head server in 2007. His name is Rexon. He has to be one of Disney's best on board the Magic. We had the best time on this cruise and Rexon took excellent care of us during the meals. It was great seeing him again, and knowing he is doing well. We are taking the 7 day Western Caribbean Cruise on the Magic next year in Oct. We are hoping Rexon will be still there so we can go up to him to say hi. Are you running the half in Jan at WDW!!! I am running my first half then and then taking a 4 day Wonder cruise!! Hey I am not getting on the boat without a medal!! Its my incentive since I have never run for anything in my life!!!


We are staying for 3 nights in Dec at WL for a quick anniversary trip! I have to see the lights in WDW at Christmas!!

I am so jealous you get to go in 8 DAYS!!

Wow that was one mega update!!!!!!

When do you go to WDW? We arrive on the 12th and are there till the 19th when we do our Western Cruise.

We go on the 13th and leave on the 20th so it looks as if we'll be there at the same time! Have fun on the Magic!!!!

My wife, granddaughter and I have been following your trip report. It has been a road down memory lane for us. Keep up the great job on your report. We love seeing all of your pictures.
We went on a 7 day Eastern Disney cruise in 2007. In your first photo of your anniversary at Lumiere's with the other servers standing in back of you and clapping. The server directly behind you was our head server in 2007. His name is Rexon. He has to be one of Disney's best on board the Magic. We had the best time on this cruise and Rexon took excellent care of us during the meals. It was great seeing him again, and knowing he is doing well. We are taking the 7 day Western Caribbean Cruise on the Magic next year in Oct. We are hoping Rexon will be still there so we can go up to him to say hi. I know he won't remember us, so I'm taking a picture I took of him and our granddaughter together at Parrot Cay.

I am so sad that this is over, it was another great report from you! Sorry about your camera and that you felt so ill for the majority of the trip. I actually have IBS too and its crazy what triggers your symptoms....people always freak out when I tell them that I don't like chocolate, but I really don't because I know how I am going to feel afterwards! Well, at least you figured it out! By the way, I also didn't care for the zebra dome. Of course it is chocolate...
PLEASE tell us that you are doing a TR for your trip in a few days:lovestruc! (I can't believe you are leaving so soon!!!:banana:) I really want to see/hear about WL! I am seriously going to try to do one for our DL trip - I was going to do one for our Dec WDW trip but my MIL made it such a miserable trip that I decided against it. I again was all set to do a TR for our May trip (finally one without MIL and SIL) but then we were there in the midst of the monsoon and we just didn't take many pics and it ended up being a very trying trip so again I didn't feel like it!
We have been discussing a Land/Sea in June... all of your insights have been so helpful!

We LOVE AKL - we stayed there a couple of years ago and it's just sooo beautiful, we loved it...except the transportation. Ugh, that was rough, it's so far away from everything. The photos of AKL's bathroom skeeved me though, that is nasty! I know it happens and it's at all resorts/hotels, but still - it's not pleasant to actually experience it. Sorry, I'm sure it didn't help that your stomach was bothering you.

The photo of you by the rails on the ship during the sunset had me giggling because I saw you had on those foxy bands on your wrists :goodvibes, I'm not looking forward to wearing those, but they do work wonders.

Leaving the boat is sooo sad. Our cruise is coming up; even before stepping foot on the boat, I'm worried about it being over TOO soon already.

Have fun at WL (we had our honeymoon there!), can't wait to read that trip report! Have fun - hopefully, you got your awesome camera fixed!!! :hug:

Sorry I haven't started anything yet...

I have a HUGE Oncology test on November 23 and studying for that is consuming most of my time. I will definitely start it after I finish my test. It's really scary...heard it's harder than the test you have to take to become an RN. Once I take it though, I'll be certified in Oncology...hopefully I'll pass!!! :0)

I have a few questions...1st on the snorkling....How did you get in and out of the water. My HD is worried about how we will be getting out of the water and back onto the boat. Is there a ladder? Steps?
