My friend is a travel agent and said that on other cruises the people that pay off their cruise early or book early are usually the first one to be upgraded. She doesn't have any experience with Disney though....Anyone have any good luck by being early-birds?
Just wondering because we are going to pay ours off early anyway because we are using flyer miles frome the credit card to get to Orlando.....Thanks, all you experts! Going in December!!!

I do not know the answer to your question, sorry.
We did pay in full our reservation, well before the final due date.
If offered an upgrade from our categories 4 I would gladly accept it and have a smile from ear to ear.
I’d love for you to be correct.

The benefit to paying off early is only in one of the groups that can book reservations early; you must be paid in full before booking ressies. It makes NO difference in pixie dust upgrades on DCL.
Neither does early booking (although it will get you the best rates if prices increase.) We just had a woman on our cruise report that she booked last month and has been upgraded. I booked 18 months ago and haven't been! Not whining, just fact.
The only other thing I know of is that you cannot transfer a ressie to a TA after it has been PIF.

Paying off early has no bearing at all in getting DCL to upgrade you. The only reason DCL upgrades is to suit their inventory needs on any given cruise.
It does not matter if you booked early or late, paid off early or on time, used points or cash or credit card, with a TA or direct with DCL, etc.
None of that matters.
The only advantage that I see in paying off early is you are allowed to book your excursions and Palo when your cruise is paid off and you are within the window.
Ex: Silver can book excursion and stuff 90 days out
Gold can book excursions and stuff at 105 days out
Platinum can book excursions and stuff at 120 days out
I am Plat and could have booked my excursions at 120 days out but I was not paid in full yet so I could not. I just paid my cruise off about 2 weeks before the due date and then I was able to book my excursions and Palo.
