I was hoping to get Photography DISer's thoughts on this....

Last July I bought the SONY Cyber-Shot (DSCS750) camera at Target. I think it was about $150.00. I love the camera. I recently received info from Sony to extend the service plan.

Do most people buy the extended service plans with their cameras?

Three years = $152.87.

Thoughts? TIA!! :goodvibes

Say what? They want $152.87 for an extended warranty on a $150 camera? That seems, well, insane to me. I'd put the $152.87 in the bank and, if the $150 camera breaks, I'd be a new one with the money. IF they wanted 10% of the cost of the camera for the warranty, I'd consider it. 100%? That's crazy.

Well let me clarify...it is $59.99 a year OR $152.87 for 3 years...savings of $26.98. If I select the 3 years...I can make 3 payments of $50.96! This plan is directly with Sony.

I found the receipt, it was $179.00 (7.2 mega pixels) and on sale for the $150.00!

Do you still think I should bag the plan, Mark? Thanks for your post!

The price to extend a service plan should never be more then 10% maybe 15%on the high side of the purchase price you paid. So they are saying give us 152.00 over 3 years on a camera you paid 150.00 for is crazy. They should be charging alot less. I'd pass on this one.

Thanks Mark and Dave for your posts. :goodvibes

I am NOT going to get the service plan. You both make a very good point about the value of the camera as vs the cost of the plan!

I will just make sure I take real good care of it. ::yes::
