My 9 year old trainiac son and I will be in Disney on Sunday. He has heard about the Carrollwood Pacific room at the Wilderness Lodge that is part of the DVC lounge area (for lack of a better description). He would very much like to visit it and look around. Will we be allowed to do this even though we are not DVC members?

TIA

Sure you will. It is located at the Villas of Wilderness Lodge.

Contact the WL concierge and see if they still have the Disney Train talk. A Cast Member from the MK Train use to give a train talk in the Carrollwood Room one day each week. It's free and gives the very small group of attendees a chance to ask questions.

And if George is doing the talk, it WILL be interesting and fun. He is a great lover of trains.

I very much enjoyed the train room. It's peaceful and quite.

Be sure to check out the 2 cars in the glass case. They are from Walts own personal train from his Carolwood Pacific home in Calif.

I am currently staying at VWL and I can confirm that they still have occasional "train talks". To quote the July recreational activities sheet I received at check in:

"Please join us for a Conversation with a Magic Kingdom Park Steam Train Specialist in the Carolwood Room located at the Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge on July 14 and July 28 at 11:30 a.m."

So evidently it's a little hit or miss. I hope it works out for you. :thumbsup2

The Carolwood Pacific room (formerly the Iron Spike Room) is very near and dear to the VWL lovers hearts! :)

My son is very excited about seeing the trains!

It's a very nice and quiet room. Other than that, there isn't that much to see in the room other than the two model trains in the glass cases. Don't plan on spending any more time than 10-15 minutes.

When did they change the name of this room? I've only ever heard it refered to as the Iron Spike room.

It looks like it was back in 2007. Quoted here:

"Iron Spike Room at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge has been renamed the Carolwood Pacific Room by Michael Broggie, in honor or Walt's love of trains. The room, open to the public, features items and photos relating to Walt Disney's love of trains. There is an actual car from Walt’s Carolwood Pacific Rail Road, which ran through his backyard, on display."

It is one of our favorite places to sit and relax at VWL. :)

Please, go and enjoy, but keep in mind, as "Deb & Bill" stated, there is not much in the way of actual trains to see. There is the glass case two car train display, donated by Walts daughter I beleive, but there isn't really much "kid Level" stuff to see. Lots of pictures on the wall.

It really is a place of peace and quiet, a place to sit and enjoy family, a place to get away from the "hub-bub" that The World can generate.

DW and I love it, and have had a VWL Groupie meet in the room. For adults, it helps you focus on Walts love of Trains. And although Walt loved trains, it was Michael Broggie that made it come true as we see it today at WDW.

Next time you are in The World, sign up for the Steam Train Tour. It is great and offers a wonderful behind the scenes of Walts beloved hobby, and the day to day operation of the Steam Trains around the Magic Kingdom.

Enjoy the World - Feel the Magic! :wizard:
