I can't formulate the right search terms to get the answer I want for this, so I'm sorry since I KNOW this has been asked before. :goodvibes

If I upgrade from the regular dining plan to the deluxe, how do we redeem them for CS? Can I trade my TS in for CS (how many CS would I get for 1 TS--1 or 2?) I think I read last year that it was 1TS=1CS + some sort of merchandise.

Is this something I have to do at the beginning of our trip or can I just do it at the CS during the transaction?

THANK YOU.

subscribing to this thread, because I would like to know also. I thought it was a 1 for 1 swap, but I don't know anything abiut the +merchandise thing you mentioned.

I believe that the deluxe plan is for 3 meals a day (plus snacks and mug) and they can be either TS or CS. I believe it is a 1 for 1 trade.

I think what you are thinking about is the TS to CS trade that is sometimes allowed during Free Dining. They do this because some people can't get in to the sit down restaurants so they allow the "swap" to happen so that people on the regular DDP during free dining can still use the plan.

Sandisw is right; the deluxe plan includes 3 meals per night, which can be used for either TS or CS with no exchanges necessary, as well as 2 snacks per night and a refillable mug.

The TS for a CS plus a snack or merchandise is something that is only done for people on the basic DDP during free dining, for the benefit of guests who book without knowing they need to make ADRs for every TS meal and can't get into anything as a walk-up.

Thanks for the quick responses! I appreciate everyone's answers.

It's hard to decide whether or not to upgrade to the Deluxe (since we have Free Dining!) but I'm starting to think that we'll end up paying OOP more than we'd want if we don't bump up--because we're doing a lot of TS and several 2 credit TS (3 signature dining & CRT).

We always get the mug anyway so at least that's included, too with the DxDP.

THANKS!

Thanks, I thought I missed something

I do have a question, on the deluxe, at a TS meal you are entitled to an app., entree and dessert, is that correct? Is that different from the regular dining plan?

When I was there in 2003, we had basic DP and I am pretty sure that is what we had, but now reading post it doesn't seem that way. I am confused :confused3

If you are planning that many sit downs, especially signature, then I would say that upgrading is a good option. It also lets you plan exactly what your food expenses will be ahead of time, without having to worry about OOP.

Have a great trip!

I went with the DxDP (I am not getting Free Dining, I get there after it ends) because I didn't want to have to worry about OOP for food. My DD5 and my DH can not only eat 2 meals a day (let's just say the entire park will know they are hungry :lmao: ) so last time we did DDP, we ended up paying for one meal a day. Also we are doing CRT this time, so that is 2TS. I am not concerned about maximizing my savings, I just like going knowing that my meals are probably 90% paid.

Have fun!

At one time, the regular DDP included appetizer, entree and dessert and the tip. This changed a couple of years ago. Now, the regular DDP only includes entree and dessert; tip is extra. At the same time that this change happened, the DxDDP was created. DxDDP meals do include the appetizer. Tip is extra on the DxDDP as well. The DxDDP also includes a refillable mug.

Add up how many credits PP all of your planned ADRs add up to. If you come even over 2 per day then upgrade. Use the rest of the credits for a few more ADRs and/or some CS meals to fill in the gaps between TS meals. Use all your extra snack credits on your last day for things like Mickey cookies and Mickey krispy rice treats. Don't forget to save a few credits (won't be hard) to buy food to bring to the airport on your last day.

Not true! We were on the DxDDP last Sept during free dining. We had booked three TS restaurants for almost every day (BIG mistake, by the way:rolleyes1). By about the third day we were sick of TS meals. We canceled a few and did a few CS meals. At every one of them we were given the vouchers for the two snacks. The first time it happened was at the PORS food court, I was really surprised because like you I though only the basic DDP got the swap, plus snack vouchers. I mentioned it to the CM and she said that since the DxDDP can be used for either CS or TS, that they were told to treat them just like we were trading in a TS. We also got the extra snack vouchers when we ate at Tangerine Cafe and Wolfgang Pucks Express. Again we didn't ask, the CM just handed them to us.

Thanks again for all of the responses. That's amazing that you were given the extra snack vouchers with the DxDP.

It seems like SO much food, but at the same time, to get back down to the 9 TS & 9 CS that we'd need to NOT upgrade really changes the way we'd eat down there--and for a little over a week I think we like having the TS rather than the CS... It's a tough decision for me b/c I either upgrade and pay the additional $$$ for everyone or really scale back to make the regular DDP work (since it's free for us). If we didn't upgrade I think I'd cancel things so that we'd minimize the OOP.

I'm just having trouble making the decision...when it's a difference of more than $700 I just feel like I could put that towards another trip and MAKE the free DDP work...

Thoughts????

Yes, but as you said, you traded during FREE DINING. This is typically when they have allowed the extra's since there are some people who can't use all the TS credits. I think that was why you were given the extras. It would be too hard on the CM's at the register's during Free Dining to figure out who gets the vouchers and who does not.

When someone is there on the DxDDP at times other than free dining, they are not given the extra vouchers.

PP was surprised because people with DxDP should not have really expected the vouchers. It is not hard on the CMs to figure who gets vouchers since it says on the KTTW cards Deluxe Dining Plan, which is how CMs at TS figure out which plan you are on.
