OK, I just booked today for free dining & am fairly confused. We are a party of 11 divided as follows:
Me & dh & 2 kids & 1 baby
My sis & her dh & 1 tween & 2 kids & 1 baby
Our rooming arrangement, however, is in three rooms with the families totally intermingled. I asked the guy making our reservation if this would be a DDP nightmare and he said we could tell the front desk to separate our KTTW cards so that the right credits went to the right people & weren't assigned by who was sleeping where... is this true? Can we separate out our DDP according to the correct families even if that kid is officially not listed in our room?
Also, last time we got DDP was in '07. The CS meals were all in a big lump, kids & adults counted the same. I just read (and posted) on another thread that now they are seperated but not really & that I have to keep track of them on a Disboard special punchcard? Does this mean if I make an error at the end of the week & have 5 child's CS and no adult CS the computer will tell the cashier & I'll have made the whole line wait and mad even when I didn't know? Or will the cashier not really know either? Who will know?
I read the entire sticky on DDP and couldn't find definitive answers.
I swear I HATE math and don't want to do a ton on vacation.
Help!

Do you have one confirmation #, or two or three?

We're a Grand Gathering. So we have a number for that. Then we have a three resort confirmation numbers.
Thanks!
I'm pondering calling today & asking a different CM.

I have never heard of the dining credits being divided up any other way than according to who was listed on the reservation for each room.

There's no special punchcard to keep track of the meals. Adult and child CS credits are still lumped together, but you will be responsible for keeping track of how many child vs adult CS credits are remaining :headache:.
I also have never heard of dividing up the DP credits any way other than how the rooms are reserved. I could see that being a nightmare at checkin. What if you make the room reservations according to families, then just have everyone sleep where they want. E.g. Room 1 is you, DH, 2 kids, baby. Room 2 is sis, her tween, and baby. Room 3 is sis's DH and 2 kids. I'm pretty sure you can have extra room keys made that are just that, room keys without DP credits or charging privileges.
ETA: I just now saw the thread discussing the punchcards. It's a good idea. I was thinking you were referring to something that WDW would give you, and no, they leave you on your own to keep track.

I just called & got our rooms arranged so I have my girls & my sister & her dh are split into the 2 rooms. It'll be a little confusing for her, but at least not in a giant jumble. So that helps a bit. Thanks!
As for the CS thing, I guess I'll just have to deal. After pondering it, I do kind of understand why Disney doesn't separate them as it could perhaps be a nightmare for them with some places not having kid CS & the system then deducting an adult CS there, etc. So I can understand why they are lumped. But just the same, I'm going to keep general track, not obsessive. Because if they wanted me to keep obsessive track, then they should do it for me. That's my opinion.
Thanks all! I'm feeling sooooo much better about it now.

From what we've seen here they can't divide the credits like that. Each room will have credits assigned based on who is staying in that room. You have three separate reservations.

Yes, I called WDW today for clarification. If we are all mixed up in our reservations than they will put each individual's DDP credits on their individual KTTW. Since my 7 yr old was not in my room, then her card would be the only place her DDP was. So, then at every place we eat I would have to swipe all four cards & have my whole family stand in line with me. My sister's family would be even worse as they would have to swipe all five cards. I'm not sure if I pointed out the ages in our group but we have 4 great adults and 7 kids: 12, 9, 9, 7, 6, 2, 2. It is imperative that one parent from each family be able to order everyone's meals.
So I put my family of five (one is a baby) in our room & our DDP will now be combined. So day one our total would be 14 adult TS 14 child TS 28 CS 28 snacks. The only thing I'll have to do any math at all on is the CS meal child vs. adult.
My sister will have her dh in one room all by himself and she will have all of her kids in her room. So they will only have to give 2 cards to the people when they order. And her dh will almost always have a kid's card with him so he would always have access to her & the kid's ddp as well as his own. Only she would not have access to his ddp, but who cares? He always gets their CS meals while she organizes the 4 little ones & he should be more than capable of handling his own DDP.
Then we'll all sleep however we want. As the CM said to me, "No one will be tracking who is sleeping in what beds, but we are tracking your food."
Hopefully this is helpful to others in my circumstances. Before this thread & calling WDW again I was certainly a bit lost. Now I feel much more confident in the DDP making our lives better, not harder.
Oh, and a side note, they said we might be able (at the front desk, after check-in) to take the 7 year old's DDP's off her card so they only exist on my card. Then they could change the magnetic strip on her card so we can still get into her room even when my sister isn't around. Otherwise, we'll have to keep all her stuff in our room and she'll just only sleep in their's.
Whew, that took me almost a whole day (& 3 phone calls to Disney) to figure out.
Now... on to figure out WHERE to eat. :lmao::lmao::lmao:
