HappyGrumpy - where and when are you going? (I know it must be on the boards somewhere, sorry!)

Last summer our trip exceeded our expectations - it really was a trip of a lifetime. I hope yours is the same!

You *WILL* love it! I'm sure of it! It will come faster than you realize.

Hey I got a question for you..did you book your air through ABD? I did not and I was just curious if you or anyone else reading this did.

Would like to know your thoughts!

Hey I got a question for you..did you book your air through ABD? I did not and I was just curious if you or anyone else reading this did.

Would like to know your thoughts!I did not *originally* book my air through ABD. After they cancelled my original Canadian Rockies ABD, and then re-booked me on the Alaska ABD, it was easier to just let them re-book my air for the change in destination. That way, I didn't have to deal with out-of-pocket expenses/reimbursement/etc. for the changes, it was all handled by ABD. I worked directly with the air specialist who re-booked it, and told her exactly the flights I wanted, times, etc, so I got exactly what I would have gotten if I'd done it myself, for the same price.

The only downside is that I cannot make any changes to the reservation without going through ABD. Other than that, it was pretty painless. Plus, I get a letter from ABD informing me any time the airlines modify my itinerary (which they have, from time to time. Typical these days!)

Normally, I like to retain control of this sort of thing, partly because I watch the airfares, and like to pounce when I find a good one. You'd have to reach the ABD air specialists before you could book it, so there's a slight risk of missing out.

Gotcha:thumbsup2: I too like to pounce on a good fair and like being able to make changes or just plain have more control of the flying times but in saying that I may next time let them do the whole thing just so I don't have to worry about the little things like faxing them Itinerary's and other odds and ends.

The air I found on Delta had a flight leaving JAC at 6am and I want to enjoy our last breakfast as a team which means making sure my return flight was not before noon.

Delta has one flight leaving at 1PM so it was important to me that I got that.

It sounds like you found and Itinerary and worked with the air specialist to get the flight day and time you wanted. This is all a learning curve!

It sounds like you found and Itinerary and worked with the air specialist to get the flight day and time you wanted. This is all a learning curve! When I did Southwest Splendors, there were very limited choices for flying out of Grand Rapids. So, like you, it was important that I book a particular flight. I couldn't wait too long to see what would happen with the airfare. (As it turns out, the airfare never did go lower than what I spent, so I was glad I booked it when I did).

That said, there is NO WAY that I would have taken your option of a 6am flight. With all the getting ready, and getting to the airport, and going through security, you'd probably have ended up barely going to bed! That's no vacation! I totally prefer your option of taking a later flight & enjoying one last breakfast with the group. As it is, I had to take an 8am flight out of Anchorage, because that was the only option that did not include an overnight layover in the airport! But I'm doing 2 days on my own post-tour, so I will still be able to enjoy breakfast with the group, and then transportation to the Anchorage airport afterwards (where I will pick up my rental car).

Thank You! Got My Target list ready with the last few items that I need to pick up. I will be packed 3 days before the trip!! I always do this so that if I do forget something I will usually remember and then pack it!!

I also have to order our Croc's (before they go out of business)! We are using them for our water shoes when we go rafting.

Very Excited and want to try and do a live trip report so we are looking into that!

Funny you should say that....my DH's backpack also ripped open on the top on our second day...we didn't say anything, just figured it was poor workmanship...and then we noticed another family on our trip with a bag ripped open in exactly the same way...perhaps we should let ABD know that there is a high percentage of faulty bags.
