View Full Version : April 29, 2010 Wonder 3 Day Divine Escape
DVC Mary

Anyone going for a short 3 day divine escape w/ us on the Wonder?
We can change the name. It's all I could come up w/ at the moment.
We're surprising our oldest DS for his b-day. We've cruised 3 times the week of his brother's b-day. I'm a teacher so I love to cruise when school gets out.
You won't see this cruise in my signature b/c I've got to keep this a surprise until February. It's also a surprise for my Mom, who we are dragging on this cruise. I think if she tries it, she might like it. We've only done 7 day Easterns before.
Anyone else want to join the fun?
My family will be:
Me 40
DH 44
Nana 81 (Cancer Survivor battled big time in 2000 & in 2008)
DS 13 (B-day Teenager :scared1:)
DS 9 (aka "Lab Rat" We have to drag him away from the OL.)
Anyone else going?

DH, DD, and I, as of right now, will be on that cruise too! We were talking about what fun thing to do with our tax return this year and my suggestion won! Yay!! This will be DH and I's 2nd cruise and DD (3) 1st cruise. I'm so excited! Its also my birthday cruise. Well my birthday is the day before we set sail but we thought the 3 day would be better for dd's first time. Now to figure out what all there is to do with a 3 year old! lol.

My DSis & I just booked this this morning!! I was trying to convince her, and they had a GREAT rate for the GTY 12...so we went for it!! So excited!! This will be my 2nd cruise, and her first. Interesting tidbit, she won her money for the cruise by being the big winner on Let's Make a Deal!! :cool1:

DH and I just booked this because of the great gty 12 rate. We are going to be in Florida and decided to add a short cruise.
This will be our 5th Disney cruise!

Just wondering if anyone is doing any of the parks before the cruise?
m_kasch
02-28-2010, 02:49 PM
No parks for us...I have an annual pass, but Dsis has not yet seen the light and is too cheap, LOL! We will probably fly in wednesday and stay by the port, then take a shuttle to the port...I've read about good deals to be had on priceline for the country inn & suites by the port. I'm excited though...I leave for Anaheim on thursday for my conference...never been to disneyland before!
Marcy, I noticed you are from I'll, what part?

We're about to change our November ressie to this cruise and save $400! It's me, DH, and our 3 sons ages 10, 6 and 4. It will be my 8th Disney cruise and everyone else's 7th.
See you soon!

Not sure if I want to get there early and see about an upgrade or since I already moved up to a nine - just take my time and get there at noon or so.
I did the upgrade to a 9 for $99. I wonder how much it will be at port to upgrade to a 7. I'm thinking the ship must not be very full since they are calling people and offering upgrades?
m_kasch
03-05-2010, 07:29 PM
We will probably be there when it opens to see about upgrading. We are planning to stay at the country inn and suites they night before. I can't believe its next month!

My wife and I are staying at the Radisson on the 28th as well. We've stayed there before both of our previous Disney cruises, and found it to be convenient and enjoyable. They upgraded us to a suite at no charge last September when we did the 7 day Eastern "Tortola" Disney cruise. Didn't even tell us at check-in. Boy, were we surprised when we opened the door to the "room."

Joanie and I (sssteele) are staying near the port (Radisson) on the 28th. Anybody interested in getting together that evening? We had a Dis cruise dinner at "Fishlips" (a restaurant along the port channel) last September, and it was well attended - about 20-30 folks. I know transportation would be a problem for those of you without vehicles, but perhaps carpooling would work. We could also maybe just meet at the Radisson pool bar or indoor lounge. Do a search for Fishlips and you'll find their website complete with menu. What do you think? If a fairly large group is interested, Joanie and I will take care of making arrangements ahead of time.

Since we seem to be such a small group, FE wouldn't be too difficult to do. We had quite a large group on the last cruise and we all enjoyed :yay: it. I may have some great kids gifts left from that trip. Hmmm...:confused3 wonder where I have stashed them.

We only participated 1 time and one of the women in our group was in charge of the list. I believe we just noted on the thread that we wanted to be included and provided the sex and age of each person in our cabin along with cabin number.
Some folks chose to provide 1 gift per cabin, while others did separate gifts for adults and children or gift per person.
You must be sure to let the "leader" know if your participants change or your cabin # is switched for any reason. And we did have a cutoff date so we had time to prepare our gifts.
Fish extenders were hung when we boarded and gifts started to arrive shortly after. I did go with a few extras, and handed them out to some little ones when we were at breakfast the last day and while picking up our luggage. Parents of the recipients were very happy to have something unexpected pixiedust:for the kids to do on the trip home.

Well we booked a Cat 12 gty and got.....Cat 12:goodvibes but that's OK.
This is the 3rd time we have booked Cat 12, the first time we got connecting Cat 10's, and the second (no kids) we got Cat 9. We have 2 cabins this time, and at least they are side by side. Most of the time we book Cat 11, and they are the same as 12's (right?) so no surprises there. At least we are going, this was a last minute trip for us. I would stay in a closet for $299 per person just to go to Castaway Cay :lovestruc

Welcome Aboard Sam & Joan. We seem to be a very small group on this cruise. Maybe we can catch up with you at the Radisson if you want. I bet the suite was nice. Did you take their shuttle to the port?
We used their shuttle on both previous trips, and was great both times. Sam (DH) recently called to schedule our time for this cruise. I think you just have to call them and tell them what ship you'll be on and they will schedule for you.
Also, do you want to join us on the 28th? Plan to meet MelFl123, and hope others on here will do mini meet with us.

We ended up paying $99.00 to go from the gty 12 to a 9. I hope that if we want to upgrade at the port to a 7 it won't cost to much since we already paid to upgrade to a 9.

got our room assignment cat 12 to cat 9 2630.
SO can someone explain what an FE is?
An FE = Fish Extender or Fish Exchange
People from your DIS group (like ours here) decide they are going to participate. All the participants will get a list of people and cabin numbers. Everyone then leaves small gifts in everyones FE's. The gifts can be small like candy or magnets or larger like photo books. I guess it depends on how many people etc. I've never participated in one before so I'm super excited about ours. If you are interested let me know and I can add you.
The FE is like a wall hanger with pockets. Lots of people make theirs or buy them from Ebay. (I bought ours) They hang on the fish right outside your stateroom. Hope this helps. I'm new to it so this is all just recently learned. ;)

We have been busy getting ready for another trip. Leave home tomorrow for Florida, and board on Friday for 10 :yay: night partial Panama Canal. Will be gone 14 days total, so I know I'll have lots to catch up on when we return. Not to mention all :laundy: I have to do for the turn around. We fly this trip and drive the next.
Any other cruisers interested in the Meet and Greet the night before? Just post here to let me know. I will call FishLips and make a reservation several days ahead, but I'm sure we can always add you if you change your mind. What is a good time for all of you? Not sure when you all arrive, and I know there are smaller children involved.
Getting excited to meet you :grouphug: all.

Hey everyone!! Only 19 days to go!!
I've decided to go to Disney on the 28th. Amy (DSis) can't get the day off, so she won't be joining me, she's still flying in later that night. I got a great deal -- my hotel room for Tuesday night is free with my Starwood points (anyone ever stayed at the Sheraton Safari Suites?), and the rental car was only $20 extra for the extra day.
I'm going to have breakfast at Boma, then head to the MK for a little while, then over to Epcot to see the Flower & Garden Show.
MelFL123, I saw over on the CIS thread that you are staying there -- that's where we are staying too! Are you planning on doing the shuttle and parking your car there? That's what we're doing. It's getting so close now -- I can't wait!! :goodvibes
MelFL123

Have fun at Disney! I wish we could have squeezed an extra day in there.
Yes we are parking there and taking the shuttle over. I'm going to try and the first shuttle over.
I'm super excited as well. I don't know how I'm going to work 2 more weeks:rotfl:

I emailed the manager to see what the process is for the parking/shuttle with a priceline reservation. I'll let you know what we find out! We are hoping to be on the first shuttle over also -- the way I figure, we are paying for that day on the ship, so I want it to start ASAP!!
Let me know what time you all plan on meeting up for dinner -- I was thinking of going over earlier, before picking up my DSis...so I might be around. Not for sure yet, though!! :cool1:

Definitely let me know on the parking! Thanks! I'm not sure on what time for dinner. Joanie was taking care of that and I think she's on her 10 day cruise right now. I think our flight gets in around 3:30 and my husband will be picking us up in Orlando. We will go directly to the hotel after that. I want to get my vacation started as soon as possible. :cool1:
I think I read somewhere that you can make reservations for the shuttle about 5 days out. I'd like to know because I really want the first shuttle. I totally agree about spending as much time on the boat as possible.
MinnieMe1...any word on a room number yet? No hurry if not I just want to make sure everyone has it for the FE.
18 days and counting :thumbsup2

It has been quiet!!
I haven't started packing, but I probably will this weekend. I'm leaving two weeks from yesterday, so I will be driving to work and then picking up my husband from his work so he can drive me right to the airport on Tuesday -- and Monday nights I have community band practice, so I won't have any time to pack then...so I have to get ready!! We also still have to put together the FE stuff and figure out who's bag its going in!!
Only 2 weeks and 1 day!! :goodvibes

Have begun packing things that I don't plan to use before the cruise. My sister called Monday night and wanted to know how many days before we cruise.
I also have to do lesson plans for two days. I sure am glad I have a certified teacher for a sub. She gets to teach while I play.
I am so excited to do this cruise!!!!!

We've traveled the world but never by ship, so we'll be the newbies on the cruise 4/29. Our kids are 7 (boy) and 3 (girl, almost 4). Anyone else with kids near those ages?
We live in Florida and I am a teacher, so we'll be driving down after school on the 28th, probably too late to meet anyone but would love to make connections on the ship. Loving the tips and information presented here - thank you, all you veterans!

Hello Cruisers
Have not settled on a time, but would like to do that by Sunday. I will then call and reserve space for all of us. I am always anxious to get my vacation rolling, but know some of you may not be getting in until a little later. We will be by the pool at the Radisson prior to going over if the weather allows.
Would you all like to try for 6PM? Is that too early or too late? We can always meet and then late arrivals can join us.

Wow!! Today in Colorado Springs we had a snow storm.:sad2: Our boys had a snow day and were home from school so I couldn't do the pre-packing that I wanted to do for our trip. We got at least 7 inches of snow. I thought that the calendar said it was Spring. Oh well in another week I'll be relaxing on Castaway Cay & the snow will be a distant memory. . . . :cool1:

I just got off the phone with a nice young lady named Sarah, and we have our reservation for Wednesday, 04/28/10 at 6PM at FishLips. She will seat us at a table on the 1st floor with a view of the water.
Sam and I will be there a little early and at least one of us will wear a red DVC hat. Just ask for Joanie's table. We'll be watching  for you.

Hi fellow cruisers! My husband and I will be sailing with you all on the Wonder this Thursday. We stay on the boat in Nassau, so I was curious about what movies are currently playing on the Wonder and called earlier today. I thought I'd post in case anyone else wanted to know:
G-Force
Old Dogs
Princess & the Frog
When in Rome
Alice in Wonderland (some 3D showings scheduled)
The Last Song
Oceans (I was so relieved to hear this one! I put off seeing it last week with the hope it would be playing on the Wonder.)
The countdown is on! Happy packing!! :woohoo:

I'm in Orlando -- yay!! I'm staying tonight at the sheraton safari hotel...not the super greatest, but it's nice -- AND it was free with my starwood points!!
My flight was EMPTY, there were only 7 of us!! It was insane. It was so quiet, and the flight attendents gave us all a free drink. AND it left on time (seeing as how it took about 2 minutes to board all of us), and we got in 25 minutes early!! Best flight ever!!
I can't wait to go to Disney tomorrow!! AND I really can't wait for the Cruise...which I guess, technically IS tomorrow!! :cool1::cool1:
