View Full Version : Mold! Is there any hope?

I had a buyer all lined up for my 1996 Class C, and it all fell through when we discovered leakage from the front cabover window has ruined the floor of the cabover (about 1/2 of it). DH, being handy, has gone on a destructo mission and is ripping the floor of the cabover down to... well, whatever's going to be on the bottom;), and who knows about the sides. He's also stripped all the sealant out from the exterior of the window and recaulked it (and lots more).

My primary worry is that I have a mold allergy, and I can't stand to be out there in it with him even as he's ripping it up. Is there ANY hope that we'll ever be able to remove it all to the point that I'll be able to camp in it again? I'd prefer to sell it (the rest of it is in excellent shape), but I don't know what, if any resale value it will have with this huge repair job. I'm just so mad, this had to have happened over the winter when we stored it, and was hidden by the mattress up there...

Sigh.

Spray bleach on the mold. It should kill it.

I've been told that a 1/4 bleach to 3/4 water ratio will work, spray on the mold areas and let it sit.

I was also told to do the bleach spray first, let it dry, hit it again before disturbing it too much. They (commercial mold abatement people that I deal with at work for store renovations) explained that disturbing the affected area without treatment can stir up mold spores and cause them to spread to other areas.

Good luck, I hear ya on this.

Thank you both. I'm just sick over this, because the rest of it is in SUCH good shape. I wiped it down with bleach today, so will let it rest and then do it again. I sure don't want it spreading!

What a bummer. I hope the bleach mixture (and it should) takes care of the mold problem for you! Also, hope DH can take care of the structural damage. Maybe you can get it back on the market soon. :goodvibes
