View Full Version : Attitudes with guests on DDP

Maybe this has been asked before.. sorry if it has.
Occasionally, I hear that guests "notice" that CMs have negative attitudes toward their DDP. Maybe it's just the guest feeling this way, but what is everyone's reaction when they tell their host they are on the plan?
I finally decided to use the DDP for the first time and want to know what to expect. What does everything think about this? Is there something positive we can do when we arrive that will help the CMs out?

It's been a very long time since I've seen any posts at all about negative treatment due to the DDP. Really it seems like the DDP has nothing to do with service, which is a good thing. :goodvibes
So don't worry about doing anything special, go and enjoy your vacation! :thumbsup2

We have always had good service...why would you get worse service...even with the free dining, there's still a tip that needs to be earned. You might occasionally get a server having a bad day, or new to the job...but that has nothing to do with the dining plan.
My granny used to say if you go looking for trouble, you'll find it. I say just be ready for good service & good food...enjoy!

I think those reports pretty much died out when the automatic tip was removed from the DDP. I never experienced it personally, but there was the feeling that servers didn't work as hard for DDP guests because they knew they were getting their tip anyway. Now, though, I can't see any reason a server would treat a DDP guest differently; there is still a tip to be earned.

Just a gentle reminder that all tipping discussion on the Restaurant Board is limited to the Disney Tipping Info Thread found here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2056032
Thanks! :goodvibes

Thanks, I think this is why it came to mind. :) I appreciate everyone's responses!

This has been mentioned time and time again that when you are on the DDP you are treated negative. We have been on the DDP 4 times now, 3 times on the free DDP and the first 2 times tip was included and have never been treated that way. And I never see anybody mention that they were treat that way because of the DDP.

Your granny was a wise woman. DH and I believe that most of the time the way you treat people will be returned to you. If you are friendly to others and treat them with respect, they will treat you well. But it is very difficult to continue being nice to people who do not treat you well.
We have never had a problem with service when we use the DDP.

We've never noticed a difference when using DDP vs. not. We've had great servers both on and off the plan as well as only so-so servers.

From what I have seen, standing in the CS line behind people that clearly don't DIS, most guests are clueless about the DDP. So CMs spend a lot of time clarifying and explaining and taking a lot of negative stuff from guests who misunderstand how it works. So you will be asked if you are on DDP- a lot. That doesn't mean they are treating you differently- that just lets them know what you are entitled to on the plan so they can explain it to you.
I had a lady tell me in the elevator how terrible DDP was because they were leaving that day and they had not used all of their TS credits and they would not let them use them at POP for snacks before checking out. She had talked to the manager and was ticked that they would not give her what she was entitled to. It was getting a little old for me- I can't imagine putting up with people like that every day. :scared1: I think they do a great job NOT treating people differently even though it must be a complete pain.

In fact one time after a guest ordered the Cast Member had to cancel it because the guests didn't know what to or something, however the Cast Member didn't seem angry about it. Although it was frustrating because my family and I were next to order, so we either had to wait in that line or go into another one.

I've used the DDP 3-5 times a year, since they first started it. This included several trips when the tip was included. I've never been treated any different when I've had it for free, when I've purchased it, or when I've been paying OOP. Now there have been a few times I've had bad service, but I think it was just that particular waitor, not anything to do with the DDP.
Like Fakeredhead, I have seen people complaining about not getting what they think they deserve, but in every instance it's been someone who didn't understand the DDP. For example, I saw a lady complaining a couple of years ago at Flame Tree BBQ. She just kept insisting that she knew she got an appetizer and was demanding the CM add some onion rings to her order. She got very irate saying she knew good and well appetizers were included for both CS and TS meals and he was just trying to 'cheat' her.:confused3 I've also heard people try to walk up at places like Le Cellier and demand a table. When told they have to have an ADR the've said, "Oh no, we have the DDP. We can eat anywhere we want.":sad2: Yes, I acutally saw a lady throw a huge fit and finally stalked off yelling she was going to guest services and she'd have the CM's job for refusing to seat her at Le Cellier.

we never used it until last year, when we "got it for free" when we made room reservations the year before.
We did notice that we over ate! and we actually had a bunch of leftover credits when we left.
being the keeper of the books, after the trip, I realized that the money we "saved" on the DDP was spent on additional souvineers!
Like a lot of other posters have stated, we did not see much difference in being treated at any of the dining establishments. The only thing that stood out was each server made sure we knew that the tip was not included. after a few times that became a bit tiresome. But then again, if we were not on the plan, it wouldn't be included.
I remember at one place, DW didn't like the entree's, so decided to have two different appitizers. The waiter told us that it was "not on the plan" so to make it eaiser, I just had him do a room charge for her meal. not a big deal.
The DDP seems to be a bargan, even if you don't get it for free during one of the giveaways!
When I compare it to a trip that we didn't have it, and one where we did, it seems that you come out ahead on the savings.
