It says on the Airtran website that you're allowed a carry on 55 inches in total. Checked baggage is 61 inches. That's only a 6 inch difference.

If 55 inches is right for carry on we probably only need to check 1 bag because of shampoo & other things you're not allowed in the cabin anymore, plus shoes etc.

55 inches for a carry on seems rather large, but I just checked 2 of my bags & both are 50.

i just saw that and measured out one of my bigger bags, 56 inches, but could have been generous in size....where the heck would i put that bag? I cant see it fitting in the overhead compartment?!? Would be great if it did, we will just need to check one bag if thats the deal, could save me $15 in baggage fees which would make the cheap airfare even better!

Ya we have another bag that is def over 55 so that's the one I'll check, but if 55 is right for carry-on (which I'm assuming it is since it's on their website) than we'll only need to shell out $15 for checked baggage. Guess I'll have more room for snacks, etc. in my checked baggage since I can get a lot of clothes in 2 of my carry-ons & I'm not buying snacks down there since it's cheaper to bring granola bars, etc with me. Gotta have snacks for a 3.5 year old.

You have to measure the bag when it is full, since it expands and could go over the limit. I carried on my 21" on the way down, but checked it on the way back since it expanded a little bit with stuff from my conference.
You also have to be able to lift the bag yourself and put it in the overhead.

Travelling with a 2year old for 2 weeks, I could easily fill a bag with pullups, clothes and light things. Would check it on my way home with souvies. When I measured I did it pretty generously...it is always worth a shot.

Just smooshed the bag down as much as I could and it was a little under 54 inches, so as long as I dont overpack it (and for a free bag, I can do that....my son is allowed a diaper bag plus luggage, so theres a little more) I think we will be under the 55...if not, Ill pay the baggage fee, not a huge problem but nice if i dont have to check it!

The size for the carry on is 55 inches when you add the length plus width plus height - Just make sure you think of having to haul the carry on's through the airport - personally I'd rather take and pay for 2 checked bags then haul numerous carry on's through the airport.

Both of ours have wheels so not a big deal, plus I have a stroller to throw them on as well. I always worry they'll lose my bags & feel more comfortable with having my stuff with me. My GF had one of her bags lost on a trip to Vegas. It did eventually turn up but it sucked trying to find it.

Buffalo airport is so small that it's not a big deal to pull it them thru the airport.

Reagarding airtrans carry on policy, can each of us take one roll on suitcase that meets the carry on requirements PLUS ONE BACKPACK EACH without paying the $15 bag fee?

Thanks:goodvibes

I think it's 1 carry on each & a personal item (umbrella, purse, diaper bag, lap top)
