The new Publix at Vineland and International Drive (near Orlando Premium Outlets) is opening June 27, 2002. I think this will be the third closest large grocery store to OKW, after Goodings at Crossroads Center and Winn-Dixie on 535. But I prefer Publix to the other two, so I'll gladly drive the extra few files.

Does anyone know if there are any supermarkets delivering to the Disney resorts yet?

chris1gill-
I checked at Albertson's, Winn-Dixie, Publix, and Goodings and none of them deliver to WDW. :(

Any idea how long it might take to get to the new Publix from OKW?
And how much longer would that be compared to OKW / Goodings?

Thanks (I don't drive when we come over to the US - DH does all of that - but I do navigate ;) )

It won't take much longer at all. Instead of going into the Crossroads Plaza and Goodings, at the intersection of SR535 and Hotel Plaza Blvd. take a right. Drive under the I-4 overpass and take a left on Vineland (1/4-1/2 mile? from the intersection). Pass in front of the Premium Outlets, take a right and you will find the new Publix on the left. Really, not far at all. Depending upon traffic 5-10 minutes beyond Gooding's?

Yep! That's an excellent description.

By the way, don't rely on Mapquest to map the location or to provide driving instructions. For some reason, Mapquest is really confused. Mapquest doesn't know that Vineland now curves around to meet International Drive. Also, Mapquest wants you to circle all the way around Epcot when driving from OKW to Publix, and Mapquest wants you to wind up on the wrong side of I-4!

Here's my estimate: From OKW to Goodings, it's probably about 2 miles and 5 minutes. To the new Publix, it's probably around 4 miles and 10 minute

Though it may be further, it may not be any longer depending on traffic. You can also take a left out of OKW, go to Bonnet creek and take a left. Go to it dead ends at the second light and turn right. Go under 536 and take it east. It's essentially a straight shot to I drive, turn left and it's on the left maybe a quarter of a mile. My guess it'll be faster to get to and far less crowed than Winn Dixie. I suspect it will also be closer and faster from BW/BC as well.

Anyone on this list live in or near Orlando and want to start a business. Here's your opportunity, buying and delivering groceries. This type of service was offered by one of the grocery stores in Aruba at a resort I own there and they recently discontinued it.

We usually go to the Publix by the new Opryland hotel (now called Gaylord). Isn't that closer to OKW????

The one on I drive is definitely closer to OKW than the one at 192 and 535 and the 2 out West 192 towards 27. For BW, I think it depends on how you go. If you go the back way out beside AKL, it's probably closer to the nearer one on West 192 (Orlange Lake?). Don't ask me to tell you how to go this way as I was barely able to get there myself when I was there.

As I said, I suspect it will be faster than than the Winn Dixie due to traffic but I'm sure someone will give it a try soon and report back to us. Partly it depends on what else is going on. If you're planning on going one direction or the other for additional options (DD, outlet center, etc) that will likely make your decision.

I think there will three advantages of the new Publix at International Drive and Vineland Road over the older Publix at International Drive and I-192 (south of the Gaylord Palms Resort (http://www.gaylordpalms.com/):
Slightly closer to all WDW DVC reports (especially to OKW)
Not having to make the nasty, dangerous left turn without a traffic light onto a very busy stretch of Highway 536 (near the Marriott Orlando World Center) when returning to OKW.
New Publix stores are gorgeous, with a huge selection of specialty foods -- and at 54,000 square feet, this new Publix should be a spectacular store.

Routeman Dave, That's also the one that we like. Nobody has any idea it's there & there are never any lines at all!! I might have to try the new one though (if I can find it!)

Routeman Dan, I believe that is the one I am talking about also.

We take the road out by where the Pop Century is being built then take a left instead of going into the WWoS complex. We drive down that road a little ways and take a right at Gaylord hotel and left into the Publix parking lot!

Sorry I don't know the names of the roads, I only go by sight!!
