Anyone know about Disneyanna?

I just read on Mouseplanet that the Disneyanna convention will be Aug 21 - 24 (?). Can anyone tell me what this is, and how it might effect our trip. Will the crowds be worse than usual? We had picked the weekend before school starts because we thought it would be less crowded. I was ready to book today but will wait for some info here. We can take heat but only in a non crowded enviroment. Thanks very much!:D

The Disneyana convention is a convention for collectors of Disney merchandise. Anything from pins, toys, figurines, old records, etc. The convention is usually held at the Contemporary Resort and I believe that in order to attend the convention, you have to buy a special convention package. I have never been to WDW during one of these conventions, but I would GUESS (and it is only a guess) that the collectors are going to be more interested in browsing through the selections of Disney merchandise than being in the parks. But again, that is only a guess.

Disney hosts many conventions throughout the year. I wouldn't let this one deter you from making your reservations. I would just maybe not book the Contemporary as your resort.

I asked this question a while ago, and I believe what I was told was that it would be taking place in Epcot?

I'm sorry I don't remember more. I was just concerned that the dates would fall when I was going, and since it didn't, I didn't pay too much attention. Do a search for Disneyana, and you'll find information about it.

The Disneyana Collectors Convention will be held in Epcot this year from August 22nd to August 25th. The Disney Animation Convention will be going on at the Contemporary Hotel and will start a few days before Disneyana. The main hotels for Disneyana are Yacht & Beach and Port Orleans. This year the public will be able to participate in Disneyana on Saturday and Sunday, Aug 24th and Aug 25. Only admission to Epcot is required. The package for the Event starts on Thursday 8/22, with early registration on 8/21.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am still not sure what to think. We will be staying at the Swan(we have a free weekend there). If the events are at Epcot, my guess is the park will be busier. We have been over Super Soap weekend and noticed that most people were not on the rides, but transportation and the park seemed crowded. I am guessing that it may not effect us to much, except moving around the boardwalk and the boat transportation.:D

I've only been to Disneyana once, but from that experience I can tell you that Conventionears are more involved in Convention activities than in running around the parks. So I wouldn't worry about increased crowds! Go and enjoy! :D

There are approximately 1200 paid convention goers who will be at Epcot from 8/21-25, mainly going to events & not going on rides. However on Sat & Sun, the 24th & 25th, the convention activities are open & free to all Epcot guests. I would expect Epcot will be very crowded those 2 days but again, most of the extra people will be going to events & seminars. I would try to visit Epcot either the 23rd or the 26th if you don't like crowds.
The other parks should be unaffected.
