View Full Version : Appetizer instead of an Entree at TS on the regular DP?

My daughter is a vegetarian and there is usually just one thing for her to select as an entree at the TS locations. We've been to some of the restaurants many times so she has tried that one thing multiple times. For instance, Prime Time, we love going there, but her only choice is a roasted pepper. I would love for her to be able to order something else. I know we could pay OOP but we're going to be on free dining. I also know she could probably order something off the kids menu or that we could do buffets, but my question is.....

Has anyone been able to get a appetizer instead of the entree on the regular dining plan?

It might be permitted to substitute an appetizer for an entree - it will depend on what the individual restaurant will do (we had one report that Yak & Yeti will not permit this but I have not seen anything about Prime Time).

If you order an appetizer as an entree, it most likely will be an appetizer portion only. Try asking the chef for a vegetarian alternative other than the pepper. They could likely do an entree-portion salad with no meat.

Thanks! Portion size is not a problem and thankfully she likes desserts so she'll at least have that to look forward to.

TDC Nala has a great idea about talking to the chef and seeing if they can prepare something else for your dtr. You'd get more value and they can really cater to her needs/likes. They say you should call in advance for this type of thing though. You are paying for a meal for her, she shouldn't have to piece-meal something together. I haven't had the greatest luck w/substitutions on the ddp, it really depends who you talk to at any given time.

You might get more info if you post over on the DISabilities forum. Many with food limitations post there (vegan, vegetarian, kosher, GF, DF, SF, NF, etc...) and they might be better able to answer your question(s).

Best Wishes!

50's also has a really great selection of delicious veggie-friendly sides: root vegetable hash, mashed potatoes, succotash, & lots of other veggie options. If your DD really wants the app instead, then ask the server. I would prob ask if I could get a plate full of "sides" as my meal instead.

My bf is vegetarian and a couple of times on our last trip he preferred one of the appetizers to the entree and they just made him an entree sized portion of it (at California Grill and Coral Reef the servers actually offered to do this when he told them he was veggie) No problem and no extra charge :)

One of the reasons I love the DDP is that my family doesn't typically order straight from the menu due to food allergies. I don't have to worry how the meal is rung into the computer. Usually the server will ring it in as something with the same main protein or ingredient but it really isn't a big deal to me how it's rung in.

Chances are the server and chef will work with your daughter to create a plate that includes several foods that she'll enjoy (maybe a main food with her preference of sides but who knows what they'll come up with. Contact special diets (contact info is in the stickies on the disABILITIES! board) and have them put a note on all of your ADRs that your daughter is a vegetarian. If there's anywhere in particular that you'll be eating multiple times, ask to have a chef contact you. There's a chance the chef will even order in some of her favourite foods. I know the head chef at Pop had ordered in a special order of some amazing veggies for a vegan guest when we were there (he told me when we were chatting about our own special meals for food allergies). He prepared the most amazing ginger veggie sautee with noodles using the specially ordered load of veggies. I ordered again the following night as it was so good.

The folks in Special Diets can also email you lists of what vegetarian foods are available at which QS locations so you can plan ahead as to where your family can easily stop for meals.
