I went to the top of the Sears Tower for the first time this past March, and it was terrifying enough. This would make me insane with terror.

You wouldn't even find me all the way up in the Sears tower, much less on that balcony!

The CN Tower in Toronto has a glass floor that I stood on when i went to Toronto in 1995. I went to Chicago in 1982 and went up into the Sears Tower and watched a beautiful Sunset. I would love to see the glass balcony.

I think the one and only time I had a real panic attack was at the CN tower. I would not go out on that glass floor for ANYTHING!! :scared1::sick:

I can do the CN tower, and even the glass floor. I am nauseous looking at that balcony. I think my fear of heights is linked to feeling secure...it must be since I managed the parasailing...
DH - not a chance... watched the parasailing adventure from a good distance away. I don't think he can do the glass floor either.

I have been in the St. Louis Gateway Arch many times. the tram ride to the top of the Arch is somewhat Cramped. but the view at the top is awesome. the observation room at the top gets packed durring the summer but it seems to handle crowds well because many people. come and go frequently.

When I looked at the first picture of the little girl laying down, it didn't look like there were walls :scared1: I got a weird feeling just looking at those pictures. Not a chance I could do that.

We saw this on the news last night. DH Phillip would do it without hesitation. There is no way I could even get within 4 feet of the vertical/regular windows when I went up in the Sears Tower. I could NOT stand on that clear platform. Period. I could barely watch the reporter doing it on NBC.

I may have to make a new visit to the Sears Tower on my next visit to Chicago to check it out. I haven't been up there in years, because I prefer the view from the Hancock Building better. IMO, It gives you a better overview look of the city.

No way.
I would not step on the glass panel they have in the floor of the CN Tower in Toronto.

I love/hate the glass floor at the CN Tower. Once your on it, it is the coolest. Getting there is 85% of the battle though. I took several Spaniards and a German there one some and they had a blast--walked right onto it. No hesitation.:confused3:confused3

Been up there many times. Very weird when it sways.
Been to Sears Tower and John Hancock when I was little. Are they the same buildings or are they taller now?
I've been in the Stratosphere in Vegas with it's floor to ceiling slanted windows. Scared me to pieces. All it would take is one little ....push.
No way could I walk out on a glass balcony. They have one in Vegas too. :scared1:

I can imagine being up there. That would rock.
But I almost took Lauren (she uses a power wheelchair to get around) to the top of the other big building in Chicago in May...
And I can't imagine taking her up there on that glass balcony... in her 450 pound wheelchair. I bet she would FREAK!
Can you imagine DRIVING on that glass?
Just hop in an ECV and go for a drive? That makes me have to catch my breath just thinking about it.

I too have been in the arch and the swaying is kind of scary.
I did look out the windows in the Stratosphere and was really scared!!! :scared1:
I live here in Chicago and have not been up in the Sears Tower (I refuse to call it by it's new name) in years, but I actually might have to take a trip downtown one day soon and check it out.
The info on the news here said the glass is 1 1/2" inches thick, well actually 3individual pieces of glass that are each a 1/2" thick. This will make it easier to change out if the glass gets scuffed.
They also said it holds 5 tons which is a lot of weight. They said eight people could stand in it at one time. There are 4 of them up there to stand on and on a clear day you can see as far as Wisconsin to the north and Indiana to the east.
Anyone up for a challenge, hey we could have a DIS meet up there. Now that would make for a great pic.

We arrive in Chicago on the 29th of July. I might have to do that. Now getting my husband to agree is a completely different story.

I used to love doing things like visiting the Empire State Building and Twin Towers but not any more. Last year when I visited friends in Chicago, we went to the Sears tower. I spent most of the time hugging the inner wall. NO WAY. DD made fun of me when watching UP in 3-D and I had to look away.

For photographers, the Sear tower appears to welcome cameras on the glass balcony.
Cameras are not permitted on the balcony over the Grand Canyon. There was some ridiculous excuse about fearing that dropped camera could damage the floor.
Perhaps the Sears tower is made of a stronger material, or maybe the gift shop is not so greedy.
